Overall good quality but… All knives don’t fit in storage block. Storage block is one slot short to hold them all.

They’re good for the price
We’ve been using the knives, spatulas, and measuring spoons for about 8 months now. I have had no problem with the measuring spoons (those are great!), however, we have broken 2 spatulas. They seem fairly cheap and are pretty rigid plastic so they don’t bend easy. As for the knives, a few are developing rust spots, and the knives cut back! If you put your index finger on top of the knife to give you more leverage, you will get cut. The tops are very sharp so be careful! Other than that, the knives work well and are sufficiently sharp.

Manufacturing defect and poor customer support – I’m disappointed
I’ve been trying to get a simple knife set for months… I settled on this one because it’s affordable and had a lot of great reviews. I went through hell before ordering these with another knife set from another company… So I was excited to finally have knives in my house to cut some freaking vegetables. The unboxing went great, the knives had no visible imperfections. They’re plastic handles and they feel kind of cheaply made, but I expected that because of their affordability. Overall it’s a nice set and I was excited to use it! I put all the knives in the block with no issue, until I tried to put the chef knife in its compartment. There’s some kind of blockage keeping me from putting the knife in its space. I was a little bummed, and I tried to contact their customer support so I could make a warranty claim because they promise returns and replacements on all manufacturing errors. They have a number to call for “customer support” that’s just a phone menu with no option to talk to a person. The only option you have is to go to their website and talk to “an agent” there, or submit a ticket there with your issue. It seems like nothing can go right! Now I’m waiting for their support team to reach out to me and ask me a bunch of questions to make sure that I didn’t cause the defect. Then HOPEFULLY I’ll be able to send the defected set back and get one that works. I’m disappointed and tired of having to jump through so many hoops just to get a $17 knife set, but I really can’t afford to lose that money right now. I’ll update my review with how things go once this is settled.

Usable first knife set
If you can afford the few extra dollars to buy the Amazon basics set I would advise you to do so. If you can’t, which was my financial situation when I first bought these, don’t expect the world. I’ve had them for nearly two years so I think I can comment on their performance. They’re a usable set best suited for college students, first time renters, or people who cook just on occasion. You’ll never need to sharpen them because they arrive dull and always will be so (you’ll never have to worry about losing a fingertip.) I didn’t experience rusting until I threw them in the dishwasher, but I did so not particularly caring if they did happen to as I could scrub it off with a metal sponge. The steak knives do their job with little fanfare. The chefs knife, paring knife, and bread knife are far too dull to do anything other than look pretty in the block. The scissors are decent as kitchen scissors–NOT shears. Otherwise you may end up like the reviewer who managed to break theirs. The real gem in this set is the santoku. I regularly use the santoku for most of my chopping needs and it performs pretty well. As long as you keep in mind that these knives aren’t full tang and will snap at the joints if you apply a lot of pressure, you’ll be fine.

Words from the care instructions of the knives, but I tell you what they are amazing. I got this with a combo package of this set with lidded pots and pans. I am giving it 4 stars though for those that were looking for dishwasher safe knife set; they are not dishwasher safe. Sharp on arrival.

Almost perfect.
Almost perfect, except for the flimsy rubber spatulas. Those suck. Broke all 3 within a month. Otherwise, great knife set and storage block. Would benefit from a knife sharpener on the storage block, but a good starter set for anyone in need.

Get Er done
Don’t get me wrong, I use these every day. I have a couple of expensive knife sets that I didn’t want to use daily. If I got these as a gift, it would be for a college student. It works as a first knife set. They do the job. When I need something heavy or challenging, I switch to another set. This is good for daily cooking but not for the chef experience. If you are a very serious and conscientious cook and need your food to look professional, get a different set. If it doesn’t really matter how perfect your cuts look, this set works just fine. There are a few knives in this block that do better than the rest for presentation though. I do appreciate the rubber scrapers, I bake a lot and just never seem to have enough of those. The measuring spoons were good to have also. Oh, I LOVE the kitchen scissors!

DO NOT BUY IT
this purchase is not worth the money you spend.the steak knives are not sharp, I have been using just two of them and not even touching the other ones. and after 2-to 3 times try, I am not even using them anymore. they won’t even cut APPLE!!!!!!!!! can you believe it?Santoku knife is good and comfortable enough to work with, BUT, even if I hand wash them and dry them instantly because I wanted them to last long, it has gotten some BLACK STAINS on it.I have seen all these signs pretty much almost 2 weeks after I bought them, but now it is so frustrating, I am not even using them and they are just sitting in the kitchen.I figured to just leave a review, and warn other people to DO NOT BUY it.

