Probably the best work phone I ever used, but battery is an issue
Unlike those slow Kai OS phone or old school feature phone. This thing runs Android 11 Go but it works almost like a normal one, with wifi hotspot. Also most of the 4G/LTE frequency bands are supported.WhatsApp, OneDrive and other basic apps will work as a normal Android phone.Some apps can’t be installed from Play Store but you can sideload them. (Such as Garmin Connect)Be careful SD card that is larger than 32GB (I believe?) will be recognized as corrupted. Even if you format them. After a reboot they will be “corrupted” again. Use an smaller size one.The side programmable button can be used to open apps and flashlight. (Flashlight is double press only)The 2GB RAM isn’t really an issue as I can use kiwi browser with ublock origin without crashing. Nova Launcher 6 also works. I don’t think this phone can run games with that 2GB RAM but you can try.The phone itself is also water proofSome bad things:Battery drain pretty fast (like, really). If you plan to use at outdoor for a whole day. Wanted a phone my kids didn’t get to and that i could work with
I was looking for a phone that was both smart / dumb (digital – for some apps, and analogue). The reason being is that everytime I turned around and left my phone unattended, my kids would take my phone to play games, go on youtube or social media and running it out of batteries – making me miss important business, work phone calls, etc,… So far, I am LOVING this phone. The quality of the phone is good. Aside from its analogue features of being able to make / receive direct phone calls, I was able to install google voice, whatsapp normal and whatsapp for business. am able to see my google calendar, notes, drive, also youtube in hidden folder. One thing to have in mind is that once you close the phone it doesn’t mean your whatsapp conversation has ended, so make sure you hit the red button to end the call, if not the other person may continue to hear your conversation in the room. Anyway in general, if you’re looking for a phone for your productivity and availability this is it. Battery life is good, able to install app although is not socil media friendly do to the size of the screen so that makes it perfect for work related app as i mentioned.

I love this phone
I wanted a dumb phone to replace my iphone; trying to improve my time management and develop healthier habits. I researched a few and ended up choosing this fella.The screen is so small that it really can’t be used for social media, but I can still have Spotify and navigation, fitness app, etc. It’s a little heavy but that is by design. It’s just fantastic overall and I’m so happy to be rid of my old smart phone.

Eh I knew what I was getting into
So I needed a phone that would get wrecked I do carpentry and my screens usually get wrecked from that or dust however they put a easily accessible silicone tab on the charging port to keep out gunknow my issues.#1YouTube is buggy guessing it’s the android problem and robbinhood app is buggy worked at first but typing in my password now has problems. #2when you open the phone try tapping the end call button five times and it will take you out of the black screen don’t why that happens.#3 the speaker is quiet.#4 The tiny front screen window when receiving text will show the wrong person or the last person number you texted or called as the new messenger contacting you.#5 surprisingly the battery life is horrid even in power saving mode don’t listen to music or on my phone at work much holy cow this thing dies quick. So all in all I still like this phone it just mainly needs *battery ,*Android is fixed other than that it’s pretty durable.

Great for downsizing
First of all, I have to reveal that my purpose in buying this phone was that I wanted to spend less time looking at screens. I still wanted to have GPS/maps and some emergency access to web searches and other phone features. But I needed some sort of deterrent when self-control wasn’t working.Because it is a fully functional android operating system, it has all the necessary functions and the most common gadgets and functions we’ve all come to depend on. But it also has a small screen. So, it is often difficult to see all the stuff that Google is trying to shove into your face. It also has a small on-screen keyboard. It is difficult to use.While the process is somewhat frustrating, that was exactly what I needed. A deterrent. And it worked.I still have all the functions that I’d need when I REALLY need them. But it is just slow/frustrating enough for me to only use it as a phone and calendar for 90% of the time. Then I can use the other functions when I have to.In the meantime, I don’t spend so much time on Youtube or surfing the web. That frees up a lot more time for me to do other stuff. And it has been wonderful to get more done.

