About Us
Every legend has a birth place. Salvatore Capezio was born in 1871 in Muro, Lucano Italy. Although his home was picturesque, he was craving something more. After training as a cobbler in Italy, he immigrated to the United States. At just 17 years old, Salvatore Capezio opened a small shoe repair shop only a few pirouettes away from New York’s old Metropolitan Opera House. The sign above his door read, “The Theatrical & Historical Shoemaker.” He began his business by repairing theatrical shoes for the Met. Salvatore quickly made the transition from cobbler to shoemaker when he made an emergency pair of shoes for Polish opera star, Jean de Reszke. He discovered pointe shoes to be a challenging balance between delicate construction and complex engineering. In turn, his customers discovered that few shoemakers were as determined as Capezio to take on that challenge.
Salvatore Capezio was appointed as the official shoemaker for the Metropolitan Opera House after his shop became a meeting place for dancers to discuss their shoe needs. Anna Pavlova, purchased Capezio pointe shoes for herself and her entire company during her first tour of the United States. Her generous praise of Salvatore’s work ensured Capezio’s success.

Tried both in a small and medium and the fit around the arms was still too tight.

This leotard looks great on and I’ve gotten compliments on it
This leotard looks great on and I’ve gotten compliments on it. Fits my curves well and I did not think the shoulders were tight like some people have mentioned. I nearly purchased a medium, but after reading reviews I went with the large and I’m glad I did. Normally I buy clothes in a size small. For reference, I am 5’5″ and a size 4 in pants, 2/4 in dresses. This runs very small! Buy a size larger than you think you need.

Runs a bit small, but absolutely excellent quality!
I have bought many Capezio products, and this one is as great as the others! All of their products run small (I’m 5’6′,145lbs and I always purchase a Large). However, once you know to size up by 1 size, you’ll be fine. This leotard has a beautiful back-pattern, see the pictures for an image. The front of this leotard (I bought it in light pink) is quite thick and not see through at all. It’s bit tight in the butt/thigh area, but for the price (about $16) this is a high quality leotard. I will continue to purchase these products!

Nice product. Definitely runs way small. My daughter usually wears an xs in clothes, had to order her a Medium to get the right fit.

Cute leo
Really cute leotard. Worked well for my Black Swan costume (feathered & sparkled it myself). It was just a little snug through the chest to shoulder area, the way that the straps all connect, with no room to adjust. I do tend to be a little larger than the average “ballerina” build in the shoulders (former swimmer/gymnast), so this could just be me.

Cute, but straps are a bit tight
I really like this style of leo, and I usually buy mediums. I got the large (I am 5’4″, 135 lbs, VS says I’m a DD, but I would say B or C cup is more accurate). The body fits fine on the large, but the straps are digging into my shoulders. I was expecting more wiggle room, but I still like it.

Fantastic Purchase!
I was overly pleased with the quality of this product. I am not a dancer but needed a Leotard for a fashion show with extremely short notice, so I needed something flattering and quickly and also took reviewer’s advice and ordered a size up. I placed my order Saturday evening and received it Monday morning without selecting the one day option! The Leotard does in fact have a built in camisole and fits great! This was my first time ordering a product like this on amazon and I am so pleased with my experience!

Just perfect!
I took note of other reviewers’ comments on sizing, and also took into account my own experience of Capezio’s sizing, so bought my daughter (who is 5″2 and slim) a medium. It fits her just great. She was able to dance for the whole of her class without ONCE adjusting the straps (it drives her teacher crazy when the students are constantly stopping to fiddle with their attire!!) and she adores the strappy detail on the back. It was also a big change for her to wear a colour other than black!

Nice leotard, sizes run small
I purchased this leotard for my 11 year old daughter. It is good quality and she likes it very much. I read the earlier reviews that noted the leotard runs small and purchased one size larger than she normally wears (a small instead of x-tra small). It fit perfectly. I would buy another. Happy with purchase & price.

LOVE IT! Only one flaw 🙁
Love this leotard! I usually wear a small (5’3, 117lbs) but ordered a M after reading all the other reviews. This was the best choice for me. The leotard fit nicely and comfortable! Only flaw is that the straps are not adjustable so they’re a little tight so I recommend going two sizes up if you have a long torso.

