Tubing does not work.
I bought this kit because it says FoodSaver kit for ALL FoodSavers! The white lids work fine but the tubing ends are not for “all FoodSavers” like the description says. If you look at the ends, they are the same shape. My FoodSaver model FM2900 sold at probably all Costcos, require one end round and one end oval. This needs to be fixed. I see others offered with a few different options, for other food saving systems. But if I buy one that says FoodSaver, and that is the brand I want, that’s what I should get, one that works on all their machines or include other tubing with the different ends.

Slightly Disappointed
I was really looking forward to being able to vacuum seal foods in my mason jars. I am disappointed that the supplied vacuum seal hose connection does not fit the accessory port on my new Food Saver FM2900. In order to use this jar sealer I would have to take apart the hand held bag sealer that came with my Food Saver and use that hose. I don’t want to have to keep taking that apart and risk something happening to it. I wonder if there is another accessory hose available that would fit?

Work Good
The regular mouth seal isn’t the greatest but my wide mouth is awesome. We use all the time for our freeze dried produce.

Great when it works!
I removed the blue gasket a time or two and it worked more often that way vs having it on there.

Works GREAT with my Excalibur Dehydrator!
I have an Excalibur vacuum sealer which didn’t come with the jar sealer accessories. I was afraid this might not fit the opening for ‘Accessories’ but it does. I’ve had 3 FoodSaver vacuum sealers over the past 10 years and all of them stopped suctioning air from the bags so I wasn’t able to vacuum seal bags any more. They seemed to work with jars but not bags. They were difficult to use after a while so I had to tweak & twist & maneuver the bags to try to get them to suck the air out so that I could store the food safely. I baby my appliances and take very good care of them so after the third FoodSaver broke down I finally got fed up with the brand and switched to Excalibur. The only problem was that even though I still had the vacuum lids & hose from the FoodSaver, I wasn’t sure they would fit my Excalibur but they do and I’m thrilled. It seems to pretty much be a generic hose that should fit most brands of vacuum sealers. Unfortunately after I got my Excalibur I couldn’t find the lid sealers or hose that went with the FoodSaver so I ordered these new ones and was relieved that they fit. (I also found the old ones right after I ordered these new ones – of course. One can be guaranteed to find the ‘lost’ ones as soon as you order replacements, right?) Anyway, I now have 2 sets of these lids & hoses which I’m going to keep….just in case I lose one or it breaks down & won’t work anymore. However I don’t expect that to happen even though the FoodSaver products are mostly plastic. My Excalibur sealer is stainless steel and very well built whereas the FoodSaver ones were plastic that just didn’t hold up so I was fearful that the FoodSaver lids and/or hose might break down when used with the stronger suction force of the Excalibur but so far they’re holding up beautifully. I would recommend these lids & hose without reservation….they do the job very, very well!

Now I can seal the herbs for later use
I have wanted to bottle the herbs for storage but did not have the attachment and thought there was no way to find the right equipment since my FoodSaver is no longer sold. Success came from reading on a blog how another person was able to do what I wanted to do, so I followed his footsteps and am now sealing this year’s herbs from my garden for storage. I have also labeled each bottle with the herb name, and the date the herbs were collected and dried in the proper manner this year. I can identify the herb by name even if visual recognition isn’t always possible.

Wrong hose
The device works wonderfully. However, the wrong hose was sent. My food saver has a hose with a green connection at one end and a gray connection at the other. The hose included with the device has gray at both ends. It would not seal to the food saver vacuum device. Luckily, I still had the hose from the original purchase of the food saver.
A Must have if you want to preserve food for the future…I love mine..Be sure you purchase one to go with your food saver machine –

*3.5 stars* Wide mouth works great, regular mouth is ok
The sealing that this facilitates on mason jars is great. Items stay so much fresher when this is used either by itself or with an O2 absorber. The wide mouth sealer works extremely well. It seals multiple jars well and without issues. Unfortunately, as other reviewers have indicated, the regular mouth is problematic. The regular mouth sealer does seal jars well also but you have to play with it a bit. And the blue gasket/sealer comes loose from the hard plastic piece every single time I seal a jar. So, I want to seal regular mouth jars? I have to get it to seal first (not always easy), release it from the jar (also not always easy) and then replace the gasket, that ALWAYS comes off, just right to get it ready for the next jar. If I want to seal 10-12 jars? I have to repeat this process 10-12 times. NO exception to this process. You have to do this EVERY SINGLE TIME. 5 stars for the wide mouth sealer, 2 stars for the regular mouth sealer-3.5 stars overall.Sooooooo, wide mouth fantastic, regular mouth works but is a pain to use. Fyi, I still use it but I tend to store things I use regularly in wide mouth jars and just use regular mouth jars for long-term storage items which cuts down on the size and number of jars I can use. Plus, all my special edition/color jars are regular mouths and because of the flaw in the sealer, these jars pretty much just sit in the back of the cupboard rather then adding a nice splash of color to the kitchen.

