Perfect for little boys first Lego set!
I got this for my almost 5 year old son’s Easter basket. He loves to play with his older brother’s Legos, but didn’t have any of his own yet. This was a perfect first set as it’s not too many pieces, and he was able to mostly assemble it on his own by looking at the pictures in the directions. I love that it also was not as pricey as bigger Lego sets. The car once put together is fun to drive and can keep kids entertained.

poorly design compared to other kits
The good: Overall its a great looking kit, the price mark is right, and would be a great addition to the collection of Lego kits our family has enjoyed for many years (3 generations).The bad: This one is a weak design. the front and back “bumper” assemblies sit on a “twosie” so if my grandson is acting out with it and pushes a disabled car off the road using its bumper, the whole bumper assembly falls off. A very frustrating thing.Also, the blue hood part doesn’t “snap” into place. It pops off. and the white upper fender parts on side of the blue hood part are actually only held in place on a “onesie”. There’s no strength in this bumper assembly and access to the inside to put the action figure in the “cockpit” requires a disassembly of the top. The whole design is not sturdy. Most kits have strength built in with overlapping or specialty pieces. This one is just not durable enough to withstand normal play. If you use it as just a display, then you will not mind its lack of assembled strength. You definitely can not toss it in the “lego box”, toy box, or drop on the floor – it will not survive even the lightest of abuse. There’s just too many pieces that will randomly fall off for this kit to be fully enjoyed. I’m thinking of using glue to hold it all together or use my lego pieces to reinforce it, but something needs to be re-thought. I can not recall any other kit that this is such a big problem.The instructions had some weak moments as well. The last time I checked a 5 year old can’t multiply but you can explain a 2X, 4X, etc. means twice or double and if he understands that he can assemble most of this with adult supervision. But for a 5 year old to use these instructions without adults nearby to ask what color, or the red outlines, clear pieces of color, the direction of hinging parts, etc. is asking a little much to let him on his own figure it out. I have a almost three year old grandchild and of course this is too complicated for a 3 or 4 but we do it together and have fun. Of course your child is a genius and can put any lego kit together on their own, but MOST kids of this age group (2-5) are still putting everything in their mouth and should be using duplo blocks. Most of these “city” lego kits are put together by adults and if your kid is too young to be left alone with all the small parts to swallow is not the responsibility of Lego. I use similar kits with a duplo city we built and the classic “city” lego kits are more to scale for it. So I can let him role play with it (3yrs) while I watch but I don’t leave him alone with it. Its just too delicate to play with anyway so for my expected use, this kit is a bust.

Bought this for my 4 year old Lego fanatic for Christmas. He’s not played with it yet but it’s one awesome looking police car. He is going to love it no doubt and it was cheaper than most Lego sets of the same size.

Lego lover but not giftable
I bought this as a gift for my police-loving 5-year old. The Lego box was smashed when it arrived in it’s packing envelope. Cannot request a replacement, as only a credit is being offered and the item is now priced higher. So unable to get the same item.. in a giftable condition. I know my son won’t care, but it’s still an unsatisfactory condition to receive an online purchase.

Father and Son activity
I’m always looking for fun things to do with my son, but also things where he may also learn from. These Lego kits are so great to do to together and the step by step instructions make it so easy for a child to follow along step by step, piece by piece and the delight in there eyes when it is complete and conference builder is amazing. Great card, poor quality control for parts
Good:For my 3-year-old’s introduction to legos, he loved it and was able to follow the simple instructions with ease. It was easy for him to assemble and reliable to play with.Bad:Looking at the parts list, there were a number of parts that they gave us an excess number of (like multiple copies of the policeman’s megaphone), and one that was missing a piece (part of the hood). I contacted customer support about this and they will get back to me. If they make this right, I’ll add a star back.

Fun little Lego set
My child loves Lego and has recently really gotten into the Racing car collection. They earned money from their allowance and wanted to purchase a Lego and this was reasonably priced and had a decent amount of pieces still. Great set for a 9 yo.

Bad packing
The toy is awesome but it came packed in an envelope which got crushed and damaged the box which was a problem because it was part of a gift. Legos boxes should be always packed in boxes.

Kids have brains, who knew?
I enjoy buying Legos kits for my grandkids. As a former teacher, and a conservative, I love that legos inspires kids to use their brains. Then they can use their imaginations to play with them. And after a while tear the kits apart and do it all again. The Legos brand is well known and trustworthy to be great quality. I have helped the kids build dozens of kits and not once was a single piece missing or deformed.Even when I couldn’t find a part, the kids did. I have gotten other brands of kits and while the blocks themselves are very good quality, the instructions are not up to Legos quality.Note, the only reason for the lack of a perfect star review is because three of the last 4 items it got were crushed in shipment. I blame the packaging, not the product itself.Another note I would rather NOT get the kit on a Sunday and instead be assured that it is not crushed.

Very nice set
This was a very nice set. However, I was a little disappointed with the instructions. Other lego sets in this age range have more kid oriented instructions (one step per page, “hands” showing what pieces to grab). I was hoping for the same out of this set. Other than that, excellent.