So flattering! Just size on girth measurement
I love this leo! The sweetheart neckline and low back are definitely not as revealing as they look, so you feel really secure but get all the feminine lines and flattering fit. I have a 60″ girth but otherwise am definitely a small in the size guide. I originally ordered a small, and it fits, but is really tight and digs in a bit at the shoulders, so only comfortable for 30mins or so. I then ordered a medium and love it! Can wear it for 2+ hours and it is still supportive without feeling like it’s digging into my shoulders. I wear it with adhesive nipple covers underneath & am ready for rehearsal!

Pretty! Medium size is good for 5’, but short for 5’3” girl.
This cotton leotard is pretty. My 11-year-old chose it by herself and love it. When we received it, she was 5ft and 80 lbs, and the medium size fit good. However, she grows 3 inches after 2 month. Then it becomes short in length and the shoulder stripes cut her shoulders and left red marks.Just FYI, medium size is good for 5 ft tall, but short for 5’3” tall. it is loose around breast and hip if around 80 lbs. You might want to sew a little to fit.

Lovely, nice detailing, sizing is WAY OFF, would recommend
As others have said, this leotard runs small – and moreover, the sizing chart is WAY off. I did some sleuthing through reviews and decided to try out a Large (I’m 5’7″, 122lb, and typically wear a size 0 pant, 2-4 dress, but am larger in the chest). This NEARLY fit me, but compared to another Capezio leotard (the Princess Camisole Leotard: http://www.amazon.com/Capezio-Womens-Princess-Camisole-Leotard/dp/B002XZMEKO), this one was a bit tighter in the chest and felt like it dug into my shoulders a bit more than the Princess Camisole cut. There’s a very fine line between “fits just right” and “too small” with leotards, and I opted for the Princess Camisole Leotard in Large. However, if you’re similar sizing, I would recommend you try out the large cause it was more or less a toss up between the two for me.As I really liked the style of this leotard, I also tried on the X-L and it was a little saggy in the bum and not tight enough around my torso.Great price, though, looks to be good quality, and the back detailing is lovely.

There’s a reason capezio is so popular. The fit is true, the material is correct, and the stitching is very durable. This is comfortable and my teen wore it for a few hours a day, 8 days straight without issue.

Runs small
Overall, it seems well made, but the lack of adjustable straps make this harder to rate higher. The straps hit toward the outside of the shoulder and are so tight they keep rolling over. I don’t know if it would help to size up since it was already a large.

Well-made leotard
Stretchy material, nicely constructed. Leotard runs a little small, at first, but the fabric stretches, so I think it’ll work well for my purpose. I ordered an Adult Large, as that’s been my usual size for dance costumes. 5’4, 135 lbs.

Pretty style on the back
My daughter really wanted this as it has a beautiful design on the back, but we ended up returning it. She tried on the Small which fit her perfectly, but the straps were a little tight and I was worried it would shrink and be uncomfortable since it’s mostly made of cotton. We sized up to a medium and that one didn’t fit as well as she has a short torso so the body felt long on her. Also, the bottom is cut a little short to her liking and the shelf bra had elastic on the bottom making it not as comfortable compared to ones by Bloch and Mirella. If Capezio can make their leotards with microlux and make some changes, they would be a keeper, but the other brands, I’m afraid, are much more comfortable.

Love it
*Overall, I recommend this but read it first! :)Okay so just for reference, I am 5’7 with a pretty athletic build, about 120 lbs, 26 inch waist, idk I wear like a b/c cup, and things are always sized on me weirdly. I got a size small, and I am happy with it.My only complaint is that the straps are indeed quite tight like everyone else was saying. I do have a long torso, so I usually size up so things will fit length wise but I stuck with the small because I wanted it to be flattering while performing! I’m glad I did. They just dig in a little and feel like they want to slide off bc they are so tight.I don’t super mind it though because it is flattering around the waist and it actually fits there. There is no gaping like I’m used to.It’s appropriate, as the legs aren’t too high cut. It isn’t cheeky at all, so I should be fine going into straddles upside down and whatnot.