Awesome phone with a couple flaws.
I got this phone with the primary interest of scaling back my normal mindless phone use. With that in mind, I needed a phone that could actually replace the important functionality of my iphone while still cutting out most of the useless timesinks. In my case that meant I needed a phone that could run stuff like gmail, discord, & slack – but that didn’t have a big fun screen and ideally couldn’t run games etc.This phone checks all of those requirements perfectly. The swipe to type thing that android does is surprisingly easy to use. The screen is very small – if you are looking for a phone like this for the same reasons I was, that is a good thing. from that perspective, the screen is the exact right size. But if you wanted a full on smartphone experience just with a physical numberpad tacked on, thats not what this phone is setting out to do.The buttons feel great. The screen has great color and good detail, but gets greased up much easier than other ones I have used. The automatic brightness feature is absolutely terrible and needed to be turned off immediately. The camera is functional and takes decent photographs, but you absolutely should not be buying this for the camera.It doesn’t have a headphone jack (but does include a dongle). I think that’s some hot malarky, but that’s sort of the unfortunate landscape we’re in with phones now, no matter how much I detest it.

Best compromise if you want to switch back to a flip phone
Like many people, I wanted to decrease my screen time, but found the functionality of my smartphone too valuable to give up. This phone perfectly rides the balance between smart and dumb phones. I can still listen to youtube, but can’t waste my life scrolling through socials while I do it (no PIP support), I can use maps, but without dictated turn by turn directions I actually remember how to get to a place a second time without maps, and with a 12 key keyboard, I actually call people more, rather than have excessively long txt conversations (also, as a millenial, the pre-t9 txting is nostalgic). This phone is definitely not a powerhouse, but if (like me) you find yourself entirely too engaged with your phone, but dumbphones just aren’t an option, this is the perfect fit to encourage a healthier engagement with your phone. Also, works great with Mint mobile, so it’s an economical option as well. Would suggest getting a micro SD card to go with it though as the internal storage is only 16GB. Side note, youtube does use a healthy amount of battery fairly quick, but since you need to keep the screen open to use it, I usually have it plugged in on my desk and use bluetooth headphones to listen to podcasts; other than that, battery performance is reasonable, better than my old phone (Galaxy Note 9).

Rugged phone
A good phone as a backup when hiking (for me at least) because it’s very rugged and durable also water resistant, with google maps installed and it seems that you can actually install almost any android app. All of this at 65 euros, 100 with shipping

Functionality
This phone is in the smart phone category but has little comfort as a smart phone. The virtual keyboard is difficult to use at best. If that is the case then any smartphone function usage is impaired. I need a feature phone onle and for that purpose it’s good. This phone is water resistant and unbreakable. For my purposes itys good the voice and battery are fine.

Exceptional Hardware
I am an old Android smart phone user. I found the touch screen of the CAT S22 very interesting – By the way, this is really beautiful and functional screen. Unfortunately, I accidentally ordered this phone. I hadn’t noticed the operating system was full Android, like conventional smart phones. I thought it was a light/modded version of Android, like the Sunbeam F1 phones which also have a touch screen. The hardware of this phone is of extra quality and refinement! As for the software, it would absolutely have to be replaced. The power of the phone is simply insufficient and the screen much too small to use full Android. With an adapted version of Android or KaiOS, this phone would be simply top!

Very good for the money
Pros:Value for money is excellentObviously very durableBattery life better than expected, but could be better (so is also a con)PTT works great for most apps with little hassle on setup. (it’s coded well. some aren’t)Touchscreen is fantastic for such a small deviceAndroid OS may be a ‘light’ version, but I’ve had no issues with all apps needed for work (Outlook, Teams, DUO security, etc.)Small screen has done exactly what I wanted – no more wasted time just scrolling videos. I’m back to my better, interactive hobbies, like HAM radio using the PTT button for Zello, EchoLink, Peanut, etc.Reception is fantastic. On par with phones twice this size.Cons:Although battery life is better than expected, but heavy use will kill it before end of day without plugging it in.Flip phone is great, but it is difficult to impossible to open one handed.Keypad will almost always double-stroke when entering in the unlock PIN the first few times. Annoying to say the least.Obviously with the small screen, using onscreen keyboard is extremely difficult, even with swype style. T9 works great if you can get used to that again. You knew what you were getting into though so… yeah.Large for a flip phone. I love it, but I can imagine someone with small hands having a hard time with it.Otherwise… great phone!

