Size small vs. size medium review…

I ordered these pants in both a size small and a medium. I had read mixed reviews about sizing for Columbia so here are my .02. The smalls were smaller than I anticipated based on reviews, however, they fit. There was a huge sizing gap between the small and medium. The mediums were enormous and literally falling off of me despite cinching the sizer all the way. I am 5’5″ and about 120 pounds with a mommy tummy, so to speak. My pants size is generally a size 4, depending on how the pants run. I kept the size small as they were comfortable without cinching at all. In contrast, I also ordered the Columbia Bugaboo pants and the fit and sizing is COMPLETELY different on that pair of pants- the size smalls were suffocating me. I hate when a company’s sizing varies so much from product to product.

Finally! True to size ski pants

Love these ski pants. Since they run true to size I should have ordered my usual size (L) but my experience with ski pants was that they ran small. Not these! I adjusted the waist tab to as small as they go and added my belt. These are XL, I should have ordered a L. But, now I can wear sweatpants or whatever I want underneath. Love the white color…think snow bunny!

    1X fits like an XL

Weight gain has made my XL Patagonia ski pants tight in waist and hips and a base layer makes them even tighter so I have to unzip them to bend down. Patagonia does not make women’s clothes larger than XL so I checked for Columbia on Amazon as I know they make bigger sizes. The waist and hips were a bit larger than my current XL pants, but not that much larger. But, the thighs were much tighter. You would think if the wait and hips are larger on a 1X so would the circumference of the thighs. I could not sit down due to the tight fit, and walking was uncomfortable. I tried them with my base layer and the waist and hips got a bit tighter as expected but the tightness on the thighs was even worse.

    Medium vs Small 5’4 130lbs

I purchased both medium and small, free returns. I ended up with the small. I am 5’4 130lbs. The smalls fit perfectly even with a thin thermal pant underneath. The upper leg was a little snug but still comfortable. The length was perfect, no dragging without boots on. If you like to have your pants a bit looser and thick thermals underneath I would purchase the mediums. The down fall of the mediums are the length, dragging without boots on, and there was, on me, a gab in the back of the pants that would not go away even with the velcro tabs pulled tight.

    Snow pant

These were purchased for a trip to South Lake Tahoe in January. They are beautiful, nicely made, sturdy, flexible, very warm, and fit like a glove. If you are just on the edge of the sizing, I would suggest buying the next size up for a better fit. Otherwise, they are really nice. Definitely recommend buying these.

    Plus size girls perfect snowpants!

I am a short plus size women and finding appropriate fitting snowboarding pants in near impossible. My self esteem reaches and all time low when I have to get new snow clothes so after reading the reviews on these I thought I would take a chance. And I’m so glad I did. Some review said that these rans on the small side so I ordered the 3x size instead of my normal 2x. Usually wear a size 16 to 18 in pants. These are a little big but have velcro straps to sinch in the waist that little extra bit with enough room to layer underneath. I am sooo thrilled to have found these before my family ski trip to tahoe this week!

Finally a quality snow pant for the curvy lady!

I am a short lady 5’3”, I typically wear a size 16W- I ordered these in the 2xl.Best fitting snowpants after a long search! They are bit on the roomy side (so probably perfect for the size 18w). But I’d rather some extra room when it comes to snow pants-What sold me is the waist has these great adjustable velcro tabs- so you can cinch up the waist for a perfect fit! Also has two snaps & zipper at the waist. The pants are smooth/clean without a “puffy” feel to them. The bottoms have the internal liner with an elastic rubber cuff- to ensure A good seal over your boot without slipping. A bit wider boot leg opening too. These are perfect for our Wisconsin winters, so happy with this purchase at such a reasonable price!

    Size up

After reading the reviews I was confused as to what size to get. Everyday clothes I’m about an 18/20 so I went with the 2x. They fit to a T….I had some slop in the leg area, but when I bend down there just isn’t enough fabric to make it comfortable, or to bend freely if you will. So I ordered the 3x which came today and are really big. I mean like I had them cinched as far as they could go, but I guess that’s what I wanted, room to move in the snow without any hindrance. So I’m keeping the 3x. I find the cut of these pants odd, they are like 70’s bell bottoms which I don’t like at all, but for the price I’m keeping them. I’m giving them 3 stars for the odd fit and the funny way they are cut on the bottom. I’m looking forward to trying them out in a month or so when it’s cold and seeing how they hold up in the MN winters.