For the money it’s a solid set! You’re not going to impress anyone but it’s good enough
So you may have searched for ‘knife set in block’, arranged by price and this was one of the first couple. And you might think “Well does it suck?” There’s a couple poor reviews buried in here saying these knives aren’t even sharp and can’t cut any better than butter knives. That is definitely not my experience. They are not GREAT knives but they certainly cut, and for my little needs – things like I need to cut some cheese or some bread or dice up some chicken – they’re fine! If you’re a super cook who does half an hr of prep before every meal you might want something a little more higher grade but for Joe Average they’ll do. And at the price point they are a steal. The scissors that came with the set are just super super excellent by the way, probably separately a pair of scissors like that would be 8 bucks by themselves

Great knife set for the price
I have owned a set of these Farberware knives that lasted me many years, now time for a new set as one knife just broke. The other knives are still in great shape. A couple of steak knives have gone missing over time with moving, so I wanted a nice new set. Overall, I like this new set very much, BUT, the quality on a few of the items is not as good as it was on my original set which happens when companies cut corners to save money so the updated products. Here are some issues I found: The Boning shears are not as good quality as original. The handle feels cheap and they don’t seem as sturdy. Not sure if they will handle boning a chicken or any other very well may hurt hands. I am keeping my original shears as they are much better and still in great shape. The Bread Knife has been replaced with a slicing knife. The bread knife was a great knife to have and to do away with it for a slicing knife (which I am guessing means bread BUT they cannot call it a bread knife any more as the edge is NOT serrated like a true bread knife (The original was and it was amazing so I am keeping the original). And, the Santoku knife is not slightly rounded like a real Santoku blade normally is, the blade is completely flat and doesn’t seem to have the stay sharp edge so I will wait and see how that lasts or if will be hard to use due to shape and if will need sharpening. But, overall.. Nice to have a fresh set of knives. I don’t think people would notice the small issues I have if they never owned the original set. The original set had a nice oval stainless steel plate with the name Farberware on it too, which shows that the quality and workmanship on these knives has diminished over time. Regardless, I still definitely recommend this set. Worth every dollar!

Great Starter Kitchen Knife Set
The value on this set of knifes is really good. They are well made with non-slip plastic handles and you get a number of accessories in the set. How did Farberware do it and make the price point? Two ways: the included knife block is rough finished and the knives are of a higher gauge (thinner) metal so they do not have the heft of a substantial higher grade knife. The weight of a knife can make a difference to someone with more experience and let the weight of the blade do some of the work. Not the case with these. But they are sharp, they cut well and clean easily. If you need a comprehensive set of knives now and on a budget, this is a great choice.

IT IS A GREAT STARTER SAT OF KNIVES—VERY GIFTABLE–GOOD QUALITY
IT IS A GOOD KNIFE SET FOR SOMEONE WHO DOESN’T WANT TO SPEND ALOT OF MONEY. THEY ARE A STURDY AND BALANCED KNIFE SET WITH UTILITY SCISSORS AND A NICE WOODEN BLOCK TO STORE THEM. WE HAVE USED OUR SET ALOT IN THE PAST YEARS AND THEY ARE AS SHARP AS WHEN WE PURCHASED THEM. THEY WERE REASONABLY PRICED. THEY ARE GREAT GIFTS TO PEOPLE WHO ARE JUST STARTING OUT OR MOVING ON. THEY LOOK LIKE MORE EXPENSIVE SETS I HAVE SEEN ONLINE. WITH ALL THIS SAID I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE SET!

nice but perhaps flimsy
This is a nice knifeset with block. It looks good, is sharp and has a few accessories. The bread knife works well, I tested it out on a freshly baked whole grain loaf of bread and it cut great. So do others. However one of the paring knives already broke after less than a month (the handle seperated from the blade) while chopping some veggies so my husband wondered about the quality and workmanship… I like Farberware this is our second set but it should be more sturdy. So buy with caution, you do get a lot of knives so its a good value even after one loss but it may point towards potential flimsiness. When we first got them my husband commented on their sharpness and they passed his test then.Update: it is April 2013 now, so we had it for a while. After another breaking of a knife and the block also got a small crack in the wood fairly soon after the purchase, the set continued to last without any further issues. The knives are not the best quality I think in comparison to a more expensive set but most of them are still useful, the bread knife comes in very handy for me and is a solid performer. I also use the included kitchen shears frequently and they seem of good quality. The steak knives are operational. Some more are pretty good. I would like sharper cutting knives for veggies in the set but I have some from another purchase. If you are on a budget, need a starter set and are not overly critical this is ok. What I do is I use this in conjunction with some additional knives I have. If this were my only set of knives I think it would be less satisfactory. But it is now holding up without any further incidents and it lasts.