Regular lid sealer is poor
Like the other reviews, the large mouth sealer works fine, the regular mouth does not work. I thought it needed to be deeper but tried putting 2 bottle lids on the top of the jar (as suggested in other reviews) and it worked just fine. This seems backwards to me as the large mouth adaptor is deeper by 0.125″ but this seemed to work. I now have 2 hoses (I had lost the regular mouth adaptor) The new hose is a different size slightly, but both of them worked with the large and regular mouth sealers.

BEST INVESTMENT EVER
We use various sizes of mason jars for meal prep, leftovers to take to work, and long term storage of flours, beans, rices, chips, etc. Being able to vacuum seal all of our jars (without the boiling/canning method) assuring freshness and no chance of liquid leaks (in transit to work) has been so terrific.

Wrong ends for handheld use, don’t buy
I just now used the handheld accessory for my jars and it has 2 wrong ends. It’s too narrow to fit on the accessory port of the actual foodsaver machine to work. I thought I caught a good deal and read enough of the reviews, but sadly it’s a waste even for $12.

Wrong port on hose, Regular mouth requires extra work
I purchased a foodsaver (model FM2000) this past winter (2019), and purchased this to extend the shelf life of dried goods in the pantry. The hose had the exact SAME grey ends, both of which fit into the sealers, but NOT the food saver machine itself. So, useless hose.Thankfully, the food saver came with a hose itself with the two different ends that fit properly. The wide mouth isn’t perfect, but it is easier to use. There are less lid failures during the process with the wide mouth verses the regular mouth, so there is that. The regular mouth can not be used as is. I got the first jar to seal properly, then as I was trying to get the others to seal, it popped open.I went to the foodsaver website to troubleshoot, found nothing, and started reading reviews. There were suggestions on what to do to make it work. After I started doing these steps, the regular mouth worked.1. Do not overfill jars. Keep the 1 inch head space and do NOT press down or shake together powders like flour, or rice, etc., the air flows better if there’s a bit of room in the jar.2. Wipe the rim of jar and rim of lid with a damp, not wet, towel.3. Use two lids instead of one.4. With the hose UNattached, put the sealer on by putting it straight down from the top onto the jar.5. Attach the hose, hold the sealer down with one hand, run the foodsaver. It won’t take a lot of pressure, but you will have to hold manually it.6. When the foodsaver stops, pull the hose from the sealer first, then release the foodsaver.7. Carefully remove the sealer. Sometimes the gasket stays on the jar, sometimes it doesn’t. Remove second lid. (It’s just there t help with pressure.)After doing that, the regular mouth worked better. I currently have all the jars I sealed today on the counter. I’m going to wait 24 hours to double check the seals before putting them up in the pantry. Also, I have a few older jars that have a much larger beaded neck. The regular mouthed jars with that large of a neck could not be used, but the newer ones with a smaller one could. (See blurry pic.)Unlike regular canning for jams and such, this would be the one time you would want to store jars with the ring tightly on the jar. With waterbath or pressure canning wet foods, the lids can actually cause a false seal which can make the food unsafe to eat. With dry goods, the band can help to keep the seal and there is no danger of botulism. Plus, easier to stack, if need be.There was one last suggestion made that I did not have to try yet. It was to place the lids into an over set at 200 degrees for a minute or two to activate the red seal. It remains to be seen if I will have to do that to the lids in the future. As long as the seals remain, this purchase should be okay. By the end of my first batch of jars today, I’m not enamored. I will update if there is any new info.