    RUNS SMALL

Definitely recommend sizing up one size. I usually would wear a size small, but the Small is very tight in the thighs and waist. Returning them for a Medium unfortunately.

    Too Small.

They seem to be good quality and they kept me warm for the minute I tried them on, but they are way too small. I’m a 10, sometimes a 12 in pants, I ordered the Large and they would barely go up my legs and there was no way that the waist would close. Length was great (I’m 5’7″). They also seem to pick up lint very easily. I tried them on (sort of) and already had lint and dog hair on the outside and I don’t really have dog hair in my house. Anyway… I’m reordering in a larger size.

    As Advertised – Great deal!

These fit me as expected. I’m a pretty standard size small (usually a size 3 or 4) and the size small fit great with a lil bit of room in the waist. Compared to other ski pants I’ve owned recently, I would say they’re a lil straighter leg with more space in the waist – which was what I was looking for. For a ski boot, they’re a lil snug at the bottom- I could get over my boot, but just barely (they do open at the bottom/snap – so wouldn’t be a functional issue – but more of a style thing if you didn’t like snug over your ski boot/or pulled up over the boot, as some are wearing now days!). I wore them skiing and was plenty warm with just a base layer/3 + hours (just below freezing – can’t say for deep freeze weather just yet). These were significantly cheaper and I liked just as much as North Face /Stio ones I’ve owned recently.

    Nice snow pants

Nice snow pants, look well made. I wear a 18/20 from Lane Bryant, I bought a 2X and they were small, They went on, no problem, I didn’t have on long johns or leggings, just panties, but I couldn’t snap & zip them, so returned them. I re-ordered a 3x, and it fits good. They look like snow pants, NOT flattering, especially when you are fluffy to begin with, and I would recommend a long sweater or tunic top. They 3X were a little big in the waist, so I synched them in, with the inside Velcro at the waist. it is very similar to little kids pants, where you can pull them tighter at the waist. All is good. They do make the swoosh sound when you walk. They will fit fine in the pant length with snow boots on. I recommend buying them. But feel you should buy a size up.

    Worked well.

I have taken them skiing once, and they were great! They have velcro inside so they can adjust to fit your waist, which is essential in ski pants since you may not always be wearing the same thing underneath, or maybe if your weight just fluctuates a bit between seasons they will still fit. I like the zippered pockets where I can tuck something that is not too bulky, like my ID and health insurance card, which I like to have on me in case of accident. Aside from that, these pants have everything you want in ski pants. They are waterproof, warm, and have elastic inside the leg to secure tightly around the outside of ski boots to keep snow from getting inside. These run a little bit large, but honestly they fit about the same as most other ski pants I have tried on do. They are long on me when I am just standing around in them, but once I put on ski boots the length doesn’t matter.I noticed when reading reviews of many different pairs of snow pants that people sometimes claim that they run large, and then talk about how they just wanted some warm pants to walk their dog in when it is snowing or something. These are designed to fit over another pair of pants or bulky long underwear and a big pair of ski boots. They are probably going to seem too big if you are looking for something to wear while you are just walking around outside. Someone somewhere probably makes a pair of pants that would work better for that. I wouldn’t recommend these.

    Perfect Fit and Construction!

I am 5’3 and 120 lbs – I have a pretty athletic build so my legs are muscular but not excessively so. Not what you’d consider lean though. I absolutely loved these pants. I purchased them in black in an extra small and the fit was great!I was in the chart measurements so waist 25 and hips 35. I would still be able to wear thick leggings underneath and ski comfortably. There was some space around the waist, which goes up high to the top of the belly button, but other than that, it was perfect at my hips and thighs. I’m not a huge fan of the waist adjustments – they’re in the back and inside the pant rather than in the front and outside as I’m used to. Not a big deal though. My body type is short torso and longer legs so length is perfect for me in ski boots and would probably work for someone up to 5’5 depending on their inseam. I would definitely recommend following the size chart. The cut was flattering and comparable to soft shell, much more expensive ski pants. They have a decent amount of insulation but look less bulky than my pair of North Face Freedom pants that have less padding (perhaps due to color). Still, for $44, it really doesn’t get any better!

    Good quality, not too long

I’m 5’3, 130lbs, petite build, with a little extra weight on my belly from having kids. I bought a size small and these pants fit great! I was worried that these pants would be too long since I’m short, but they fit great with my snow boots on. I haven’t worn these in the snow yet, but they seem great quality and are comfy. I’ve always been happy with the Columbia brand. Worth the money spent!Update: I wore these in the snow and I was warm, dry, and comfortable!