An Overview of the CAT s22
Frequencies: It has a lot of frequencies covering 2G, 3G, and 4G. Also, since it came out in 2021 as 5G was advertising, it has all the 4G fixings that some cellular companies denied phones for not having even when they had 4G. Additionally, it has a radio built with several country’s radio frequencies as selections, meaning you could visit a lot of different countries and simply use the phone as a portable radio player without even connecting it to cellular service. It’s not a HAM radio, but for a phone, it’s pretty nice.Glass: Gorilla Glass 5 on both the inside and outside. Looking into glass quality, today’s nice phones should have Gorilla Glass Victus.Curiosities: A flip phone with cameras on both sides and can be closed and put upside down which makes both cameras unable to gain any picture – you watch these movies of this or that specialist breaking into a phone and looking through the camera… not on an upside flip phone, lol. Guess that’s why it’s not in the movies.Hardware: The phone ‘could’ handle 3GB of RAM, but Google would not put Android 11 Go on any phone that had more than 2GB of RAM, so the CAT s22 has the cap of 2GB of RAM. The storage included is 16 GB, while the hardware can handle 128 GB MicroSD card, preferably the SanDisk High Endurance memory as specifically noted in other CAT phone documentation I read. When this 128 GB MicroSD card of SanDisk High Endurance memory is used, the choice to use it as an external memory source(not encrypted) or as part of the phone memory(safer because it is encrypted) becomes a choice of yours. Most apps and games and games will not run on the MicroSD card, but some will. The app game works like this, install the app, login, download whatever you use, then close the app, move it to storage and see if it keeps working(Do NOT do this to apps you need, like your Firewall). If it stops working when you try to run it, or when you try to run it after a restart, then it needs internal memory.Battery: The battery is not much smaller than the screen size, which is what you want today’s smartphone battery to be, the size of the screen. Bluetooth is probably going to eat battery… certainly wouldn’t be the first phone to do that to. An unfirewalled phone will eat some battery, so the efforts to get your firewall down as tight as you can comfortably run it is worth it for the life of your battery. Battery saver should probably always be on, and some apps use more battery playing voice or music than others. The ESV Bible app, when playing voice, eats battery. Still, that Kristyn has one of the most amazing voices I’ve never paid for. It’s definitely one of the best voices I’ve ever heard, easily the quality of the best voices I have paid for. The battery is user replaceable.Operating System Updates: The two most popular lines of CAT update for 3 years, counting the year they come out. A phone that comes out in 2018 will have at least one update in 2020 – in my experience. However, the Cat s22 was not one of these 2 popular lines. The Cat s22 released in 2021 and updated into the middle of 2022.Keyboard: A lot of wimpering has been made on this keyboard. The screen is fully touchscreen, and so that while the Kika(the physical keypad) and the Gboard are installed, the Gboard is set as default. Simply set the Kika as the default keypad, and then go into settings and turn off the soft keypad display. You’ll find the Kika keyboard is very space efficient, definitely has a dictionary built in to guess words you haven’t finished typing, and doesn’t like spaces. Wait, what? My Japanese dictionary said Kika was a sunflower(rare)… so… that makes as much sense as anything else. Japanese doesn’t use spaces, it uses particles where spaces are. That is to say, if you press the space button, the Kika’s guesses clear, and it starts over. However, space-less sentences the Kika is very good at. Or, if you happen to be going for minimalism, and figure if you know enough words, one word should always do, the Kika has got you covered. What about the choices in the Google Play Store? There are three T9 keyboards in the Google Play store. One is from France, one is from England(Tappy), and one is from India. The most glitchy option is the one everyone recommends(Old T9), primarily because it works with the physical keyboard. Each of the T9 keyboards has a different set of language options, though I find Tappy’s option including the gaelics Irish, Scots Gaelic, and Welsh, as well as other languages, the most interesting. Japanese is available from the T9 keypad from France, but it seems to me that Tappy is the T9 option most cared for by the developer. That said, Tappy doesn’t appear to work with the physical keypad, or if it does, I don’t know how to do it, so Kika will do – because it is not glitchy like Old T9 is. Also, dice passwords from dmuth would be ideal using the Kika keyboard with something like KeePassDX + Donate. You could easily use it for a password chain of 8 words without spaces insanely fast with the Kika keyboard. That is, your KeePass password database could feasibly be safer because of the Kika keyboard than on your laptop.Compatibility: Most everything runs on this… save a few oddities… like Bible Apps? I mean, just for the craziest test, I installed the MMORPG Elemental Knights R Platinum, logged in(after I finally figured out how to make an account so it worked other place besides one phone – hint, the real username that is not shown is a random hexadecimal combination) and after I moved it to internal memory, it worked. Here I am, on a 2.8 inch touch screen, logging into an MMORPG successfully. Then OliveTree Bible doesn’t work. Explain that to me? If you have this phone and want to memorize scripture from the Holman CSB, then the Audio Christian Standard Bible, The Bible Memory App(You might prefer Fighter Verses to this one), and Bible Memory: VerseLocker would be a good trio of apps to own. eSword: Bible Study to Go and ESV Bible work well on the CAT s22 also. Especially with the 128 GB MicroSD SanDisk High Endurance, the need for space for CDs you imported from the laptop is ever present. Use Neutron Player and you can play .flac audio files on the CAT s22.Bloatware: This phone has bloatware, but not the sort that eats all your storage space, rather the sort that has no battery optimization options. There were 20 apps on my CAT s22 with no battery optimization options after all updates. The easiest solution is a Firewall, such Glasswire, or InviZible. Limit the apps that are allowed to communicate and your battery will be a LOT happier. There is no need to change permissions. You can choose what talks using the Firewall.Security: I run DNScrypt 24/7. The website and everyone else can know I’m coming when I get there, I don’t need a sign on my back while traveling. It’s a phone, though, they aren’t high security. The apple phone that had a fingerprint hacked was by someone who looked at pictures of the person on the internet who owned the phone until he found one that included a good picture of their finger. Ecryption is always CBC on storage. I mean, sure, you can set the memory card as part of the phone memory, run DNScrypt, get the firewall tighter – by maybe starting with limiting system apps that anti spy mobile pro flags, tighten your web browsers down a bit, use SilentNotes, and use Threema to talk to family… but the rest of the advertising is smoke and mirrors. (I find my comfort allowed system minimums with this Cat s22 using InviZible firewall are 1.Carrier Services, 2.Chrome, 3.DNS(R), 4.Gmail, 5.Google Go, 6.Google Play Store, 7.Google Play Services(GSF), 8.Internet Connectivity Check(R), 9.Meet, 10.Messages, 11.T-Mobile, 12.TDC, 13.YouTube,14.com.android.server.networkpermissionconfig(R) , though your comfort allowed system minimums may vary.)Annoyances: The throttling sometimes causes issues. Particularly if I am putting it through it’s paces because it’s a new phone to me and I want everything installed, logged in, and working by the weekend. I went from an 8core with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB RAM for app storage to this CAT s22, a 4core with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB RAM for most app storage. It’s a little different, but there is something nice about a flip phone. Now if I can just convince Kika that spaces are Kika’s friends.Camera: The display is 4:3 (480p, 640Hx480W), front & rear have 640×480 4:3 options(ratio=ratio, so proper display), however front & rear also have 16:9 higher resolution options marked as 4:3 options. It may be an image edit(app or desktop) away from a presentable picture, or simply mistaken notes. not a good choice for a dumbphone.. abandoned by CAT and Tmobile
EDIT: 1 stars. This phone has expandable memory, yet cannot handle an sd card formatted for extra internal memory. I’ve returned the phone, since thats a huge dealbreaker for me. Good luck having any pictures or data outside of a few apps with a measly 16gb internal. Not to mention it always read the sd as corrupted, and would restart itself randomly. Shame. I really liked this phone save for these issues.————I was looking to switch to a flip phone since the smart phone is too much these days. It was a big distraction for me at work and home and figured enough is enough.The Cat S22 Flip is like a dumphone with some smart features. Its running Android 11 and has the Google Play store meaning you can install apps on it. There are some issues I have with the device after approx. 5 days of usage though. 😓The native T9 keyboard on this phone is atrocious and you’re gonna want to get the ‘Old T9 Keyboard’ on the app store if you want to use the physical keyboard properly. It has expandable storage which I’ve been having some issues with (Rebooting causes the 128gb microSD I bought for it to wack out and deletes all my pictures/data..) thats an issue you may run into dealing with this phone. Sometimes it behaves well, other times not so much. But try not to handle it like a tanky Galaxy device, its processor does the job well but it does run a little slower as one would expect.The battery life is good. My previous phone (Galaxy S21) died almost every day! I was impressed to find out that the Cat S22’s battery has lasted almost 2 days on a single full charge. I downloaded some music and even during streaming that it didnt drastically drain the battery at all which has me suprised.