Silver Jewelry Anti-Tarnish Experiment
Easy to use. I’m experimenting with mason jars and my silver jewelry. There are pieces I wear seasonally. Despite my best efforts; jewelry in a silver keeper which I then put in a ziplock bag and then place that in another bag – 10 months storage and it still tarnishes. I’m hoping this Mason jar thing works out. So far my Christmas pieces still look the same. I put my Easter James Avery Bracelet in a jar 1/27. I’ll soon pull it out. I’ll pull my Christmas Charm Necklace right after Halloween. Finger crossed there’s no tarnish, even minimal tarnishing would be Fabulously welcome. Hoping this works. I just don’t know how often I need to suck the air out. I’m thinking it’s supposed to be out until I unseal it. But since you can’t see air, it’s hard to tell. Anybody know how to tell if it’s really sealed, short of opening it? Is there a trick? Or do you just have to trust it?At some point I’ll start sealing dry goods. Maybe my chip clip will be a thing of the past. As well as my cherished Tupperware I purchased the larger machine with the hose attachment. It’s much quieter than the smaller one which I retuned. I had too many errors with it. It was temperamental. I did seal some seriously fragrant garden herbs we grew in some mason jars and sucked out the air with these lids. I will say I can’t smell anything.I’ll post more when I open the mason jars with the jewelry.February 4,2022. Here’s the update for my James Avery silver jewelry.Sucking the air out of the Mason Jars was the best idea ever!! Minimal tarnishing. A little Dawn Platinum or Dial anti-bacterial soap, drying them with the blow dryer followed by a mega light wip with my JA polishing cloth. Voila!!! 😘 This light cleaning on my silver jewelry James Avery charms, pendants, brown brooches, rings and bracelets means less wear on the artistic details vs having to do a heavy cleaning followed by heavy hand polishing as well. The charms on the charm necklaces look brand new. Bracelet charms hit each other with wrist movement. If they didn’t have little dings they would look brand new.Bottom line… rhe Mason jar attachment did what it was supposed to do.This year I added anti-tarnish strips.

An engineers guide to vacuum jarring.
First, the jar adapter is specifically designed to not work with foodsaver handheld cordless. The hose doesn’t fit, and the text on the top of the jar adapter is right where the handheld would fit if pressed, making a bad seal. To make the hose fit I first took the cap off the foodsaver handheld to expose a hose connector. I believe the cap was there to keep liquids from getting sucked up into the pump. I took the hose that came with the jar kit, cut it in half, and hit one of the cut ends with a heat gun. While hot I then pressed it onto the hose connector and it expanded to fit.Put food in a jar with whatever heating or cooling or drying technique you fee like, put the lid (but not band) on, and attach the jar adapter. When you start to pump the sound should go from a medium frequency to a low frequency to a high frequency. At a medium frequency it’s not doing any work, 14.7psi in the jar, 14.7 psi outside of the jar. It’s just moving air around like a fan. At a low frequency the jar adapter rubber has sealed to the bead of the jar and the pressure inside the adapter is lower than ambient. There are a lot of air particles slowing down the pump. At a high frequency the jar is empty of air. The pump is spinning or flapping or whatever and there are few air particles to slow it down. At this point stop pumping and disconnect the hose from the jar adapter. A regular lid is about 3″ diameter. That’s about 7 square inches. A proper seal with a proper vacuum at sea level would take 104lbs of force to remove the lid, not counting cheating by lifting the edge to let air in. All that air pressure is holding down the lid so you can safely remove the jar adapter. If the jar adapter is knocking the lid off with its flimsy rubber then it’s not really vacuum sealed.I’ve done about 30 jars. On 4 of them the jar adapter wouldn’t seal to the jar. On 2 of them I just had to press down harder so the rubber hit the bead. On 2 of them I ended up tying a string around the outside of the rubber underneath the adapter to get it to form a seal to the bead.

Works like a charm
Let me tell you, this thing DOES work on Costco model FM2900. I don’t know what happened, cause a lot of reviews earlier said it’s not compatible. Maybe they updated their products? It came with two adapter for standard and wide mouth lids and one hose with connectors. Yes, the hose and connectors in this kit won’t work. But the hose and connector came with FM2900 works perfectly!I have no problem getting the standard/normal lid vacuumed. Did a batch of 12 bottles and worked so smoothly. I’m in love with this thing now. How come I didn’t know it before!?Saving money and earth now. I’m happy

Useful FoodSaver Tool
Great for temporarily sealing jars for dry goods, grains, and seasonings. Easy to use. Push onto jar with canning lid, push vacuum hose into receptacle, and press seal. Worked great with my FoodSaver but you have to be careful removing the adapter or it can break the seal.

