About Us
Our patterns are designed mainly from old-fashioned and vintage Days of the Week towels, quilt blocks, and clothing.
The Aunt Martha Difference
Our hand stitch embroidery patterns are perfect for those just learning how to embroider or for experienced stitchers – such as mothers, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers – who want to create unique gifts to share or have a project to work on together with their loved ones. With our simple iron-on patterns, hand stitching has never been so accessible and efficient. You won’t need to spend hours of tracing and stamping patterns onto fabric anymore; simply cut out your chosen design, place it face down on your fabric, and iron the pattern into place. The heat transfer ink will set onto your fabric, which provides a visible pattern to begin embroidering.
Be sure to use 6-strand embroidery floss to complete your project.

Finally
I’ve purchased 15 to 20 different products labeled “flour sack towels” over the years, and not one has ever lived up to the standard set 25+ years ago by Williams Sonoma. Not even new towels from Williams Sonoma. These towels are the closest any product has ever come to meeting that standard. The towels are well made – the hemming is clean, straight, and consistent, the hanger is very high quality, and I was able to pull off the tag (no scissors!) without messing up the stitching. The towels are huge, super thick, and the fabric is smooth and wrinkle-free.Two important tests: 1) what happens when they are washed, and 2) do they actually serve their purpose as kitchen towels.Washing – I washed the new towels with some towels that were sitting in the laundry, waiting to be washed. I washed the towels with hot water, laundry detergent, and oxyclean bleach alternative (chlorine bleach being hard to come by these days). I dried them with high heat, without dryer sheets. They came out of the dryer without wrinkles, had not shrunk, and the hems were still intact and smooth. I was impressed.Function – I use flour sack towels for everything in the kitchen. Drying dishes, drying countertops, cleaning up countertop spills, under the dish drainer, to cover yeast dough as it rises, and most importantly these days, drying my hands. I was happily surprised that these towels were absorbent after just one washing – dried dishes better than most (not perfectly, sure, but only one washing), dried the countertop well, excellent for drying my hands, and did just fine covering the pizza crust dough that was rising. They also dried quickly, even folded up and sitting on the counter. I haven’t mopped up coffee, juice, tomato sauce, or other spills yet, so I’m not sure how clean they’ll get with a rinse in the sink or wash in the machine. But even if they hold onto some stains, they’re still way better than any other towels I’ve purchased in the past 15 years.Highly recommended. I am purchasing more today.

Sturdy and Soft: Aunt Martha’s Kitchen Towels for Every Tasks
My two cents…You get a pack of 7 beautiful, white cotton dish towels, each pre-washed, bleached, and generously sized at 28 inches by 28 inches. These will get softer and more absorbent with each wash. They’re sturdy and versatile. They’ve been my go-to for everything—from cleaning up accidental spills and messes to drying off my dishes, covering my dough as it rises, and even handy for dusting or giving the windows a good clean. The loop in the corner makes hanging them up a breeze. We’ve given these towels a run for their money over the years. And, like all good things, they’re showing signs of wear. I’m considering getting another pack soon. Honestly, they’re that good. They’ve been worth every penny in my book!

Indisputable winner among 6 evaluations
Lemme tell ya what I’m lookin for in a flour sack towel. The criteria aren’t complicated: sturdy, dense, tightly-woven, heavy weight, straight-edged, well-hemmed, unblemished. A piece of fabric of sufficient quality to serve elegantly on the lap as a table napkin; or in the kitchen serving an all-purpose roll ranging from oven hot-pad, to dish drying, to finger towel draped over the chef’s shoulder; or in the utility room as a champion all-purpose cleaning cloth — particularly on windows. How hard can that be? Apparently it’s pretty hard because most offerings peddled as “flour sack towels” don’t come close. To find towels that measure up, I bought six different offerings based on description and customer reviews and considered each carefully. Great towels but have imperfections in the weave
I bought these to hand embroider on and I’ve bought these towels in the past at JoAnn and loved them! JoAnn didn’t have any in stock so I bought from Amazon. These ones are a nice tight weave and are square and have a very nice edge to them with a hanging strap as well. The issue I have with these ones that I ordered off Amazon is that every single towel has something going on with the weave from when they were being made. It’s something that is in the thread when it’s being made. See photos I attached of the little lines in them. I’m keeping these ones for myself but if I were making these for someone else or selling these I would be returning them due to the imperfections in the towels. Gave them 4 starts just because they are really really nice for embroidery. Lost a star due to the thread thing going on in every towel.