I love the buttons and velcro for extra security and the …

I saw where most buyers said these pants can run large or small… I’m 5’9 and I ordered a size up and they are snug in the waist. They are “ok” on the length, they will work for their intended purpose but normally I prefer a little more length to my pants. That being said, these pants have kept me blissfully warm and dry. Lots of walks in a harsh winter and trudging through the snow with a 6 month old puppy… and they have done their job thus far. I love the buttons and velcro for extra security and the deep zippered pockets.

    Well made…

Really great well made ski pants. Unfortunately I am in between sizes. At 5’3” 210# I’m inbetween the 1x and 2x. The 1x fit in the waist but way to tight on hips and thighs. The 2x fit in hips and thighs but way to big in waist. The waist does have adjustable Velcro to cinch it tighter, but it still gapped in the back for me. I’m still pondering if I should just keep the 2x or not. I have found any that fit in the ski shops…so this may be the best I can get.

    Good for hiking/backpacking in snow/rain!

I’m a tall, hefty hiker & backpacker. These waterproof snow pants are partially lined and are a perfect pant for snow and rain. They are comfortable and warm (they also rub & swish-swish). The pants fit in an outside backpack pocket. They are not UL (614 g = 1.3 lb) but roll up nicely.

Purchased my size and it is a bit snug due to the type of material. Wish size ranges were a little more inclusive. I have used them in the snow and rain and they are very warm and seem to be perfectly waterproof. They are pretty lightweight and easy to move in.

    Way too small!

I’m 5’4″ and weigh about 145 pounds. I normally wear a size 8, so ordered the medium pants (my old ski pants are North Face size small and sadly, I’m not the same size I was 10 years ago….).I could barely get these pants on over leggings and couldn’t button them at all, even with the velcro straps inside open to expand the waist band fully.I’ve ordered a large and hope it will fit.

    Instantly Warm!

When these came in the package, I thought they must be the wrong thing. They looked SO small and thin. I put them on and was instantly surprised. I ordered a size up, so they can go over my clothes – that is a little large, but I think the better move than ordering your regular size – they do have belt loops so you could keep them from sliding down. Traveling to Montana in November and looking forward to getting use out of these!

    Not the same

I’m used to trusting Columbia for quality winter gear, and these were a severe disappointment. They are so thin it almost looks like a Halloween costume version of ski pants. I bought a size up and they fit… barely, but I’m not expecting them to do much in terms of keeping me warm on the slopes. Considering the price point, this is more than just a fat tax; it’s really disappointing to see this from a company I’d expected much better from.

    A bit long for me

Purchased in case another one didn’t fit. Love Columbia products. This was a bit too long for me. I’m 5’4 and 165-170lbs, besides it being slightly too long I think they would fit over ski boots perfectly. Returned because I wasn’t going to use them. No other reason.

I knew they would not be flattering but I was happy with the fit

Let’s face it, I knew they would not be flattering but I was happy with the fit. I tried them on with leggings underneath as I knew I’d need another layer and they fit no problem. I was most surprised about the length, i’m 5ft 4 and most items like this would be ridiculously long but they actually seem to be the perfect length. I’m currently wearing size 16 jeans and ordered the 2x. There is a lot of room in the waist but there are velcro straps to adjust the waist so i’d rather have them be too baggy then tight. They are fully lined and I can tell they will be super warm when I’m up on the mountain. Thrilled with my purchase.

Great fit for a curvy girl!!

Got these pants in today and they fit so perfectly!! I’ve always hated buying snow pants because my hips could never fit into anything and if they did the waist was huge and the legs were giant! I bought a 2x and they fit my hips perfectly. The waist is a little big but the pants have an adjustable waistband with Velcro. The legs are great because they are slimmer than most snow pants I can wear so I don’t feel huge and bulky. I am 5’5″ and they are going to be the perfect length when I get boots on. My hip measurements are around 52″ and I have a smaller waist. I usually wear jeans size 31-32 and these snow pants fit me great! Can’t wait to try them out this weekend!!

    Size Up

I was really excited for these but they were too tight in the hips/butt area. If you have hips or curves I would recommend sizing up one or even two. I was going to use these for snowboarding and having to sit and bend a lot would be uncomfortable. Seemed to be nice quality though.

    Waist runs small

I am 5’7″ – 170 lbs, ordered a large. Legs and butt fit fine, waistband however, way too small. It’s not an elastic waistband. I’d consider going up a size but it looks like then, the butt and legs will be way too big. Going back. Overall though, the quality is there: well made and look great.