Not flawless but I Love it
Buy it here on amazon, stuck in custom clearence for one week lol. This is my review after one week using it.Price looks so cheap, it looks like a scam lol. But its not. It looks like its brand new when its arrived, it still has the plastic cover on both of its screen . It also came with usb C to 3.5 jack converter, pretty handy. Phone looks good, it looks sturdy. Im not gonna do drop test though, not because i feel it might fall apart, but because i love this phone lol. Its unlocked and ready to use for my country sim card.This phone isnt so laggy in my experience, though is not a strong phone in terms of processing power, But it does its job fine. It came with android go, its fine for me since i rarely used the feature of the full android. It can run my work app just fine, so its fine.Battery life is also fine, charged to 98% on 7am and it drained to 36 % on 11pm. Fyi im not using LTE a lot since i use my mobile wifi device. Im sure it will drain faster if i use LTE . I also turn off the keyboard light, using dark mode, and battery saving mode to save the battery more.The issue i found on this phone is on the sd card. I use sandisk ultra and i formatted it as internal, it works fine for the first time but when i want to move content again, it shows a failed notification “not enough storage space”. Might be the issue is on my sd card since its an old one. Might edit when i try with the new one.The other issue is security update is ended last year, though its minor for me but some might consider it a deal breaker.So.. this phone isnt flawless but i love it, since it works fine for me. Also i kinda like the attention my friend gave me when i use this phone lol. It got a very niche looks.