Not sure what others are complaining about?
This arrived today for me. It’s part of my costume for halloween but will be used later when I start Circus Conditioning. Now I can see that others may find it small. I myself ordered the small and it was perfect for me but would be tighter on anyone heavier or bigger. I’m 5’4″ and weigh 110 lbs. It’s a beautiful leotard and good quality. I would recommend this but if you are at all concerned about size you may want to order up.

It’s very comfortable, I nearly don’t notice that I wear it
I normally wear S , so I bought it in this size. It’s very comfortable , I nearly don’t notice that I wear it! The only negative point: it’s a bit to small on my shoulders, so that it carves my shoulders a mite. Anyway it deserves 5 stars , for it’s beauty and comfort.

This is a leotard – always size up.
This is a leotard, so your usual size is not going to fit.. I am usually an XS but I wear a M in a Capezio leotard. It fit as I expected, but not my normal size. I had to go up 2 sizes and it fit perfectly.

Too small
I purchased a size small for my 13 year old daughter who is 5’1 and less than a 100 lbs, it was a snug fit even for her so have now placed an order for a medium which I hope won’t be too big! Judging by other reviews it obviously runs pretty small. When she tried it on it did look very elegant, the straps on the back give what could be a very plain looking leotard a nice finish.

Good product, sized wrong
I like this product for its quality and style.. Unfortunately I went by the size chart and am disappointed. I wear a size 4 normally, and I ordered a small leotard as reflected in the size chart, but it is much too small for my shoulders and bust. I usually have deep red lines in my shoulders after wearing it. I recommend going a size up if you are worried about a similar problem. It washes well and looks good, however.

Priced right. Torso is a tad short – wish I bought the large.
Daughter wanted a leotard for an audition that wasn’t plain or black. We ordered this, as it is different enough. The torso is a bit short for my 5″3″ daughter, but we kept the medium since she needed it on short notice. Next time will buy a large.

Good budget leotard.
It is a tad short. Granted, all dancers with long torsos are going to have trouble with leotards. Otherwise I like it. Very comfortable, the straps across the back are really lovely and the top stays on even through bending all over the place.

Careful with sizing
I’m usually a small in everything but with leotards I’m usually a medium. So I got the medium and it fit fine except for the straps on my shoulders, they felt really small and they kind of dig into my shoulders. Other than that it’s great.

Beautiful back detail
Beautiful back detail, but the bottom/seat are cut a bit strange. It’s a little low and quite a bit bigger than the top. They were completely baggy on my tall, thin daughter, so it may work better on someone with a rounder bottom.

Leo love
Nice, sturdy stretch cotton material. Straps are comfortable. Back detail is pretty. At 5’1″ and 103 lbs., the size Medium fit well. Have washed it once so far in the washing machine (in a lingerie bag), and the shape held up after hang-drying. I imagine it will withstand several washes with no issue. Look forward to wearing the new leo for ballet class.

I live in Capezio leotards. I am 5’8 and 111 pounds and while I generally wear a size small – in these I wear a Large. I recommend ordering two sizes up, although if you are not tall perhaps that is not necessary.

Not very much support, beautiful.
This leotard has double fabric in the front part which provides some support, not as much as other Capezio leotards that I have purchased, but the quality is marvelous, so great if you’re not very busty 🙂

Straps a bit tight.
I’m a 5’6″ woman with a 33-34″ bust and 25″ waist. I purchased a Medium. I find the fit good everywhere except in the straps, which are not adjustable. They are the slightest bit too constrictive, and dig a little into my collar bone and roll around. Next time, I will order a leotard type with adjustable straps.

Size up one or two larger
I read the reviews and sized up to a medium. However, I should have ordered a large. If you wear anything larger than a B cup, think about going up two sizes. The straps are not adjustable and therefore, dig in to your shoulders. I love the style and feel of this leotard, but will be reordering in a large.

Both Classy and Contemporary
Lovely leotard! Cotton, yet stretchy. Bra shelf will support if you buy a size that’s snug. I’m 5’6″”, 113 lbs. and the M fits perfectly. The back design with the cross straps is classy yet very contemporary. My only disappointment is that the legs aren’t cut higher. Bought in several colors.

