Long cable, sturdy build
Excellent cable. The Passport drive I bought recognized it with no issue and is conveniently longer than the calbe that shipped with the drive. The USB-C provides significantly greater speed in transferring files, a massive time-saver when I have gigabytes of information being backed up regularly.The cable itself is stiff and has a quality feel to it even months after buying and using. Will definately hold up over time. The only issue with the stiffness, though, is that it puts more ‘torque’ on the USB-C connection point. The length of the cable also plays into this as you’re more likely to move it about, finding the right spot for it. However, easily remedied if you know to set it up first, connect it 2nd.After several months I’m as satisfied as the day I first used it.

Two IMPORTANT things to know!With the Dell Precision 7530 Thunderbolt 3 ports, If you are not super careful to insert the Micro B end, in exactly straight, at the instant you insert the Micro B into a HDD, it will “Brick” the computer! All is not lost. After 5 to 60 minutes, the computer recovers with (Hopefully) no damage.Always connect the Micro B end BEFORE connecting the USB-C end to the computer and all is OK.There are a few companies selling bad cables that can literally destroy laptops and phones. Buy certified USB-IF cables or take your chances. See articles online like, “Benson Leung, the Google engineer who moonlights as a tester of dodgy USB Type-C cables, has sadly performed his last act of tech vigilantism—at least for now. When testing a Surjtech 3M USB A-to-C cable, the cable was so bad that it fried his Chromebook Pixel laptop and two USB PD (power delivery) analysers.” from arstechnica .comI have just used these a few times, but they seem well made, but the wire is large OD. Probably good for longevity, but bulky for travelers.

4 Things You Need to Know to Make an Informative Purchase
1. If you are using a USB-C to USB adapter to power and connect external hard drives, but the external hard drive keeps shutting down intermittently, this cord will resolve that issue.2. Seems to be made with decent quality. I have had a lot of AmazonBasics items now and they have all thus far been relatively well built especially for the price and this is no exception.3. The price goes up and down quite frequently for this item. I have seen the single cord go down to $8, and the 5 pack for $21. This is the cord to get if you need this item, but if you’re not in a hurry, keep it in your cart for awhile and you can save yourself 10% or more.4. It’s reliable. I’ve use it every day with a number of different external hard drives in different brands and it works flawlessly with all of them.I would highly recommend this cable.

Big upgrade
I experienced a problem where my Seagate external hard drive would keep disconnecting from my MacBook. I addressed my issue by switching out the original cable with this one. Compared to the original that was included with the hard drive, this cable is of greater quality. When plugged into the USB-C port, the original cable always appeared to be a little bit slack, but this cable fits snugly. I would definitely recommend trying this cable if anyone else is having the same problem.

MacBook Air to Toshiba Canvio Drive
Bought a Toshiba Canvio Advance drive to back up a MacBook Air. I wanted to connect it directly rather than using an adapter, so I bought this cable. It’s worked great. No issues or problems. I can’t comment on sturdiness or durability, since I haven’t had it that long, but it seems to be well made and I have no reason to doubt it will last a long time.

Good cable, good value
I needed a cable that would connect to an SSD enclosure I already had. The enclosure had a miniUSB port. I wanted to connect it to a USB-C port on my computer. I had a miniUSB to standard USB cable, but not one with USB-C. I didn’t have a converter plug and wanted to get the max speed I could. I ordered Amazon’s basic cable and it worked flawlessly. The SSD is up and running at 10 Gpbs.

Does it work? Yes. Is it faster than a USB-A Cable with an adapter? Sadly no.
You read my headline and are like ‘Wait, what?! Tell me more!’ Well, here we go :)I bought this eSATA to USB-C Adapter for I imagine the reason MOST of you bought it for, to connect an external USB HDD to your Mac (or some other machine) via USB-C because you assume that it would be faster than using a pass-through device/adapter to convert USB-A to USB-C. Go ahead and hit that ‘This helped me’ thumbs up if that’s your situation because it probably is.So does this work? Absolutely! I said that in the headline! But the reality is… at least in my testing (direct testing of running Black Magic speed tests BEFORE using the cable, and AFTER using the cable) and frankly the speed when connected with this USB-C / eSATA direct cable were about 5% slower. Sure that’s not much, but that is… 5% slower when I’m doing mass data transfers.Now you might be saying ‘what if I let it cache the data and then do the testing’ yea, that will be faster… but that’s because we’re caching a cache at that point 🙂 Regardless, it DOES work and it works quite well, it’s definitely going to replace one of my cables purely for convenience. It won’t leave you feeling OMG I CAN GET WAY FASTER THROUGHPUT FROM THIS! You won’t. But you’re pretty much going to get the same line speed you got from your USB-A and that’s good enough for me!

Works for my portable screen

Works Great, Color is Nice, Cable is Thick
The cable seems well made, and it has been working really well for weeks now. The color of the cable is very close to the Apple cable that came with my machine, but the materials obviously aren’t as nice. The texture is harder, and the cable is really thick and not very flexible. It also has that ugly “twisting” texture that you can see rotating around the length of the cable, due to the shielding inside. I’m happy with it because it has the connections I need and the color blends into my workspace well, but it’s not the world’s finest cable.