Just like Grandma’s flour sack towels!
I love these towels! They are heavy weight, durable, and as lint-free as anything I’ve ever found. I own a cleaning service, and use them on windows, mirrors and, really, anything glass. Mine have been washed and dried on high heat on a daily basis for five months now, and I have not noticed any shrinkage or distortion at all. Hems are well sewn and strong without any fraying at the edges. They do get more absorptive over time. It took about a month for mine to really pick up water as well as they do now. So, the older they are, the better they get, and I can see them lasting for many years of heavy use. My only complaint is that they are really large. A lot for my small hands to hang onto, but I’m too lazy to drag out my sewing machine and cut them down smaller. If these ever wear out, I’ll get a smaller size.UPDATE: Almost 2 and a half years after purchasing a package of 7 Aunt Martha’s flour sack towels, they are beginning to show some age. I have used these wonderful towels daily in my business, and they have gone through the washer and dryer daily as well. With all the abuse they have endured, I do have holes in a few of them from getting hung up on sharp edges, but there is absolutely no fraying, and the hemmed edges are still intact! I have just made my 2nd purchase of these “Aunt Martha’s” towels and can’t wait to see if they are still of the same amazing quality. This time I bought a smaller size. If they are a good as the first ones I bought, I will order several more packages so that I will never be without!

My first attempt at working on these
My first attempt at using these with fabric pens which I was going to give out with presents this Christmas but it was my first time doing this and I wasn’t too happy with my ability in blending colors so the grand kids used most of them for their gifts and I’ll stick with the embroidery machine but they are very good quality and price compared to what you can get locally so I’ll be ordering more of them.

These do the trick. Glad I bought them.
For environmental and sanitary reasons, I use plain white dish towels to dry vegetables and fruit after washing them. I keep a bunch of towels handy so I am not limited when I am on a roll prepping vegetables and/or fruit for cooking, or cleaning my newly-purchased veggies and fruits to keep until later. Aunt Martha’s 33-Inch by 38-Inch Flour Sack Dish Towels work great for that. Additionally, using these towels as I do, I use far fewer paper towels, which is good for the environment, frees-up cupboard space, and is good for my wallet. The towels are all-white so I do not worry about preserving a print or embroidery on them. When my son, a chef, is cooking in my kitchen, he has white cloths to abuse like they do in professional kitchens and I don’t have to worry about him staining my pretty kitchen towels. After use, I just toss the towels into a laundry basket and when I have enough for a load I wash them with a just a little bleach for disinfecting. Because they don’t need to look nice for decorative purposes, it doesn’t matter if they’re stained, but if a person cares about that and doesn’t use bleach for whitening, a soak in some Oxywhitening will maintain the white color.Because they are so large, I dry these towels in a hot dryer without worrying about shrinkage. They do not take long to dry, which is good for conserving energy, bringing down one’s electric bill and contributing to the preservation of the earth’s environment. The truly dedicated can hang the towels outside where the sun will dry them in a snap. These dish towels are large enough to work for anything I wash and prepare. In fact, they are bigger than I need for a lot of fruits and veggies. When that’s the case, I just keep using the dry sections until I’m either done or the towel is too wet to absorb any more and I need to grab another one. These towels really are absorbent. I like how dry just-washed herbs and lettuce are after a roll in one of these towels. It’s so much less hassle to clean and dry herbs and lettuce that way versus a salad spinner or paper towels. (Who knows what’s on paper towels? Paper towels also cannot absorb much before they are too wet too fast and one needs more of them.) I just just roll wet herbs or lettuce up in one of these towels, give it a few quick, firm squeezes, and the produce is dryer than when I used a salad spinner; they’re dry enough to use right away. These towels are so absorbent that by the time I am finished with one it is very damp to soaking wet, so when I am finished with my work, I throw it on my kitchen floor and using my feet, I push it quickly around my kitchen floor to wipe up spills and spots before I toss the towel in the hamper. When I opened the package I found no fraying edges and they have stayed that way for months despite regular machine washing in cold water with small amounts of bleach and hot machine drying.I am happy with this purchase.

