Great Grinder
I’ve been looking for a nutmeg grinder for some time. My daughter had one and I loved it, and so she found this one for me for Christmas. It holds 4 nutmeg nuts and does a good job grinding the nut for drinks or for cooking. Be aware, it does not come with a catch tray or a bottom cover so small amounts of the ground nut can escape after use. It did come with a plastic cover for shipping so I just use that. It works fine, but it is thin plastic and will likely break with time.

Perfect for Fresh Nutmeg
Bought this after seeing it used at a cooking demonstration because it really brought out the magnificent smell of the nutmeg in the recipe and it made ALL the diference! I enjoyed using it for eggnog and to grind nutmeg into my cookies over the holidays – many commented on ‘how delicious that nutmeg made things’. I now consider this little grinder as valuable a kitchen tool as my fresh pepper mill. A good investment for a quality product.

Doesn’t work
Bought this thinking it would be great for eggnog but it was a complete waste of money. The spikes designed to hold the nut in place don’t work at all and the nut just sits there. Wouldn’t buy again!!

IT does not grind fine. Nutmeg has lumps
This is my second grinder. They do not last long. The spring is difficult to compress. The nutmeg nuts do not fit in this well. I have to use the small ones and use the grater to shave the larger nutmeg nuts. The grind is large, not fine. I wish there was another choice.

Com-on how do you open it?
OK I got it opened but it was stuck when I attempted to open it. I’ve broken many things in the past trying to open. Once open I could see how it works. But with no indication or instruction on how to open it I was Leary to assert to much effort for fear of breaking it. I don’t care that you don’t leave instructions but you need to tell the customer how to open it, DUH.

Satisfied purchase
Once you intially get it opened, which was c-h-a-l-lenging and the factory tightening seal is broken, it is easy to load. The grinder is more a shaving, however very fine and incorporates completely without grit. I really like it. I prefer this over my microplaner. No more knuckle or nail shavings to worry about, winner! I would recommend.

Terrible
This is a horrible grinder. You have to get just the right amount of nutmeg into the main section in order to be able to close the lid. If the nutmeg is too big then you can’t close lid it doesn’t work and if it’s too small then you’re not really grinding anything. It’s a cute design but it is horrible to use. Completely useless.

Works very well
I bought this item to grind whole allspice and whole cloves. It works like a champ. The only downside is that this cute little gadget doesn’t grind the spices as finely as they would be if purchased pre-ground; however, they are ground finely enough to work in most baking recipes. I have yet to try a whole nutmeg and don’t know if the area where you put the spices to be ground is large enough to hold a whole nutmeg. Time will tell. That aside, for the price, this is a nifty little spice grinder. It seems to be made of sturdy plastic and it is small enough to store without requiring a large amount of space. Glad I bought it.

DON”T BUY THIS
I wanted a traditional looking grinder with a handle not the cannister style that you twist in your palms that looks like something you would take camping. BIG MISTAKE. I wanted this for grinding allspice but most people bought it for grinding nutmeg. After you fill the narrow plastic inner chamber with whole spice you then have to press down the plastic top (w/ handle) on the metal spring loaded metal pestle. Plastic and metal are a lousy pairing. Because the chamber is filled it requires a lot of force to push the spring loaded metal pestle down with the plastic top. THEN you have to line up narrow slots on both plastic pieces while the spring is being held down. The first time I got it sufficiently to grind. Just now I could not get the slots to align while holding down the plastic top. You can’t press down on the top because the (plastic) grinding handle is in the way. The slots are plastic and they too already don’t make a discernable click when locked together. I got one side locked but the other side wasn’t aligned. I kept trying to lock the two parts together but they were always crooked (I didn’t even hear the discernable click this time. I think I wore out the slots. Made in China by the way.

Give for mother-in-law
I got this for my mother-in-law for her birthday. She saw mine in the cabinet, and that’s when I learned she didn’t have one. I got this and she put it to immediate use in several recipes. She even brought us some of what she made as a thank you. It is very sturdy, and aesthetically pleasing if you are into that kind of thing too.