Works beautifully
I bought this jar sealer attachment about 1 year ago. It worked so well and cost so little that I bought several more and started giving them to friends who had vacuum sealers. Im a single guy at age 31 who works 50hrs per week so I would often have fruit and veggies beginning to rot before I had a chance to eat everything. Now, after grocery shopping I rinse and place ALL veggies and fruit in sealed mason jars before placing in the fridge. I am now able to have fresh fruit for weeks without needing to pick out the odd blueberry growing mold or the mushy strawberry. The amount of wasted food has gone done SIGNIFICANTLY.Once I developed a routine of sealing jars each time I used one, I began putting all kinds of stuff in jars just because the act of sealing them became simple and quick. Now I seal stuff like herbs (mint, thyme), tomatoes. I put entire bunches of salad greens in large jars and leftover food in smaller jars. Im beginning to envision my entire fridge subdivided with different sized jars of fresh produce.Pro tips:1.) This setup only works if you keep your vacuum sealer on the counter top with the lid sealing attachment ready to go. Once a jar is opened to get food out, it only takes a few seconds to reseal and place back in the fridge. If the vacuum sealer is in the cupboard you’ll be less likely to use it on a daily basis.2.) Its important to tighten your jar rings tight. I had a few suction failures at first but then realized I wasnt tightening the rings enough. Now I have ZERO failures.Summary: You should definitely buy this product. At the low cost of $10 USD, its a no brainer. If you actually train yourself to seal jars EVERY time you use one, you’ll save a lot of money and wont have to grocery shop as often.UPDATE: After 2 full years of daily use my sealer still works great. Some foods begin to ferment in the jars and will cause postitive air pressure to occur and you’ll loose your seal. However, this doesnt seem to matter because once the food begins fermenting it is now resistant to foreign bacteria and wont spoil. When I see a jar lid bulging from pressure I simply unscrew the ring to release the pressure and go on about my business. I dont bother resealing until I get food out later. Some foods that seem to ferment 100% of the time.. .Black berries: YupRaspberries: YupBlueberries: Yes but not much. They produce almost no c02 gas. However, after about 2 months you can taste a little carbonation from the fermentation process.Garlic cloves: YupTomatoes: YupOranges: NahSalad greens: NopeApples: NopeWild plumbs: Yes and FAST!Peaches: Yessir!I hope this info helps people know what to expect.

You don’t need a FoodSaver vacuum sealer to use this product
You can use this product with a simple car brake bleeder hand pump, an inexpensive item found at any auto supply store or here on Amazon. Many channels focusing on herbs and/or food preservation on Youtube mention that this method actually works better than using these with FoodSaver’s vacuum sealer. If don’t own a FS vacuum sealer, Fear Not! You can still use these jar sealers.

Nice addition to the sealer.
These have been a really wonderful addition for my pantry. I’ve been able to seal jars for most all my dry goods. Things like flower are a bit tricky. You need to insure the lids are boiled and the tops of the jars are dust free. Once you create the ideal environment, the sealing is flawless.I’ve processed about 20 quarts of flour, 20 quarts of rice, and 45 quarts of various beans. Even if this was to die tonight, it has paid for itself multiple time. The bags that arrive with the unit are OK, but other bags are much better. Wevac Vacuum Sealer Bags are purchasable on Amazon and have been simply amazing with this sealer.

Hello FoodSavers,I thought of creating this video for all of those who have several doubts in their mind before purchasing this product (Note: Video doesn’t have audio).I know this because I had several doubts in my mind, like;-Which jars are suitable for this sealer and does it really work?Answer: Mason Jars are suitable for this sealer. I am using Ball Mason Jars (Pint size) and they work great with this sealer.-Will it work for moist/wet items including liquids?Answer: Yes it does work for moist and wet items like prepared pasta or any type of sauce. I haven’t tried liquids but it should work.-Can I remove it once fixed on the Jar or I have to purchase one per each Jar?Answer: Yes, you can remove the sealer from mason jars once sealed like shown in the video. This is the great thing I liked about this product. Food saver cum money saver.-Which jar to buy and where? And will it cost me more as the FoodSaver bags?Answer: Any mason jar should be good according to the type of mouth. But Ball Mason Jar works for me. They are available on Amazon but I got it from Walmart. I got pint sized wide mouth jars, a pack of 12 for $8.5.-What is Regular mouth and Wide mouth sealers and are jars available in these type of mouths?Answer: Two types of mason jars are available in the market which are compatible with these sealers. Though keep in mind this review is for Wide-mouth jar sealer. So if you have purchased wide mouth jar sealers you will need wide mouth mason jars and for regular mouth jars purchase the regular mouth sealer.-Are jars and lids/bands reusable?Yes, all components are reusable. That’s the great thing about Mason jars and this sealer.-How much is a Pint or a Quart?1 Pint = 16oz = 0.47 liters1 Quart = 32oz = 2Pint = 0.95 liters-How can I know that the jar is really vacuumed? When you place the lid on the jar and then vacuum it using this sealer, vacuum pressure is generated within the sealer and it sucks all the air out (also from the jar and the area above the lid) and so it tightens the seal firmly over the jar. At this moment if you remove the tube from the sealer you would hear a sound, this is because the air enter the hole immediately as soon as you remove the tube. Try pulling the lid and you may have to apply force to remove it. This indicates the jar has been vacuum sealed.-How to remove the lid once it’s sealed tight and frozen? If you have frozen contents in the vacuumed jar sometimes it would be difficult for you to open the lid. There are chances that you may damage the lid. To avoid this either keep the jar in warm water for few minutes or hold the jar under hot water tap for few seconds. Hurray… enjoy your food :). Though be careful while holding the jar under hot water as you don’t want yourself to get any burns. This product is a must buy as FoodSaver bags are expensive and cannot hold wet/moist items (like sauce or wet pasta). Hope this helps.Note: I am using it since couple of weeks now, so do not forget to read the user manuals and use your vacuum machine accordingly. I created this video to clear doubts in people’s mind so that they can purchase this product willingly.Cheers…Update May 9th 2012 11:59AM EST -I am very pleased with this product. I have stored Pasta, Thai Curries, Asian Curries and also Indian Curries in Mason jars using this sealer. They taste almost the same even after 5 to 6 weeks. Saves hell lot of money but also time which is the important. I never thought I would use my vacuum system the way am using it currently. Even you can prepare soup and store it for several weeks/months. Though keep in mind that most of the product after vacuuming needs refrigeration. So place it according to the items suggested in your vacuum system manual. I wonder how people can give 1 star for such an amazing product. I am loving it.