Almost like Momma’s flour sack towels!
Nice 1/2″ hem on all 4 sides, mine measuring 32″x36″ after first washing. Durable weight, mine averaging 140g of 100% bleached, not bright white, more like light ivory cotton. Has a convenient fabric corner loop for hanging and made in India. I would definitely buy again, but shouldn’t need to for some time due to the quality of these “flour sack” towels.

Minimal shrinkage
First photo is after 1st wash. 2nd photo is the washed dish towel on top of a new dish towel. Some flour sack towels turn into wash cloths because they shrink that much. My favorite dish towels are flour sack material. Very happy with how the towels and material are holding up

I absolutely loved the Threshold brand flour sack towels from Target because …
I’m so relieved to find these….I just wanted to come back and leave a review of these towels. I have read so many reviews until my eyes crossed trying to find what I was looking for. I use flour sack towels to embellish with designs from my embroidery machine. I absolutely loved the Threshold brand flour sack towels from Target because they were a heavier tighter weave, more quality material, but they sadly discontinued those. So that sent me on a quest to find a comparable towel to use. Many of the flour sack towels out there are way too thin with a very loose weave. Not quite cheese cloth, but very close to it. Those are fine for a simple design such as red work or with hand embroidery (because as you wash them they do tighten up a bit) but really don’t hold up nicely with the denser designs. These however are very close to the same quality as the ones I am used too. I pre-wash and iron before embellishing and they do wash up perfectly. I did notice some slight shrinkage but not more than a 1/4 inch if that.. They are hemmed on all 4 sides and have a nice loop sewn into one corner for hanging. If you are looking for a flour sack towel for embroidery….these are absolutely perfect.

The only tell you will ever need!
I never expected a plain white towel to work so well! It’s much more absorbent than I was expecting. I have used other similar flour sack towels that just did not hold the weight of water these towels do. They are wonderful for drying and for just cleaning up at the end of the day. The large size makes it convenient for using it on the table to covering fresh baked goods for dinner. The best part of all, since they’re all white, they are bleachable! I will say this though, I have washed them several times in nothing but Oxy clean and gentle All detergent they come out beautiful. I only use bleach when they have gotten dirty with tomato sauce. Definitely give these towns a try. The money savings alone is a bonus.

Normally I love these towels… normally!
I’ve ordered quite of few sets of these towels… I hand paint them. However, I am not happy with one of the last sets I ordered. I am completely OK with the occasional colored thread that runs through them and I am OK with the fact that they aren’t all the same size or even completely square (that’s all in the nature of flour sack towels)… BUT, this time 2 out of 7 had browns marks/stains on them. Normally if they are too bad for my crafts, I will use them myself… I’m not even sure I want to look at brown marks on them though! I know I’m not going to spend my money sending them back though, so I suppose I’m stuck with them.Even more disappointing… Amazon just raised the price $10 per set… just since I ordered them! They were a good deal before, but you just priced yourselves out of my business! Lower the price back down and you’ll win it back!I’m still giving these towels a 4-star review since they are the best flour sack towels I have found. Which makes the price change even more disappointing… but I can’t make a profit on my craft if the towels alone cost 70% of what I sell them for!

Big, easy to wash, smooth, absorb well enough, don’t fall apart in wash
Wanted some kitchen towels that would be easier to use and nicer on the hands than the stained rags I was using.Admittedly they don’t absorb as much as say a bathroom washcloth, but they are smooth and don’t leave lint on glass. They are big, I cut them in half and hemmed to make them a suitable size for my kitchen (I hang them off cabinet handles)They absorb quickly, feel smooth and pleasant on the hand, and the original stitching hasn’t come out in the wash, like some kitchen towels I got in big box stores like Target. Don’t underestimate how big they are, get a ruler out and consider how huge they are. They are not perfectly square, if you are bothered by things being slightly angled. I think I may dye a bit of a design near the edge for decoration.