Absolute piece of crap — AKA exactly what I needed to break my phone addiction. Five stars!
I used to be in the habit of always reaching for my iPhone whenever I was idle. My iPhone was terrible for my mental health, and I wanted a phone that was a utility, not a perpetual attention-suck.So I decided to get a flip phone. But I wanted one that still had the basic utilities I use regularly: messaging (WhatsApp/Signal), GPS, wireless hot spot, 1Password, Spotify, etc. At the same time, I didn’t want something I liked too much or that was too inviting to use, because then I’d reach for it all the time.Enter the Cat S22. It’s perfect.First of all, the thing is a brick — a far cry from the sleek, thin flip phones we used to have in the early aughts. So I usually keep it in my bag or something, not in my pocket.Second, it’s got Android (albeit a stripped down version called Android Go), so I can download any app I want. I have the basics I’ve mentioned above, and I’m not even tempted to download e.g., Instagram or Facebook, because the screen is so tiny and the phone is so clunky to use that I’d never want to use those apps on it.Third, it’s slow as hell. I mean, some screen taps take full seconds to register. Google Assistant on this thing is a joke — most of the time, it’s faster to just do things manually. It completely gets in the way of idle usage because it’s such a freaking pain in the ass to use that you’d never even be tempted. For example, I’m still occasionally in the habit of reaching for my phone when I’m stopped at a red light to e.g., check text messages or something. But the S22 is so slow to switch between apps that it’s starting to beat that habit out of me.It’s worth mentioning that the integration between the T9 keyboard and the software keyboard is pretty crappy. Most of the time, I just want to do voice to text, so I just use the GBoard and click the mic icon instead of typing.One note in the plus column is that this phone is indestructible. I’ve dropped it a number of times and it’s still good as new.Aside from that: absolute garbage phone. So pick one up if you’re sick of being on your phone all the time!