Solutions to Known Problems with the FoodSaver Mason Jar Vacuum Sealer Kit
I absolutely LOVE my jar sealer kit. I seal all my spices, herbs, beans, flour, wheat berries, rice, and more in various size Mason Jars (4, 8, 16, 32, and 64oz).Everything said here about the problems with the Regular-Mouth Adapter are true. It is not designed properly. But I found a SOLUTON THAT WORKS for me every time (so far except for one jar that was chipped). My solution is to use a clean WET sponge to moisten the bottom ring of the jar. I am providing a picture of my technique. (I only had one hand available because I had to take the picture but…) With the hand not shown, I rotate the jar around keeping the WET sponge exactly as shown all the way around (only the end of the sponge needs to be WET, I try not to get any moisture above that ring)). I found that getting the sponge wet before each use seemed to be make a difference. Immediately seal the jar before the ring has a chance to dry.I start the vacuum before I connect the hose to the Adapter. That way I can tell right away if it’s sealing. The sound changes if the machine starts working harder to do the sealing. As long as that bottom ring was wet I had about a 90% success rate. On those occasions when the sealing did not start right away, I picked up the jar and Adapter and gently twisted the jar a tad inside the Adapter. This worked for me every time the jar did not seal on it’s own.If that doesn’t do it for you, you can play around with tilting the Adapter a bit. I used to have to do this before I figured out the wet ring solution. As for the complaint about the hose not fitting the sealer, this too is true. BUT, the hose that comes with your sealer should work. I’ve had a couple different brands and they all came with a hose that worked. If you purchased a sealer without a hose, you may be out of luck. The only hose I’ve seen that you can order separately is the FoodSaver hose which, as others have said, does not work with many sealers.I have never considered the hose problem a big deal since the hoses that came with my sealers have worked great. The Regular-Mouth problem was a huge problem for me because I use 4oz mason jars to store all my spices in. I had a “need” to make it work and kept exploring options (wrapped 5 layers of black tape around that bottom rim which worked well prior to coming up with the idea of the wet ring which works better and saves all that tape and time :). Except for the 4oz jars for the spice and herbs, I stick with Wide-Mouth simply because the Wide-Mouth Adapter works great every time with no additional steps. As far as I know, you cannot buy 4oz Wide-Mouth jars :).I keep the sealer on my counter because I use it almost daily. All of the jars in the Spice Drawer show are all Vacuum Sealed.Just make sure that bottom ring has no chips, the top of the jar is clean, and the lid is clean as well.

Mason jar sealer
It worked very well. It seals both size jar very easily. It does take 45 seconds to make sure it has sealed properly but not bad considering on how long everything will last. The only issue is that it doesn’t shut off automatically but other than that it does the job.

Great sealing power
I don’t know why I waited so long to buy these jar sealers. Both sizes worked well. I had no issues with the smaller size, as some of the other reviews had mentioned.

Great item!
I made recipe jars for Christmas gifts. I was able to get ready ahead of time and vacuum seal the jars. Easy to use.