Works great
So far so good. Works great, grinds the nutmeg nicely and the storage compartment is an added bonus. My only complaints are rather superficial and not necessarily specific to this grinder:1) The round shape means it doesn’t store in a spice cabinet well. I have to store the grinder elsewhere, rather than in the same cabinet as my cinnamon and salt and other spices. This should be fairly obvious up front but it’s worth mentioning.2) I had bought a standard size spice jar from Fresh Market of fresh nutmeg. There is *just* too much to fit in the built in storage compartment. I wish the storage compartment was just a smidgen larger to fit the last 2 or so nuts in it that came in the jar I bought at the supermarket, so I don’t have the spice jar with two nuts in one cabinet and this grinder in another cabinet.Like I said, neither are really dings against the grinder itself, which works great.

Hard Nuts!
The grind was inconsistent. Large pieces and a fine powder. Nutmeg is large for the holding area. Had to press down hard on the apparatus to contain the nut. But way easier than a hand grater! Saves my knuckles.

Works great, a bit small for big hands
This was a replacement for a nutmeg grinder we’ve had for 10 or 12 years. It’s really cute and compact. Plenty of storage for nutmegs. Easy to assemble. It grinds well. I have big hands and found it just a little bit hard to hold and rotate the handle. It is perfect for my spouse. I looked at several similar products and chose this. I think I made the right choice.

Awkward but grinds well
It’s a bit challenging to grip the tiny device & turn the grinding handle without bumping into knuckles. I wish it had a tray to capture the ground nutmeg. Opening it to add a nut was challenging the first time I used it; instructions aren’t adequate.

Decent grinder
First, let me explain what this item is, because I didn’t really understand it until I got it. It is NOT like a pepper mill, where you fill up the outside and it feeds into the grinder and out the bottom. The box explains that the interior of the grinder can be used to store the spices, but they don’t feed the grinder. To load the grinder, you have to remove the top, fill a small interior cylinder about 2/3 of the way, then put the top back on. At that point, cranking the handle turns the spices against the sharp slots in the bottom of the grinder, and ground spices fall through the slots.Because the slots are fairly wide, I would say black peppercorns are about the smallest seed you could use with decent results. I bought it to use for grinding allspice, which are about pea-size, and it works great for that. Nutmeg, which are even bigger, would be perfect. Anything soft, like ginger, or small, like rosemary, it just isn’t designed for. I bought this, and will keep it, because the regular peppermills I have tried just can’t handle allspice – the seeds seem to be just too big to feed well. Now that I have it, I’m going to have to get some whole nutmegs. It would be interesting to try nuts and broken cinnamon sticks, as well. The only issue I see so far is that I’ve been having a bit of trouble getting the lid seated firmly all the way around, but that may be because I filled the grind tube fairly high, so it’s hard to push down firmly and evenly enough to turn the lid so all the plastic tabs catch. If this item fails, I suspect that those plastic tabs on the lid will be the reason.

Not that easy to use
I was SO excited to receive this item, plus the whole nutmegs that I had ordered separately to go with it. Be aware of a few things: 1) It takes a LOT of strength in your hands to assemble and use the grinder. I have fairly severe arthritis in some of my fingers, and it wasn’t easy. 2) The whole nutmegs are quite large (at least the size of the end joint of your thumb) and VERY hard, and I found it works better to cut them in half and just put one half in the grinder at a time. 3) It DOES get better with a little practice! The scent of the freshly ground nutmeg is worth it. :0)

One at a time, which I guess is ok, but I’d like to keep all together. It’s hard to close if you have a bit larger nutmeg in there.

Great little mill!
I consider this an excellent, professional-grade nutmeg mill. This is the 2nd we’ve owned in 30 yrs. The last one finally got too dull, but, it lasted a lonnnng time! The spring holds a standard-sized nut in place firmly and the blades finely grate the nutmeg perfectly, no extra chopping needed— suitable for cake and pastry recipes, and drink toppings! Larger nuts may have to be halved before insertion. Older folks and children may need assistance securing the top to the bottom as the spring is necessarily quite strong, but adults should have no problem at all.

Pretty and functional
I bought this nutmeg grinder for my girlfriend for a holiday gift because we both love coffee and we both love nutmeg in our coffee, so it was a perfect gift. Now we both have one and can think of each other while savouring our delicious weekend coffee, even though we’re in separate towns. I also ordered some fresh whole nutmeg to accompany the grinder..

