Salvatore Capezio was born in 1871 in Muro Lucano, Italy. Uninterested in following in his father’s footsteps as a construction engineer, he became an artist of his own right, a cobbler. In 1887, at the age of 17, he opened his shop on Broadway and 39th Street, diagonally across from the old Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. Soon, the shop became a meeting place for dancers who would stop by to discuss their needs and to get a pair of his shoes. As Capezio’s popularity grew, dancers from around the world made it a point to visit him and purchase his shoes. The innovation of the products that Salvatore Capezio created and the camaraderie he shared with the dancers molded the direction that his company would follow. In this image, the Capezio brand was established to promote and recognize ongoing achievements and participation in dance. Capezio products remain in the forefront in quality and in technological advances with innovations like the split-sole, the stretch-insert, the Dansneaker and the Tapsneaker. Capezio believes that their success is dependent upon the individual commitment of each customer to continually set new standards of creativity and performance, while preserving a reputation for dependability and distinction. Capezio pledges their support and dedication to the advancement of dance, theater and recreation in communities worldwide.

Size up
Any time you buy tap shoes it’s always good to size up and I wish that I did!!! Capezio is always the best and most amazing brand of tap shoes but I would have liked it if I had a size 11 option especially because my little girl hit a grown spurt

Size up!
Great shoe and quality but runs small and narrow so size up and unless your child has a VERY skinny foot go wide fit!

Good fit for smaller child
We had a hard time finding good fitting taps for my granddaughter who is smaller than the average child. We are happy with both the fit and durability. She is thrilled!

Very Nice Tap Shoes
I purchased these and a similar pair by Bloch for my 4 year old to try since she’s starting dance lessons.Got them in black patent color. There’s a fixed elastic strap and the shoes can be worn with just the elastic straps. Or you can use the included grosgrain ribbon laces which allows you to better control the fit.Daughter wears size 10. I ordered 11. There’s some room but they’re not as big on her as actual size 11 shoes. So I think other reviewers recommending to size up is the way to go.The two brands looked very similar. I actually like this pair because the inserts are pink and feel slightly thicker and softer. The toe box seemed shorter and rounder which I found cuter. But after my daughter tried them both on, she insisted on the Bloch pair. Both brands are similar quality and similarly priced. Can’t go wrong with either!

Fit great, normal shoe size
We ordered two pairs in different sizes because all the reviews said they were narrow and ran small. But the regular pair in her current shoe size fit perfect. My little dancer is so excited to wear them at her first dance class.

Good Quality, but Sizing is Off
These are good quality shoes for little kids starting out in tap. My daughter is 6 and these are her first tap shoes. She wears a 13 in street shoes and her feet are medium width, not too wide, but definitely not narrow. I got her a 1 Wide and they were too tight and too small. The description of the shoes says to go up half to one size, so I went up one full size and still too tight and too small. I returned them and got a size 2 Wide and they are okay width wise, still seem narrow to me. As far as size, they’re too big but we will work with them. I didn’t trust getting a 1.5 so I went with the size 2 and we are okay with that. I’d rather my daughter be comfortable and not in pain.

Great value for the money.
I bought these for my daughter and they have been great. Very nice quality shoe to take on a toddler in a dance class. Easy to slip on and off by herself. She’s jumped up and down on my hardwood floor and no damage has been done. Very impressed and will buy the next size up as needed.

Really nice quality but sizing is WAY off.
Overall these are really nice quality (just ordered my daughter her 3rd pair) but the sizing is WAY off and run insanely small. It took a few tries before we found the right fit. My 3.5 year old doesn’t have wide feet but I need to get the wide shoes otherwise they are so uncomfortable and need to size up.

True to size.
I bought 1.5 size up for my daughter because of the reviews and to let some room to grow, and they run pretty big on my daughter, for my experience I should buy the normal size. They seems strong and are cute.

Go with the wide sizes!
I first bought the regular sized shoes and they were way to narrow for my babe’s feet. And I don’t think she has wide feet either. I had to exchange for the wide size and it was perfect! Babe’s been using them a couple months and they are holding up great. She took out the laces in the first few weeks but there’s a stretchy band there to keep her shoes tight around her feet without the laces. Overall great buy!

Perfect for kids
My 7 year old wore these for tap class this year and they were perfect! She never complained about them hurting her feet. The ties can come off if tying is an issue and the elastic across the top keeps them on and snug. She has relatively narrow feet and these fit well. I just bought the next size up for this year!