Works very well for pulling air out of jars
I bought these to replace a set of jar vacuum sealers that I misplaced. I’ve used these for many years with my FoodSaver unit and have had great success at canning dry foods. This new one performs as well as the old ones that I lost; the only issue is with the rubber seal bunching up when you remove it from the jar. This is not a big deal… it’s more of a design flaw of sorts. I could probably fix it by putting some hot glue around the edge of the rubber seal, but it’s not a game stopper. These FoodSaver far vacuum sealers still work great for pulling the air out of the jars, and I would still recommend them.

Good product
Great for my dry goods. Struggled to get a good seal, once I learned you have to apply some pressure to it to make a good seal it was smooth sailing. If the instructions would’ve been better it would’ve been 5 stars. Other that that the material and construction are very sturdy and i have no complaints on that.

Does not work with NESCO vacuum sealer….
I only bought this because in the Q&A for the product somebody said it would work. It doesn’t. Not the way it arrives anyway. You have to modify it. I almost returned it but my husband took a look and fiddled with it. Turns out the little piece on the end of the tubing that fits into the port on the vacuum sealer isn’t long enough to press down on the ball valve inside the port so the suction never begins on the canister port – it continues vacuuming from the inner portion where you seal the bags.I thought about sending it back but I had jars to seal, I am very impatient and my husband is handy so… he cut off the hard plastic end piece on one side which just left the tube. He forced that onto the inner (bag sealer) suction tube and then it worked like a charm ! Even the regular mouth lids !Then I couldn’t get it off to put away my vacuum sealer lol. Ok so I don’t know the right terms for what my hubby bought at the hardware store but basically he bought the next size up in tubing plus a little connector that allows you to push together the different sized tubing. That gave me just a smidge larger diameter at the end. With a lighter to soften the tube up and a little muscle my dear husband worked that tube end onto the inner suction piece, shaped it, let it cool/harden and voila ! It comes off and on very easily now with no chance of my breaking it off.I don’t think I should have had to go thru this for almost 30 dollars but the truth is these attachments were made for another brand of food sealer. And I cannot track down the proper ones for the NESCO. On the plus side, since the hard plastic piece we cut off is exactly the same as the piece on the other end (the part that plugs into the attachment once you’ve seated it on your jar), we now have two or a tube for each attachment – the wide mouth & the regular.I have used this multiple times now and it works beautifully although that credit goes to my honey. But if you have a NESCO brand vacuum sealer and you’re handy or have someone who can help you out, by all means, go for it. I’m thrilled to have this jar sealer ! I don’t have to mess around with OAs all the time. At least not for jars I’m going to want to get in and out of regularly. And there isn’t any guessing when you should stop it, it stops by itself when it’s done.It worked out amazingly for some ‘soup in a jar’ gifts I made. I highly recommend it

Great gadget
Ok I’ve had a vacuum sealer for years. One things I enjoyed doing was sealing my dry goods in wide mouth mason jars. My new unit does not have the sealer just for the jars. So I purchased the kit off Amazon that came with the small and wide mouth lids. I have sugar, flour, oatmeal, cornmeal, pasta, powered sugar, rice, oils, cereal in different size mason jars. I have powered brown sugar 7 years old and it’s not a brick. Well worth the money.