These are the best flour sack towels on the market. The natural imperfections in the weave are part of their charm. Tightly woven, highly absorbent, quick drying, durable. The fabric is excellent for embroidery work.

I’ve always been a fan of flour sack towels for dish drying. They seem to be the most absorbent and quickest drying. These particular towels are great. I bought these not really thinking bout the size, but 33 by 38-Inch are huge. 100% satisfied and highly recommended.

Pretty good blanks for block printing
I was looking for quality towels for printing on, and these are great quality. I didn’t wash this towel before printing on it so it faded somewhat after the first wash. I’m sure it’ll absorb ink better next time.

These are very well made terry cloths at an extremely reasonable price.
I purchased these 100% terry cloths for a specific reason and that is bread making. After doing research about what you should be looking for in a terry cloth to put over your newly baked bread is the size of the cloth and the material used. These cloths are 33″ X 38″ and made of 100% cotton. As my research suggested, be sure to cover your bread completely while it is cooling down and use a fabric that is natural versus synthetic to ensure no odd odors or tastes transfers from the cloth to the bread. As advertised, these clothes are prebleached and washed but the manufacturer does recommend you wash them one more time before use. When I opened the bag, I could find no smells at all other than that of cotton fabric which is what I wanted. I washed a couple and left the rest in the supplied package for future use or maybe as a gift. Of course, there are plenty of other uses for these clothes. Because of the larger than normal size and the low price point for these, you will find it extremely hard to do better.

Very Hot Water Wash & Hot Dry, only shrunk 1in
Fabric has a good weight, it’s on the heavier side for flour sack towels. I normally wash my towels in ***very hot water *** and then dry them on high heat in the dryer. In the past, some of the other brands of towels have shrunk to less than half their original size. The 33 x 38 inch towels only shrunk 1 inch in both directions. I am very pleased with this purchase.

I love these towels!
I bought these to replace some dish towels that were leaving fibers on my dishes when I dried them. These don’t leave any fibers! I’d say these towels are absorbent insofar as they soak up water fast, but they probably hold less water than thicker towels. Not really a downside for me, as I don’t hand dry a ton of dishes in one go. And that characteristic cuts both ways, in a good way, because they also air dry relatively quickly. I will say that if you’re weird like me and wanted to see what happens if you try to dry one of these towels in the microwave, they will scorch and discolor slightly, so don’t do that, lol.

Good for embroidery
This is the second time I’ve ordered these dish towels through Amazon. These are not white like the first ones I ordered. Instead, they are off-white and dingy looking – and they have a very unpleasant smell. I’m washing them before using them for machine embroidery (as I always do) and keeping them. But I’m disappointed in the color – and I really hope the smell goes away. If it doesn’t, I don’t think I can use them as intended – and they would be expensive for use as rags. The one-star rating on giftable is due to the color and smell as they came, but I hope to make them completely giftable with cute additions of trim and embroidery if the smell goes away.UPDATE: After washing, the unpleasant odor was gone, and the towels weren’t quite as dingy. However, they still weren’t really a true white, and I also noticed these towels have a rougher texture and are thinner than those I’ve bought before. They’ll still be usable, but the quality definitely isn’t what I’ve come to expect from Aunt Martha’s flour sack dish towels. It’s unfortunate that Joann Fabric and Crafts (where I first started buying them) no longer sells the 33″ X 38″ size. If they did, I just pay the higher price for the higher quality.

I was kind of on the fence after reading the reviews of these towels and other similar towels. I got these ones and hoped for the best. They are not perfectly square, which doesn’t bother me that much. I did not have any sort of random colored threads in any of the towels. I am doing a few projects and will be buying more of these in the future.