    Good snow pants

I’m 5′ 4″ at 150 lbs size 10-11. They fit just right everywhere except they dragged a bit when not in ski boots. I just folded them a bit and it was fine. The only think I really didn’t care for was that the color wasn’t really like the picture. They look like a vivid periwinkle color in the picture, In real life they’re a bit on the duller side. But overall they did the trick. I was comfortable and warm and dry during my ski trip. See picture : )

So Warm & Comfy…Perfect for Outdoor Winter Sports

I wear a size 20 and bought a 3x due to all of the reviews stating to order a larger size. I could have easily fit very comfortably into a 2x. That being said….they are still very comfortable, and amazingly warm. I have lived all of my adult life without snow pants….and can’t believe its taken me this long to try some. What a revelation I’ve had…..I am able to stay out in sub-zero temps in Northern Wisconsin, snowshoeing for hours, and enjoying myself completely. These pants are very lightweight, not bulky at all, and allow full range of motion. They are also very soft & squishy, not stiff, or rough. I love these pants….they almost make me wish for a very late Spring…almost 🙂

Size small is too small, but the thickness is good for winter sports

I had to return these in the size small for a medium. I am 5’4″ and about 135 pounds and the smalls were too tight in the waist and butt. The mediums were a little big in the waist, not so big that they were uncomfortable, and a little long. However, with a base layer and snowboard boots on the medium fit fine. The thickness of these pants is good for winter sports. I have Prime and was able to overnight the size medium for only a few dollars and returning the size small was easy.

    The color was great

I dislikes the way the pockets are not sideways, is more like interiorized toward the abdomen and when I bend if I have something in it, it wont allow me to bend freely. Pockets should be at the side to place your phones or keys to bend without having to worry it hurts or having to take them out to bend properly.

Not a heavy duty snow pant.

Have to say I was disappointed in these snow pants. For the money I expected so much better. In the old days when you bought a snow pant it was thick and warm. It is a very thin layer pant. Just can’t see how it is going to keep you warm mid 20s weather. I wore them to walk my dog. I put insulated underwear on and another fleece lined stretch pant underneath the pant. It was a bit windy and about 25 degrees. It did keep the wind out but not very warm. They are way over priced on this pair pf snow pants. Not worth more than 40.00. I bought a 40.00 pair and they are about the same. Just a bit better quality. I would recommend not to buy them if your looking for warmth because these are not it.

The pants were not the size that they advertised. I’m a M in everything and I couldn’t even get these over my hips. If you have any hips at all, it’s not going to be a good fit. There was also no stretch. Unfortunately did not work for me.

    Finally a FIT for a plus/athletic fit!

I ordered these pants for my upcoming ski trip, and I had gained a few pounds since our last trip. I am 5’7″, 270 lbs, and athletic built (straight and box-like). I have a 49″ waist, and 51″ hips. I normally wear an 18W in pants, however, I learned long ago that in ski clothing, your self esteem goes right out the window, as you normally have to “size up” anywhere from 4-8 sizes! I have no idea why the industry can’t make clothing that fits the same way regular clothes do, but I digress. In the past, I have ordered men’s pants, and although they fit around the waist, they were tight in the butt and legs, as men’s shapes are a bit different. This year, I was determined to find a pair that would fit me everywhere. I measured myself several times and spent days shopping the internet for pants that I thought would fit, and I didn’t hold out much hope for these just because from past experience, it usually doesn’t work. Plus, the sizing guides for these pants indicated that I would need a size 4X??? So, I held my breath and said a prayer. The pants came today with fast shipping, and I just tried them on, and, they fit!! I even have room to spare!!! Great fit in the butt and thighs, so I can bend over and stretch with no buttons popping open. There is a velcro piece beside the snaps, which is a nice addition and keeps things closed. The white color is beautiful, and the length is perfect (I wear a regular size inseam). The pants are somewhat thin, compared to some of the bulkier pants that I’ve worn, but there is plenty of room for a base layer(s) if you need it. Honestly, I love skiing, but always dread it because I can never find comfortable clothes, and I am so happy that I purchased these. Now I can enjoy my trip!! Here we come, Big Sky, Montana!!

I am 5’10” and 220+ lbs and most Columbia is long/tall enough as is meaning I don’t have to get a tall sized item. The inseam on these pants and the rise were perfect. I did find, I had to size up, though. These pants are not as true to size as other Columbia brand items like jackets, vests etc.

So happy to finally have pants that fit me.

