About Us
For more than 150 years, Pendleton has set the standard for American style. With six generations of family ownership, the company remains dedicated to its American heritage, authenticity and fabric craftsmanship.
Pendleton has thrived under the direction of the Bishop family. For many years, Clarence’s sons, C.M. Bishop, Jr. (Mort) and Broughton (Brot) Bishop, acted as co-executive officers.
Today, their children have assumed management roles in the company. John Bishop is president and Peter Bishop is an executive vice president. This family thread has continued to produce Pendleton leadership with a legacy of hands-on management for six generations
MEN’S APPAREL
Under the direction of the Bishop family, Pendleton expanded into other areas of woolen manufacturing.
Wool shirts for men were largely utility items in the early 20th century. Drab in design and color, they were worn for warmth and protection from the elements by those who worked outdoors. Clarence Morton (C.M.) Bishop had a vision for wool shirts in vivid colors and intricate patterns. The production of woolen shirting material was a natural extension of the mill’s capabilities. In 1924, the legendary Pendleton virgin wool men’s shirt was born. By 1929, Pendleton was making a full line of men’s virgin wool sportswear.
WOMEN’S APPAREL
A new thread was woven into the Pendleton corporate cloth in 1949 – womenswear manufacturing. Market research identified a need and an opportunity for branded virgin wool classic sportswear for women. Nevertheless, no one could have predicted the enormous success of a single garment introduced with the Pendleton womenswear line that year. The ’49er jacket gained instant popularity. Its simple, casual styling and intrinsic value were a perfect match for the emerging suburban lifestyle of postwar America.
As the apparel division thrived, Pendleton responded to consumer need for non-wool garments to complement its fine woolens coordinated within the fall and winter lines. Yet brand loyal customers wanted the same classic Pendleton look for all seasons. In 1972, Pendleton became a year-round sportswear resource, introducing distinctively styled, non-wool menswear and womenswear for spring and summer wear.

Pendleton’s most popular style in new colors! As worn by “The Dude” in the 1998 movie The Big Lebowski, this heavier zip cardigan has all the authentic details in 100% lambswool.

A Pricey Gem, But Worth Every Penny
I recently purchased the Pendleton Men’s The Original Westerley Zip Up Cardigan Sweater, and it’s been nothing short of a revelation in my wardrobe. Yes, the price tag is on the higher end, but let me tell you, it’s worth every cent. This sweater has become my go-to for its unparalleled warmth and comfort. It’s like being wrapped in a cozy blanket, perfect for those chilly days. The sweater’s ability to break the wind is impressive, making it an ideal companion for outdoor activities or just a casual day out. Its quality is evident in every stitch, ensuring durability and long-term use. I find myself reaching for it almost every day, barring the summer months, of course. It’s a testament to its versatility and how well it fits into my daily life.Out of all the purchases I’ve made this year, this sweater tops the list. It’s not just a piece of clothing; it’s a reliable, comforting presence in my everyday routine. For anyone sitting on the fence about this, I highly recommend taking the plunge. It’s an investment that pays off with every wear.

Scratchy at first but gets soft. Very warm.
This is the official sweater from “The Big Lebowski” film. It’s heavy and warm. The sizing is correct. My husband loves it. It’s a beautiful sweater and worth the price.

Beautiful, and classic. High quality.
This was a fav Christmas gift I gave to my son. He’s already worn to church twice. Handsome sweater. He’s a big guy and the fit was true at XXL.

The Big Lebowski sweater. And it is the exact one.
This is great for people who want to be stylish and retro. But, to be honest most people buy this due to Jeff Lebowski wearing it in the movie. If you want a great Halloween costume then go with this one. The others are just a one wear and done. This sweater will last forever if you take care of it. It is well made and the zipper is good with a ring for opening and closing the sweater up. The colors are great and it would be fantastic for skiing. They do run large and it is wool. Wear something for the possible itch.

It really ties the outfit together
I assumed this was made from cotton, but it’s lambswool. So, it was scratchy at first, but that was easily gotten used to. The first time I put it on, I walked around asking various members of the house if they had any Khalúa. No luck.I wore it to my son’s swim meet and was greeted with unsolicited compliments from random competitors as I walked by, and with recognition from (cool) adults.I realize it’s still winter, but what impresses me the most is that I have yet to overheat wearing this cardigan. The wool seems to do an excellent job of releasing excess heat and keeping me in the comfort zone. The quality of the cardigan is top notch from the tight cabling to the stitching. I will be certain to dry clean this item when the time comes. And I don’t dry clean clothes.Although the dearth of pockets in the men’s version is a bummer, there are plenty of pocket options in supporting garments. The ring on the zipper, I think, is supposed to be round, but mine looks like it’s been squished. Maybe that’s why it was so heavily discounted, maybe not – but I really don’t mind the extra bit of character.Highly recommended … I will be collecting all the colors in the coming years.

The sweater abides.
Of course The Dude factors into purchasing this sweater. Growing up in the 70s also factors in. Beyond that, these are made to last, are super comfortble and warm. Pendleton is the good stuff. Educate yourself on how to wash and dry wool items, though… cold water, Woolite, tumble Low dry or dry flat.

Dude! It’s a fantastic cardigan!
Always wanted, but didn’t feel like paying $250 for it. Price finally hit $170 and I jumped on it. Can’t lie, the Dude got me to buy this and I’m damn glad I did. Will be rocking it all of the time.