Better than Genuine Flour Sack Material
I have a genuine flour sack from my Grandmother that I have saved which is over 70 years old. She had kept it with her kitchen equipment and I have kept it for sentimental reasons. Why she only kept this one I am not sure. Maybe she especially like the design. I don’t understand the commenters than complain about not being able to find “real” flour sack towels. There was no such thing. Ranch and farm people like my Grandmother saved their flour sacks, if they were able to afford store bought flour, and turned them into either clothing, quilts or for kitchen use. These Aunt Martha towels are thicker than genuine flour sacks, at least those that are vintage or 50+ years old. Flour mills didn’t use really thick materials for their sacking as all they desired was a bag sturdy enough not to allow the flour to sift out or break. That doesn’t require a very thick material. I don’t know exactly what people are talking about or expecting when they look for “real flour sack” towels. Real flour sack were not all that thick – at least those that I have seen and touched. I have purchased many, many flour sack towels and bar towels from Sam’s Club, Amazon, and fabric stores. I have even purchased towels from working flour mills in Utah so I knew the towel was made of the exact same fabric as those used for their flour sacks. While those purchased at the flour mill were very high quality, I have found these towels to be even thicker. I doubt one could find anything thicker, but if you do please let me know. I think it a waste of time to embroider anything thinner than these as they just don’t last and then the art work is wasted. They have held up to daily use and frequent laundering for years. I have painted them, dyed them with silk dye and they accept color and dye very well. When given as gift people always comment on the quality of the fabric. I really don’t think you can find better.

Thick Towel
We bought these towels to dry dishes when hand-washing them. They are thick and work great. Very happy with them, and would buy again when needed. We expect this package to last a very long time!

Great tea towels
I used these for embroidery and they worked out wonderful. Very nice thickness and easy to embroider on. They are big enough that I was able to cut them in half and got double the embroidery projects. I’ll be buying more!

Very large!
I prefer to use flour sack type dish towels. These are very large, almost too large. The weave is also “wrinkly” (if that’s a word) and not smooth. These work fine, but I will likely not order them again, because I prefer a slightly smaller cloth and one with w smooth texture.

These are all around useful flower sack, old fashioned dish towels to dry dishes !
The advantage of these dish towels is that they absorb water left in bowls and pots and pans in conditions where you need to dry these kinds of kitchen tools. They are also useful for fork, knife and spoon drying. One thin I like about them is that the surface is coated with a gripping starch that adds to the absorbency of the dish towels. As flower sack dish towels wear out fairly rapidly there is always a need to restock these useful dish towel. Also I like the large size of these dish towels as they can be stuffed inside of cooking pans that have been washed by hand and need to be dried by hand. Especially useful for dishes not washed in a dish washer and which therefore need hand drying.

Perfect for keeping something damp!
Love the value for money and it stays wet if you get it wet for a while. Great for keeping dough from drying out!

THIS IS IT!!
I have been shopping for this for some time now. I read all the reviews and was hesitant to take a chance on it not being what i wanted without touching it first. I FINALLY found THIS item packaged two per package at Hancock’s Fabrics, bought them and inspected them thoroughly. Then I bought these online.THIS IS IT!This is the super amazing towel of old. There was NO pilling. They wash up like the 100% cotton that they are – you WILL need to iron after washing if you want to stitch on them. But they are true to shape (all right angles, no wonky weirdness after washing) They are extra durably thick. They are perfect for all the kitchen uses I wanted them for, like drying dishes and then the towel air drying quickly, to put under things you wish to drain, etc. They are a bit heavy for straining off the whey in cheese making.I am thrilled with the purchase! I bought three packs of seven. They are highly prized, and I intend to give most of them as gifts. Out of 21 towels, there were 2 with flaws – one had a one inch miss in the hem, and one had the hanger loop not fully attached. Neither of these flaws were of any consequence to me; just sharing the info.update: after using them in my kitchen for a while, i have determined that these are better quality/thicker/more tightly woven than any i have ever used before. my hubby says this will diminish over time, and it may. meanwhile, if i decide i need more for myself, i’ll probably get the Aunt Martha’s regular rather than the premium. i expect they will be well received as gifts!

So happy to have found these
These are not gauzy like so many are. They are so much better for absorption at 100% cotton.