I’m a bigger girl and always have issues getting pants and always thought I would never find snow pants that would fit me until I got these. They fit great and look great. We were going to ice castles in upstate NY and it was supposed to be super cold. These worked great and I wore them everyday while walking around in the snow. Thank you for fitting us bigger girls, we want to play in the snow too.

Summer is the perfect time to buy winter gear!

I’m normally a US women’s size 14. My measurements are 40 x 33 x 44. I am 5’10”, 180 lbs. I ordered a size XL. They fit fine.Pros: Cheap name brand because it’s summer! Elastic cuffs.Cons: no velcro adjustability on the waist like my other pair of snow pants. They seem as heavy duty as my tried and true pair so while it’s currently summer, I am confident they’ll be good in the winter. My other pair are Arctix brand and I paid $42 for those back in February 2021. As opposed to the $65 for these Columbia. Name brand, so I expected the cost.

    Exactly what I wanted

I was looking for a pair of insulated outdoor pants to take my dog out in the cold weather. They arrived today and I tested them out right away. These are great – medium weight, insulated snow pants. Not too heavy; pockets for your phone or keys. Great price too! Everything I was looking for.

    A little ill-fitting

These pants fit a little odd. The legs and front feel tighter than expected, but the back of the waist is baggy. You can fix the bagginess by using the Velcro straps on the inside. I would size up if you want a more relaxed fit. I usually wear L-XL (14-16 in US sizes) depending on the brand and I ordered an XL and it was a bit snug. I wish I had gone with a 1X so I could wear layers underneath. Also the legs are a tad on the long side and I have a 32″ inseam, so this wouldn’t work well for shorter people. I think these will work okay for walking around or skiing, but it’s uncomfortable to sit in these because the fabric is tighter in the front.

    Size up

Smallest medium i have ever worn. Overall its good quality, but I would definitely recommend sizing up esp if you are on the cusp of a size. Color also didnt match the accent blue on my columbia jacket. That may be my fault, but if you want matchy matchy definitely check the names of the blues. Nice design.

    Runs small

I am a size 10-12 and ordered a large. They were super tight in waist and hips. Order up a size. Did not wear so cannot speak to warmth or waterproof.

    Fits perfect for me

These are Columbia ski pants with snaps so great quality as expected. I’m usually 115-120 and at 122 now these fit perfect. I’m 5’3” and with ski boots or reg boots, again, perfect. I feel like if I gained even a little more they would not fit. I feel confident if I lose a few they will still fit. My bottom is not flat but also not where I hold my weight which is definitely in the middle. Hope this helps you choose a size!!!!

    Runs small!

Drove faraway to 2 different Columbia stores and both had plus size jackets but no pants. I am 5’7 and normally wear a size 20/ or 2x in clothes. I found a plus pair at Dick’s in 2x and the hip thigh area was super tight, I felt if i bent over on the slopes the pants would split. I went to the Columbia website and they couldn’t offer any shipping earlier than a week and the pants were $115-$130. Thank goodness for Amazon!I ordered the 3x and got them in two days and about $50 cheaper ! They fit perfect! I would definitely order a size up, the waist on the inside is adjustable if you need to tighten them also. I think the only difference between these and the ones on the Columbia website are the pockets, there are no rear pockets on these ones.

Good Fit for bigger gal, waterproofing could be improved

So far, so good with these snow pants. They are the perfect fit. I am 5’7″, 250 lb, 40in waist, 46in hip. I am able to fit a pair of leggings for extra warmth underneath. I am only giving 4 stars for the water proofing. These are not fully waterproof, but they are water resistant. They did well just being in the snow, but when I sat on a snowy bench after 20 minutes I started to feel the wet snow seep through a bit.

I received them Saturday morning (did I mention how much I LOVE Prime shipping

I’m 5’3″, 230 lbs. and normally wear a size 18-20. I ordered these in the 3X after reading the reviews…I was torn between the 2x or 3x, but was ordering on a Thursday and needed them by Saturday (love Amazon Prime shipping) and the 2x was out of stock so the decision was made for me. I received them Saturday morning (did I mention how much I LOVE Prime shipping?!!!) and immediately tried them on. The waist was big, but they have an adjustable waistband so I was able to tighten them and the waist is now perfect. They are too long on me, but I expected that as most pants are unless I order a petite. They are VERY loose in the caboose and sag quite a bit in the crotch, but not so much that I won’t wear them. I would rather they be a little big than too small and uncomfortable, and they do leave plenty of room for layering. Overall, I think the 2x would’ve been a better fit but am happy with the purchase.