HERE IS THE SECRET! 99+% sealing success. Step-by-step. Easiest with two people but can be done with one.
This is a GREAT product, IF you know how to use it! Tiny mistakes can make this product not work at all.Canning jars are designed to be heat sealed, and the sealing compound (upper red ring inside lid) softens at boiling point – SO, it is difficult to get a good seal without using heat (only vacuum) unless you know the secrets:WHAT TO KNOW:1. The vacuum jar sealer works by creating a vacuum between the jar sealer’s inner softer plastic ring and the lowest outer glass bead/ring below the threads of the glass jar. That strong and airtight connection is not always easy to achieve. SO: Moistening both the upper side of the outer glass ring on the jar, as well as the inner soft plastic (blue on mine) of the jar sealer will help to get a better seal, if needed.2. Though this is an accessory attachment, the overall vacuum that is sensed by the vacuum sealing machine is affected. If there are any abnormalities in your main machine, the attachment will not work. SO: Make sure that the inner seals/gaskets of your main sealer are soft, pliable and completely free of any moisture, debris, dried food or creases. These are the gaskets where you normally seal bags. If they aren’t airtight, your jar sealing will not work correctly. Clean them completely off and dry them. Replace gaskets if necessary. They MUST be clean and creating a good strong seal inside the machine.3. The lid adheres to the top of the glass jar only at the moment right when the vacuum process stops. As long as sufficient air has been evacuated from the glass jar, then the air rushing back in is what creates the seal. SO: The cancel button or simply releasing the vacuum motor on the sealing machine both DO NOT create large/fast enough volume of air to make a seal. Actually yanking the plastic tube connector (not the tube itself) out of the top of the jar sealer is the only way to get enough of a rush of air to properly seal. With practice you can do this as one person (one palm holds down the lid of the sealer activating the pump motor, and the thumb and first fingers of that same hand keep vertical downward pressure on the jar sealer), but it is easier and faster with two.STEP BY STEP:a) Remove the metal lid-retaining ring and the lid from jar. Set the metal retaining ring aside. You do not use the ring during vacuum sealing (only afterwards).b) Using a very clean partially damp sponge*, moisten the upper part of the lower outer glass ring (below where the bottom of the metal ring is), all the way around the jar. IMPORTANT! Place the jar directly next to the sealing machine (one hand must hold both when you seal)c) Using the same sponge, moisten all the way around the inside of the softer plastic ring on the inside of the sealer (this will contact the glass ring you just moistened)*d) lightly moisten just the red/sealing outer band on the bottom of the lid*. Tap on its side to remove any excesse) Place lid on jar, then sealer over everything, with hose firmly attached.f) While keeping strong downward vertical pressure with one hand, use the other hand’s butt of it’s palm to press down on the sealing machine to activate the motor.g) While motor is running, position the motor-actuating hand so that it begins to grab around the top of the sealer and pulls down using thumb and first fingers. You have to do this with one hand, because the other hand (or a helper) will be needed to pull out the hose connector very quickly.h) For a quart glass jar, the motor must run no less than sixty seconds (YMMV)i) After enough time has passed to have evacuated sufficient air from the glass jar. Keep your left hand (if right handed) with simultaneous downward pressure on the sealing machine/motor and downward pressure holding down the jar sealer., with thumb and fingers wrapped around as much as possible to create even downward pressure around the jar. Release your right hand with the motor still runningj) Use your right/dominant hand to firmly grasp the tube connector at the top of the jar sealer. While the motor is running, very quickly yank the tube connector straight up and out of the sealer.k) You can then relax all your muscles. Wiggle up the jar sealer, and if you did everything right, the jar will be sealed, the button on top will be down, and you can screw on the ring tightly to maintain the seal.TIPS:i) *Once you have your technique & confidence down (and your gaskets are clean), you may not need any use of moisture, or maybe only every several jars.ii) If you try a couple of times and you cannot seal, try the SAME lid with a DIFFERENT jar. Small imperfections in the manufacture of the jar (the seam that runs up the sides especially) can make it so that some jars simply cannot be sealed.iii) Heating up your lids in boiling water (remove, then tap to shake off water right before sealing) can help to create a better seal*.iv) If your glass jar does not have the full outer/lower ring below where the end of the metal ring stops, then it cannot use this jar sealer.v) Lid outer sealing areas must have full covering of the red sealing material. Nicks and scratches will not work. Some people swear by new lids, other by pre-dishwasher “relaxed fit” lids – doesn’t seem to matter to my technique.

No need for tube on FM 5200
I bought this months ago and didn’t use it until now. I brought my food saver FM 5200 and I started freaking out as it was attaching with the tube attached. But once I noticed to just use the ziplock attachment removing the cap, and just attaching to the jar lid covers it was smooth sailing! It took maybe 5 minutes to do about 15 jars. I already had them set up and ready to go. Now I have stored 12 lbs of bread flour, box of bisquick mix, my dog’s freeze dried chicken livers, a large container of Adobo, dehydrated Chantelle mushrooms in a matter of 5 minutes of actual use. Amazing!

Jar Sealer Works with FM2900
I almost returned this jar sealer and Costco Foodsaver FM 2900, after reading so many reviews that this jar sealer did not work with model FM2900. As a long time Foodsaver owner, being able to seal mason jars is important to me, and thanks to reviewer Elsa, who shared that this jar sealer worked with her FM2900, I followed her suggestion to use the accessory hose that came with the FM2900 instead of the one that came with this jar sealer, and as a result, I was able to consistently get a tight seal on my wide mouth mason jars. Simply separate the clear bottom portion of the handheld sealer that came with FM2900, from the top handle, and it will reveal a port that is then snuggly inserted into the hole in the top of this jar sealer. (Since I only use wide mouth jars, I was not able to test the regular jar sealer). Thanks again Elsa for sharing your recommendation!