Happy Little Tapper
Capezio girls Jr. Tyette Tap Shoe, Black PatentGot into a waitlisted ballet and tap combo with only 3 days to spare, so I had to get dance shoes quick. Ballet I knew how to order, but tap is harder having to consider that shoes should fit well and not slip. Also, patent leather is stiff compared to the soft ballet shoes. Even though we love Bloch ballet shoes, I went with capezio since that’s what I grew up with. I did not go off the sizing chart, instead I ordered half size up and in Wide. Both girls (just turned 6, and turning 4 next month) don’t have wide feet but are used to their toes having a little bit of wiggle room. Guess what, They fit perfectly well! And are so cute! They’re gonna have a blast tapping away in their first class tomorrow.

Beautiful Shoes!
These shoes are extremely cute and very well made. I would definitely buy them again. My 3 and a half year old daughter’s foot is very narrow, and it has always been difficult for any regular/medium-sized width shoes to fit her comfortably without them constantly slipping out. I always have to purchase the exact size of shoe that her foot measures. Half a size bigger for her always means the shoes will slip out even with socks on. Since it is very difficult to find narrow shoes anywhere, I was very excited when I saw that this brand carried narrow widths. However, upon reading many reviews, I decided to stick with a medium width and order half a size bigger for her. I am so glad I stuck with the medium-sized width! Because her feet are so narrow the medium width barely gives her feet a perfect amount of wiggle space. If I would have gotten the narrow width, the shoes would have been a bit too snug even for her foot. As far as length, I should have ordered a whole size bigger instead of half a size bigger. I will be exchanging them. Her foot measures exactly a size 9 in toddlers (measured 2 days ago), but with the 9 1/2’s she only has about 3 centimeters of room. The strap that it has under the lace is tight and helps keep the foot in the shoe.

Cute shoes do not run big
These shoes are super cute typically tap shoes run big however these do not I ordered 1/2 size down and they were too small luckily the return process is super easy and I was able to reorder 1/2 size up and they where perfect they are narrow as expected with tap shoes so the 1/2 size up really helps.

Fits on small size and extremely narrow
It took ordering 4 pairs to get the correct size. My toddler has an average to narrow foot. Not only did I have to size up length wise, we also had to order wide width. Overall, the product looks like good quality though. It would be easier if you can find in a store to determine the size.

Everything You Need In A Tap Shoe!
These tap shoes are perfect! We are on our second set of shoes. Capezio is a dependable brand & one I trust (I was a dancer for 10 years). It’s a great quality shoe will hold up for your tapping toddler. I love that there is a piece of elastic to hold the shoe on their foot vs just depending on the ribbon to hold. You could even skip using the ribbon if you want but it does look cuter with.I purchased one full size bigger than what my daughter wears. For example my daughter wears a size 8 in regular shoes (Carters, Cat & Jack) & I purchased a size 9 for her. They are a little big but will last her longer. Going a size up does not effect her dancing or walking in them.A few things to know when buying tap shoes1. They should have a rubber grip at the ball of the foot. Cheaper tap shoes do not have them & your toddler is more likely to slip. Most dance studios recommend this too.2. Black is the classic color the one I recommend buying. They will more than likely be required to wear black shoes for their dance recital.3. Do not let them wear them outside. They are not made for outside & can create a lot of wear on the shoe & taps (same with ballet shoes). Also, your toddler will probably want to wear them at home (at least mine do). Please know that these shoes are very, very slippery on tile & you will need to hold onto them. If you have carpet, they will be fine if course. You should be fine with wood floors too but do hold onto them until you know for sure.

Great shoe, but take heed to other reviews about sizing!
I bought this shoe for my 3-year old daughter, who is just starting to wear a size 9 in “street shoe size”. According to Capezio’s website, this and daisy ballet shoes (which I also bought for my daughter) match street shoe sizes. I needed these shoes quickly for my daughter’s dance class, and ordered from Amazon for easy and quick delivery. They arrived fast. I ended up ordering 3 pairs – 9, 9.5 and 10 wide based on reviews, and the 9 and 9.5 were way too small. Her feet wouldn’t even fit into the 9, and we were able to get her feet into the 9.5 but she almost wanted to cry when we asked her to walk around in them. The 10 fits with a little bit of room to grow, so those are the ones we kept. I returned the 9 and 9.5 shoes and already received a refund from Amazon – good customer service! On another note, I also tried to buy her some tap shoes from Payless. Much easier in terms of sizing and fit – she’s a 9.5 in those. They were going to be my backups. Fortunately the Capezios worked because I can really tell the difference in quality. The patent on the Capezios are nicer and shinier, and the taps on the bottom extend more on the shoe than the Payless ones, so they make more tap sounds, which my daughter loves! The elastic strap is nice, but I’m considering cutting them off because it does make it harder for my daughter to get her feet in. But at least I have the option to keep or remove them!