A Neat Little Gaget
Pretty cool. I like the flying saucer look. It works really well. The only thing is that the first time getting the cover off was difficult. There are two or three locking lugs. It only needs a little counter-clockwise twist, but initially it is so tight I had to use a couple of channel lock pliers. After that, it is easy. I’m going to do potatoes au gratin and use it for the custard. I also like to use Bechamel in my Lasagna, so – woohoo!

The best value for grinding nutmeg!
I love this grinder! It was my single best purchase for myself for Thanksgiving meal making. I had never ground fresh nutmeg before. A hand held finder to out half my finger nail and only allowed me to use a portion of the nutmeg. This grinder is fantastic!! You drop it in, press and lock the lid and you’re in business!! Not recommended for grinding anything smaller. The only improvement I would recommend to the product is for a cap or lid to place over the bottom while in storage.

Not good for nutmeg or other spices
It specifically said for nutmeg but even my smallest one didn’t fit in there. It’s also a very coarse grind which us not ideal for most uses for spices. Quite disappointing. I’ll figure out something for it because it’s not worth the hassle to return. Need to get a different nutmeg device though.

Essential for nutmeg lovers
Using a microplane or other small grater to grate your whole nutmeg always left small pieces behind and ended up being more of hassle than it was worth. This little device changes all that! You can store your 5-6 pieces of whole nutmeg in the container, and refill the middle loading area when one gets low. The best part is that all of the nutmeg gets used (and grated) because of the spring-loaded crank, without you risking your fingertips! It’s SO easy to use; the crank works very well and relatively smoothly. Makes for easy storage, too. And nothing beats freshly grated nutmeg! Makes the powder you get from a supermarket taste like old sawdust in comparison.

Poor quality and inadequate
This is advertised as a grinder for nutmegs and white peppercorns.Nutmeg shifts in column with uneven grinding. Difficult to close use with a nutmeg in the grinding tube.I tried white peppercorns and I could only put 1/2 teaspoonful at a time in the tube. Poor grinding ability, not all peppercorns could be ground.Don’t waste your time or money on this.

Broke after 3 uses
The plastic wasn’t strong enough, very disappointing. Not all the nutmeg fit inside, they had to be small fir it to grind. While using it the top came off, don’t waste your money, cheaply made. Maybe if the casing and the inside are made of stainless steel, it would have lasted longer.

Works well, but you’ll have to be a bit clever
This works very well to grind the nutmegs, but loading it can be a little challenging. I love the way extra nutmegs sit under the plastic lid, making your spices decorative until they are used. The problem is that this needs to be a little bit bigger. I’ve often had to cut a whole nutmeg in half to fit in into the grinding chamber, and that usually means it will go sailing through the air to be lost behind the refrigerator. Wasteful! And these are not cheap. But the pieces won’t fit together unless I do. If it were just a LITTLE bit bigger, it would fit.The same goes for the storage area — sometimes the nutmegs won’t fit, and I struggle to get the top to screw on because of this. Only a little bit bigger, and there would be no problem. The grinding part works very well. If the surface gets too smooth, just open the grinder, move that piece around or turn it over, and close the grinder. It works fine after that. If there’s a piece at the end that won’t grind, throw it into a stew.

Grates the Nutmeg to a Powdery-Fine Texture
I think this nutmeg grater is adorable, and the fact that it holds extra nutmegs while grating one into or over your egg nog or custard just blows my mind! This grater grates to a powdery-fine texture, almost as fine as corn starch. As a bonus, you can sharpen, or replace the blade altogether!

Great Gift, Surprisingly Small, Keep the Box
NOT FOR CLOVES!Great for Nutmeg, very good for all spice, storage room for about 6 extra Nutmeg Nuts, which is a lot!Keep the box! Twist the clear top half counter-clockwise to unlock, and it should come apart easily. Load one nut in the center, fill the outer storage tray with more nuts, and mate the halves of the container back together. You’ll have to compress the spring in the middle, and line up the twist-lock tabs to close it, then twist clockwise to lock it.Turn the handle clockwise, and the spice comes out the bottom. (Which is why I say keep the box, which is also quite tiny!) Fresh ground is better than a fresh can of pre-ground spice straight from the grocery, never mind that ten year old can in your cupboard.