Tight around the arms
I ordered a small and the fit was really nice but the straps were too tight they left me red marks and were unbearable over time. I wish the straps weren’t as unconformable because the leotard in general is very beautiful and if I were to size up the leotard wouldn’t have fit me.

Quality leotard, but the sizing didn’t work for me
Going by the size chart on their website, I ordered a size Large. I have a 33.5 high bust, 36 full bust, 30-31″ waist, and 42″ hips, and I’m a rather proportional 5′ 9″. The large is supposed to fit 36-38 bust, 28-30 waist, and 39-41 hips. It was much too small in every way (nothing raises the self esteem like trying on a too-small, very tight leotard!). The leotard was too short-torso’ed for me, and it was way too tight each measurement. The underarm area was the most unfortunate part of this, but the hips and the back cutout were a close second/third.Olympic gymnasts apparently have an average height of about 5′ 4″, and I’m definitely hippier and pear-ier than their size chart intends, and it showed. So if you’re built like me, go up at least one size.Four stars, because this seemed to be of the highest quality. The fabric wasn’t too thin or transparent, the seams were tough, and it generally was well-made. But I rely on the size guide, and it let me down. I sew a lot of my own clothes, so I take honest, accurate measurements, but the size chart is definitely not correct. Or maybe it’s correct for somebody built like a gymnast, who’s a Size Large of pure muscle, but oh man, not for me.

Simple, elegant, but your experience may vary with the design
I am becoming incredibly brand loyal to Capezio. Just like their other cotton blend leotards, I love that they’re soft and breathable, and in the darker colors are definitely flattering. I like that Capezio’s camisole leotards don’t feel like they’re going to fall off my shoulders, like some other brands do.I’m 5’1″ and generally an American size 2-4, but my broad shoulders and rib cage often mean that I need to go up in size in some shirts and dresses and have it taken in at the waist. This leotard seemed simple yet elegant, with a splash of character in the crisscrossing back design. On the model– who looks to have a tiny rib cage — this is beautiful! On me, the crisscross is.. well, a little less elegant, hence knocking off a star. If you have a narrow(er) rib cage, this will probably look lovely on you. I’m still going to wear the leotard — it fits according to the size guide (measurements– always measurements!) and the design doesn’t look bad, just not what I expected. You can certainly take a chance on this leotard but be aware that the design may not look quite like it does on the model.

Fits a long lean slightly pear shaped torso well
I got the black, white and light blue. The lighter colors show every contour (which is why dancers wear pink tights-so teachers can see which muscles students are working). I like that some of the leos have a shelf bra where it’s easy to tuck in a bra pad for modesty. I wish that were also the case with the white, but that one has full frontal lining.

Tight in the shoulders!
Cotton leotard are hard to come by!I kept this one because I needed it for fire dancing, but the straps are very tight and dig into my shoulders. I ordered both a Medium and a Small, and the tightness in the straps remained the same.I’m petite too, so this might be worse on an average sized person.

Way smaller than expected
I ordered a women’s small for my daughter who’s 5’1″ and 130 lb. That was way too short, like 4 inches too short, so I ordered a women’s large. That was still about 2 inches too short. Who fits into these?

straps easy to slip
No size chart (found the chart at other Capezio clothing). All Capezio Leotards we bought so far are running small. My 110lb girl needs to wear Women’s Large (according to chart, she’s between S and M).The straps are easy to slip from the shoulder (especially for a slim body) since they are widely apart. Won’t pick this style if not required by dance studio. Wearing bra & putting leo strap over bra strap will help from slipping. No other complaint.

Should have listened to the reviews!
The reviews are correct – the arm straps are WAY to small/short so they dig into your shoulders and armpits (if you can even get them on)The rest of the leotard fit great and seemed to be a great material, but it the arm straps were way too short. I would go up a size or choose something else

This is for all the tall ladies out there:
Just a heads up, I’m a tall lady. 5’9″, and about 135lbs and I ordered a large. As much as I love this leo and the beautiful back, I probably won’t be buying Capezio anymore. Though they are marketing to adults, I think you have to be short for these to fit right. Length wise, from crotch to shoulder, it fits okay. It is a little tight, but loosens while you dance. It’s big in the waist, though. It doesn’t hug my curves at all, and makes me look boy shaped. These are probably just the gripes of all tall people and leo’s everywhere. Washes great, can’t complain about that. Does excellent on the silks and lyra if you’re an aerialist – the tissu will not eat this guy! It can handle all the drops you can. Hope this helps!