Thicker and more useful than I thought
I bought this because I’m going from an old MacBook pro to a new one. Unfortunately all I had was a usb 3 micro port on my external hard drive, but usb c is the future. The cord length is exactly what I needed, and here’s what’s surprising – many cords are made with a “cheap” feel, and this didn’t have it. It was thick and seems like it’ll last awhile. The other thing I didn’t know is this – some usb 3 and usb c cords do NOT transmit enough power to turn things on. Thankfully, this did. I hope I don’t need another one, but if I do I’ll buy it again.

works great; saves space
really glad I got this for my Western Digital external hard drive to connect to the USB-C ports on my MacBook Air. The cord might be better off being shorter (but who ever said that before?). I think the speeds are better than when I plugged it into the 8-in-1 adaptor that I might have wasted money on and that annoyingly takes up too much room. Best part is that the USB-C plug is small enough so that you can use the other USB-C port on the MacBook Air (2019) at the same time. (don’t get me started on how annoying Apple’s minimalism is getting).

Great quality and speed
I have an external UBS 3.1 hard drive that was running slower than expected. Bought a replacement high speed thick usb 3.1 cord and saw no difference. Figured I’d try going from usb 3.1 to usb C and that was the key. As shown in the pictures, this cable more than doubled the drive read and write speed!

Broke my Seagate External Hard Drive Port
This cable works well, but I thought I should warn others to be careful when disconnecting it from your external hard drive. I have a Seagate HDD and have been using this cable with it for a few months now. Today I tried to unplug this cable from my external HDD, and the entire port for my HDD popped out from inside of the drive. I now have to buy a new hard drive or risk losing all my files. This cable fit my HDD port a little too tightly which caused the port to break.

Great solution for future-proofing old hard drives!
I recently bought at 2018 MacBook Pro and I found myself now in need of dongles/cables in order to get my old peripherals (namely my external hard drive) to work with the USB-C ports on the laptop.This cable is great because it lets me connect the Micro-B port on my external drive to the USB-C port on my MacBook directly, without any USB-A to USB-C dongles. However, I did run a speed test through Blackmagic’s read/write speed utility using this cable and my old USB-A to Micro-B cable and found a slight loss of speed when using the Amazon cable over the USB-A cable included with the hard drive. It’s pretty negligible, especially since I only use my external drive for photo editing, but if you’re into video you may want to consider alternate solutions.

Good, reliable cable to use with various external HDD’s with Micro-B connectors.
Bought this cable to use with my Seagate External Hard Drives and be able to plug in into USB type-C ports. No problems at all, also tested with Seagate Backup Plus Fast 4TB and Seagate Portable 5TB drives – no problems at all when sometimes with other brands they didn’t worked. Probably it was caused by of higher power supply demand then 1TB or 2 TB drives.No problems with this cable and it is Micro-B 3.1 Gen 2 specification.Happy with purchase and recommend this especially for people who like me prefer to swap cable for my external HDD then use any USB Type C to USB-A Male adaptors.I wish Amazon will make them a little bit shorter for example 1 feet (0,3 meter) versions – will occupy less space in travel bag. However this is not the reason to take off any stars.

Replaces a USB-A cable perfectly
I bought this cable to convert an external SSD drive from its original USB-A connection to a USB-C connection. On the drive end the connection is USB-3.1 Micro-B, and that does not change. What I wanted to change is the connection on the computer end.This cable replaced the original cable and everything worked perfectly. It plugged accurately into the external drive. It plugged accurately into PC. Windows immediately recognized the external drive, and I had full access. Just for testing I formatted the drive, copied files to it, and played a video from it (during the copy). Everything was 100% as expected.If you want to upgrade or switch an external device from USB-A to USB-C this might work as well for you as it did for me.

Worked for phone to external SSD drive
My intent was to take a gamble and connect a newer MacBook Pro with USB-C to an Asus external video monitor that takes the Micro-B connection. That didn’t work and I’m not really too surprised, since there’s nothing in the description that says it’ll work for video. The monitor flickered a couple times, but that’s about it. However, I did take the cable and connect my OnePlus (USB-C) to an external Seagate SSD that has the Micro-B port and I was able to copy files to/from each device. A good use of this is to backup photos from the phone directly to the external drive without using a computer as an intermediary. So, although it wasn’t what I purchased it for, I’m glad to have this cable.

A Modern Essential
I have a USB 3.1 external hard drive that I use for some important files. I also recently got a new laptop that only has USB C ports. While I could use some sort of device that lets me connect a typical USB cable to the laptop, why not use one cable that goes straight from the drive to the laptop?It’s light and easy to pack, and it gets the job done without fuss. Plus it saves me a lot of hassle trying to keep up with more devices that I might forget to bring when I need them.

I needed a cable that would transfer data from my MacBook Air to my SSD. I had another cable but it really slowed down the transfer rate. This cable provided a much quicker transfer rate.

A learning experience for me
The three stars is not a reflection on the quality of this product. I can’t speak to that. Although it looks and feels well made. When I ordered a micro USB cable, I had no idea that the 2.0 and 3.0 were actually different sizes with the 3.0 not looking very micro at all. Amazon was very good about replacing this for me.

The cable works. It’s of decent quality and speeds. Unfortunately, the connector that goes into the hard drive comes out with the slightest movement, so you need to be extremely careful during file transfers. Annoying, but not enough to refund. Be aware.

Works perfect for an all USB-C MacBook world!
With most new laptops exclusively shipping with USB-C ports, having to use a dongle to change to USB A, this cable solves that issue when I’m in need to connect older USB A drives. It also enables the USB 3.0 speed which is something I was not getting with my dongle making transfers even slower than it should at USB 2.0 speeds. Price is good, so I highly recommend this cable.