Cute
These are really cute tap shoes. My daughter loves them and they’re really nice for dance class. I’m really confused as to why everyone recommends sizing up because my daughter wears a size 9 and I bought a 10 and they are definitely a true size 10. They are a full size too big on my daughter but I didn’t return them because with them tied tight they stay on pretty securely so I didn’t want to bother.

Capezio runs very small! Go 2 full sizes up!
From dancing as a kid, I knew Capezio notoriously runs small, but these run extremely small and advertise as true to size. For that reason only, I’m giving it 4 stars. Please do NOT buy your true size. I had to return the 1 size up pair I bought and get a full 2 sizes up for my daughter. She is 3.5 and very petite. She normally wears a 6 in toddler shoes with regular width and has short toes (mostly the same lengths). I chose capezio for the round shape and short toe width for her toe shape and ordered these in an 8w. They fit her perfectly for now, but I suspect she will only get 4-6 months out of them. I could have even done 8.5 w to give her room to grow. Otherwise, sturdy shoe, good support, and hit just right. Slippery on the floor of course but nothing the old tape trick won’t fix.

Quality control issues
The shoes came with tissue stuffed in toe and a long black stick from toe to heel to help hold their shape. One of the shoes was fine. The other had the end of the stick – imagine the top of a T – glued into place at the heel of the shoe. It needed to be carved out of the shoe with knives and various other tools. Quality control clearly failed here.

Great Quality
I ordered a 10 wide because my 4 year old is cursed with wide feet, but they still seem narrow. The elastic on top of the foot was practically cutting off circulation, so Im tempted to cut it (then being doomed if they come untied while dancing). Otherwise, great quality and I paid a great price compared to other places that sell capezio

Super cute tap shoes! But things to know…
Thanks to other reviewers, I ordered one size larger than my granddaughter’s true size and the WIDE width. Even the wide width is pretty narrow, so if your child has wide feet, these may not be for you. But with Prime Wardrobe, you can try them without being charged and send them back within 7 days and order something else or a different size and you won’t be charged until you decide to keep a pair (or you let the 7 days go by without returning). They are adorable and sturdy, and my granddaughter loves to tap dance on the tile especially! I also love the ribbon ties. I wish they were a little wider, but they fit her ok, just a little narrow. The narrowness even in the WIDE width is the reason I put 4 stars instead of 5.

Cute and Comfy
This will be my 1st pair of tap shoes for my 5-year-old little girl. I was a bit concerned about ordering these shoes online because we needed to use them within 4 days and if they were too small or big she would not be ready for her event. I used the size chart to measure her foot. I like that I could use a standard ruler and then pick the size. I like that the shoe offers a narrow-foot option as well. I went with the 1.5 sizes up for growth. It’s still a good fit and really cute. They look like babydoll pat and leather shoes. I would recommend this shoe to all my friends.

They DEF run small!!!!
My daughter was a size toddler 5 and I REGRET buying the size 7 and not the 8. The shoes are narrow, but that’s not the issue. I bought 2 sizes bigger and should’ve bought a third size bigger. That’s SO ridiculous. There is ZERO chance I should have had to buy THAT much bigger. Unfortunately, I bought the shoes well before her birthday, so there is nada I can do. My girl wants to wear them SO MUCH and she can’t. It’s odd that she needs three sizes bigger. And now that she’s grown in 2 months, should it be a size 8, 9 or 10??? At this point, she wears 6 or 6.5 shoes. Ugh

Studio Owner Opinion
I am a dance studio owner and also a Mama of a 5 year old tap dancer. The reason I chose Capezio over the Bloch tap shoe is the toe box shape. My daughters toes are more straight across from big toe down to pinky, meaning they don’t taper much downward diagonally. She does not have a wide foot but the Bloch shoe is so curved at the toes that it pinched her 4th and pinky toes. This Capezio tap shoe is more rounded in the toe box and gives more wiggle room for toes that are more boxy or do not taper down drastically. My daughter is big on comfort and the shape of the Capezio shoe provides that more spacious feeling. The shoe is not gaping or too big, it just isn’t cramped in the toes.If you have an extremely narrow foot with tapered toes, the Bloch would fit fine. Otherwise, everyone else will like the Capezio!!Sizing: the dance store website says that this shoe should be ordered same size as street shoe. In our case, both times I ordered half size up and it worked for us. Half size up gave her a teeny room to grow. i didn’t want to have to buy another pair in two months when her foot grew. As a dance teacher, a little extra room is fine but you don’t want the foot sliding around. Kids can also wear socks to fill up the extra room for a while and when they grow into the shoe more, don’t wear socks anymore.

Super cute!
Sweet little tap shoes for kids and very well made. My daughter loves the bow! I like that it uses elastic to stay in place while the bow is more for looks. She has a wider foot, and the wide size was perfect. Would definitely buy these again!