Plain front but lovely back line. Ordered one size larger.
I’ve read a few reviews posted on Amazon and decided to order one size larger (L) than I normally wear (M). It fits quite well and doesn’t feel too big. I am stick to the cold water, hand wash with all my leo so I don’t expect the size will change much. Even with cold water, the color stains the water slightly. The leo is made of cotton with inner liner bra. I ordered the red color as I’ve had so many black leo. The front is pretty basic, I would love it more if it has a cinch up front. The back is really flattering. I got quite a few comments the first day I wear it. As it’s made of cotton, the color has a bit dullness when I open the package and doens’t have that BRAND NEW feel. But as a practice leo, it’s comfy and reasonably priced. I am rating it five stars for the price and for the daily class wear purpose, but for a more refined look, e.g. an audition, I will stick to the lycra material.

Straps are a big problem
The fabric is good, soft, and not see through. Unfortunately, the straps are VERY small and cannot be adjusted. They also do not stretch at all, so you can’t even pull them over your shoulders. I ended up discarding the item since I had already removed the tags.

Built to stay put!
This is the best-designed leotard I’ve ever worn. Usually when straps are not crossed at the back they slip off the shoulders. That’s not the case with this leo. It stays put and is flattering as well! Shelf lining is a plus. Love it!

Comfortable and flattering!
This is a very comfortable and flattering leo. I like the cut and the scrappy design at the back. The one thing I’m not a fan of and which prevents me from ordering more in other colors is the fabric. It’s cotton-y and for dancers who prefer that material, this is great. I prefer spandex-like material because my cat’s hair loves to cling to cotton and felt! This material also gets really soaked with perspiration and takes forever to dry.

Straps are short and dig into arms
I’m a huge fan of capezio leotards but this was just terrible, so unflattering. It was sliding off my shoulders and digging into my arms. The bust section was far too small despite the fact that area in me is small. So there was skin left out of the leotard. It’s a shame because the quality of fabric was great as expected! I’ll have to return

Great product!
I love, love, love this leo. It’s so business in the front, party in the back, and very flattering! I purchased it for a ballet class I am taking in college, and it’s just lovely. It’s comfortable, and the back is beautiful. I am 5’7″, 140lbs, and ordered a medium, which fits very well. except for the shoulders. I have somewhat broad shoulders though, and the only downside to this leo is that the straps twist around and leave marks on my shoulders.

Arm holes really small
I love this product as a whole, but the arm holes are really small and tight. I’m 5’6″ 130lbs and ordered a medium, fits great everywhere else. I even ordered a large after receiving the medium to see of it was looser on my shoulders and it still felt tight.

Fit a child nicely
I ordered an extra small for an 8 year old girl who needed coverage under a white dress. The straps remained hidden under straps at the shoulders with the help of bra keepers (they resemble adhesive bandages, and you tape the straps of the undergarment to the dress on the inside). This is well made, and fit fairly well (a little big in the back — she wore it again for dance class, and we tied a small ribbon to the straps across her back). She is tall and thin. I don’t know any woman small enough to wear this, but it was the right size for this little girl.

Smaller than you think!
Eh! I always wear small for everything so I got a small for this one too. But shoulder straps hurt me and there were lines after a ballet class. It’s not impossible to wear and dance but not that C comfortable. Be aware that this brand sizing is smaller. But I love the color and design on the back. The size is the only issue.

Okay so after I reading all the reviews for this leotard I was skeptical but bought it anyways. It definitely runs REALLY small. I wouldn’t say I’m tiny but I’m a size 26 in jeans and i’m about 5’5 and the Large fits absolutely perfectly. One of the reviews said hers didn’t come with the shelf bra but mine actually did. I would definitely recommend getting this leotard just make sure you get the right size. The back is really beautiful, thats pretty much the main reason why I bought it. I’m very happy with it and I’m thinking about getting another color 🙂