You get what you pay for
Since historically Farberware has been associated with pretty decent quality, I was surprised at the cheesiness of this item. It looks cheap, the knives are “thin”. I will give it a chance and if I find that the knives are good quality, I will come back and edit my review, but for now, 1st impression, I wish I could return it, but it’s not worth the trouble.

Cheap Knife Set — It’s.. OK-ish. But you get what you pay for.
I only paid $20 for this knife set, so I really can’t complain too much. If I had paid more, I’d give a much lower rating than 3 stars. Simply put: If you need a cheap knife set for the kitchen, that’s mainly for cutting the occasional steak and meats– it’s decent. The spatulas are flimsy plastic garbage, and the measuring spoons.. who really cares. The scissors are decent- for like, wrapping gifts or cutting– paper? The knives aren’t very versatile though. I’ve found that they’re decently sharp, and I’d mostly recommend them for steak and meat, like I said. They’d be ok for that. (I cut some ham up real nice, for what that’s worth.) I wouldn’t really recommend the knives for chopping larger veggies or dicing onions, or much of anything else. They’re all kind of cheap plasticky-feeling. For $20 I’m not mad. They’ll do for simple kitchen cutting. But if you’re even kind-of-a-cook I’d recommend spending a little more money for a hardier, more versatile set of knives. If you want cheap and simple, for steak, ham, and celery, go ahead– if you want something more rugged, versatile, and reliable for the kitchen, spend a little more on a better knife set.

I was profoundly disappointed with this set. Normally this brand makes some pretty great stuff, but pretty much everything in this set is useless. The spatulas aren’t heat safe and pretty much all of the knives can’t cut anything cleanly (seriously, my normal dinner knives can cut an apple 10x better than the “chefs” knife, and don’t even get me started on the bread knife). The cutting board is alright, as are the measuring spoons, but they aren’t enough to save this set from how unusable the knives are.

Okay Quality
I got it on sale for $20 so it’s hard to complain but the quality is just ok. Chef knife had ridges on it (which is very odd) and the knives weren’t built well. Felt like they’d fall apart after a year or so of use but I couldn’t tell. Ended up returning it so your mileage may vary but I was looking for something a bit higher quality

It’s ok besides the random serrated areas on most knives
As long as everything in the set is exactly what your looking for, it’s good. But I personally was disappointed because I didn’t see that they all had random serrated areas on all of the knives besides one. I had this for over a year and mainly used the non serrated knife, and for the most part is was sharp enough to use throughout that year

a little weird but doable
Yes, there are 22 pieces to this set. Each of the individual measuring spoons count as a piece. The block is smaller than I anticipated, but again, not that big of a deal, since it is for a condo so it will take up less space. The knives seem sturdy, but are very light. Again, it is a bargain price, so as long as they cut – they do what they were intended for. But what is weird is that there is one too few slots in the block. Some reviews say there is an extra knife. It is not extra- the description says 22 pieces. That knife makes it 22 pieces, but there isn’t a slot for it. Why not just make the block have one more slot?

This is a Great Brand Just A One Off
I don’t like leaving bad reviews for anyone. The brand has been around forever. I remember seeing this brand in grocery stores since I was in high school, plates, knife holders etc. I reliable brand. But in this case, the item was assembled upside down and the glue came separated from the base. I would like to think that this was a one-off. Always check the product because I put this away as a gift and was reminded later about the return window.

Errors
I haven’t used the knives much yet but out of the package there are a few things wrong. First of all, due to a cutting error in the wooden block, the largest knife does not fit. Also, when the knives rub the edge of the slot going in and out, it leaves wood residue on the blades. Rinse before using, I guess. Also I was given an extra steak knife. Nice but why? And where do I put it?It’s obvious that this is a cheap, slapped together product. But I’m still going to give it a chance because I’m on a tight budget and if the knives can cut things that’s good enough.