Great Kitchen Gadget
I have had a food saver for a few years now and I wish I would have gotten this sooner. It is super easy to use and will help keep items in my pantry fresh for longer. I had no issues getting several jars to seal on the first try and was able to use the existing accessory attachment on my Food Saver.

Doesn’t work on regular size jars.
The size for regular size canning jars will not create a seal. The food saver will only create a seal with the large mouth jar size top. I don’t know why, just how it is.

Using the regular mouth piece needs tweaking
Overall, this is a very handy product if you already have a vacuum sealer for food (name brand or Amazon Basics). I use these to seal my home dehydrated foods in jars. The sealing cap for the wide mouth jars just works! The sealing cap for the regular mouth jars needs special tweaking. For me, I use another jar lid turned upside down on top of the lid I am using to seal the jar. Sometimes that helps the sealing process, sometimes it doesn’t.

Pleasantly Surprised
When I ordered this product I only hoped it would work with the food saver I have. I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to connect and use. I am not sure how it works but I am very pleased that it seals the jars I wanted sealed with dry ingredients in them.

Foodsaver Jar Sealers (Regular- and Wide-Mouth) and V3230 vacuum Sealer
Foodsaver v3230 and Jar SealersThe main reason I purchased a Foodsaver vacuum sealer was to be able to store my cats’ (my Boys’) dry food to help maintain freshness, since I spend extra money to buy a high quality food that loses its freshness and spoils quickly when not stored properly – and yes, it is dry food. Plus, I wanted to be able to store this food in glass containers. I found the Ball 1/2 gallon canning jars and am able to store the contents of an 18 pound bag of food in 8 of these jars using the Foodsaver wide-mouth jar sealer. It’s great! I wish I had known about all these contraptions before now – would have saved a lot of wasted food/money. I also store human food but started out buying it for my Boys’ food.I am so thankful for the reviews; many of the comments were very helpful! One person wrote that she thought she would have to use one jar sealer for each jar she used. That’s exactly what I thought. That would have been quite expensive and didn’t seem worth it to me – given that the wide mouth jar sealers are approx $10 and for some reason the regular mouth jar sealers I’ve found have been more than that. so, one jar sealer can be used over & over & over again along with the flat part of the lid of the canning jar. After vacuuming the air out and removing the jar sealer, I put on the screw-on band. Anyway, I’m getting ahead of myself. When I 1st started using this machine, I was using it wrong and every time I tried to seal a 1/2 gallon jar using the wide mouth jar sealer, the machine would run for 2 minutes – every time. I just thought the 1/2 gallon required more vacuuming due to the amount of air in that size. Nope; it would also run two minutes on the smaller jars. Also, when I would try to take the jar sealer off, I had to be extremely careful so the lid of the canning jar didn’t come off with it – which it did in many cases using the wide mouth jar sealer and which it did every time when I used the regular mouth jar sealer. It was very aggravating. I was ready to return everything. On top of that, when I used the bags, no air was being vacuumed out, but it would seal. I knew something was wrong. That’s when I found the TurboedMX6 YouTube video. If you search the internet for Foodsaver v3230, one of the first links that I found that is listed is a YouTube video by TurboedMX6. This guy did a very nice job and went a long way to helping me use this machine properly. I highly recommend it. He didn’t talk about the jar sealers; he only talked about vacuum-sealing plastic bags, but the video helped me with both.In the video, when he turned the locking handle, it made a definitive sound, and I remembered that mine didn’t make that sound, because I didn’t turn it all the way; it kinda snaps into place. It’s amazing how everything finally worked after that. Air gets sucked out of the plastic bags now, and the jar sealer is absolutely fantastic. It vacuums the jars for 10-15 seconds. When it’s done making a lot of noise vacuuming, the “seal” light comes on, so I press cancel, because I’m not using the heat portion of the sealing process which is used to seal the plastic bags.I take the hose connection out of the jar sealer, and it makes a brief whoosh sound releasing any leftover air from the hose (something I also learned in another review). I never got any whooshing sounds before when the machine would run for 2 minutes. Now I can take the jar sealer off the jar without being hesitant or extra careful. that lid is on there so tight, it’s sometimes difficult to break the seal to open it again. That’s okay. I’d rather have that than to have to be extra gentle with it so I didn’t break the seal.I have bought several cases of many different sizes of the canning jars, and I have purchased extra food for my Boys to keep on hand. I also store food to take to work. I’m so happy with this investment of all these foodsaving products!

As described
There is definitely a learning curve when using this product. Either not putting on enough vacuum on the can or being too rough when removing the adapter. But the lid is under the vacuum. It holds it for a very long time. The hose and the plastic is very rich and seems to be built to last.