Great Potential Squandered for Smart Features
I just want to make it clear that I purchased this phone because I’ve become completely disenchanted with modern technology, most notably humanity’s inability to take their faces out of their phones, including my own. I see smartphone addiction as a cancer upon the human condition and am actively seeking phones that allow for a healthier lifestyle. Phones that serve the most basic functions of a phone with as little to no distractions as possible. Trust me, I’m not the only one. There is a rapidly growing want among people for simplicity, for all the noise to leave their daily lives. We’re tired of being fed a constant stream of garbage through our devices and want to only be reachable by those who we know and love or those we work with.Let’s start with the things I don’t like. First of all, this thing is bulky. It very much reminds me of an old school RAZR V3 from the overall shape of the phone and the keyboard is also reminiscent. However, it’s about twice as thick, if not thicker, than the Razr. Surprisingly for me, that’s been more noticeable in the hand than in the pocket, and I don’t mind a thicker phone to hold. I’m sure someone with smaller hands than a 6 foot tall American man would completely disagree. Would I like the phone to be closer in size to the Razr? Absolutely. Making this thing thinner would be most welcomed.CAT, you all need to thin this baby down!Secondly, let’s talk about the PTT button on the side. This button is probably the number one or two worst part about this phone. Unless you have a buddy with the same phone, running the same PTT app, this button is just about worthless. If not using a PTT app, it’s only good for one thing and that’s assigning apps to the button for quick launch for either two clicks of the button or one long press of the button. However, if you’re like me and purchasing this thing to abandon smartphones and the always online lifestyle cold turkey and forever, the button is absolutely worthless. I shouldn’t say absolutely worthless, as it will be in your way for every phone call and you will hate the way it takes up hand grip room on the phone, as I do. My message to CAT would be either abandon this design idea or make two variations of this phone, one for construction and one for civilians.CAT, either get rid of the PTT button or make two versions of this phone.Second to last, it has too many smart features for my purposes. As I mentioned in the opening, I want a phone. I want it to call, to text, and to hold a charge for a week plus. That’s it. I don’t want a constant internet connection, no endless apps and scrolling, no games, no Facebook, no Google, I want to call and text. This phone is essentially a smartphone that folds. No kidding whatsoever. Just about every app you can imagine, you can download on this phone. The good news is you can either delete or disable every single app on the phone, which is a HUGE deal for people like me, as this ability is rare. Usually, if you buy a phone cluttered with worthless apps like Twitter, Facebook, and Google, you can’t get rid of them. You can here! Albeit it’s an android and Google you can’t get rid of, but you can disable every Google related app that won’t crash you operating system, which is good. However, I still don’t even want that much connectivity. In my perfect world, my phone can call, text, and maybe have Bluetooth for hands free calling. I literally want nothing else. To even purchase a phone with smart features makes me feel dirty at this point.CAT, are you listening!?!?Finally, there’s the texting. Just MY GOD. You have two jobs as a modern phone, to call and to text. Everything else are add-ons. This phone has fantastic call quality, make no mistake. But the texting… Eh. Let me just describe a senario for you. You try to respond to a text from a loved one. You pull it up, read it, click in the message box to reply and start typing. WAIT! There’s just a jumbled mess where you message should be. Oh, I’m supposed to use the virtual keyboard? I don’t like that can I switch to basic Abc texting or T9? Yes, you can, if you go into the settings and change your keyboard from the onscreen one to one called Kika preinstalled on the phone. Now, when you go to create your response, the keyboard will default to a backwards-ass version of T9, which I never cared for myself, but it may be your favorite. Who knows. But I prefer Abc because I learned to do it the long way and I’m incredibly fast & accurate at it, even today. Kika can change to Abc texting if you push the pound button, it will switch between T9, Abc, and abc texting. However, and this is a big however, Kika will default right back to T9 after EACH message, making you come back and push pound over and over and over again. As far as I can tell there’s no default you can set for this and it’s endlessly annoying. Now, if you prefer the onscreen keyboard or T9, no problem for you. But it’s a small problem, that’s been big for me and I’m sure others as well.CAT, you’ve got two jobs: call and text. Do it right.The biggest complaints from other reviewers were battery life, size, and a few others complained about the expandable memory. First of all, I’ve made my battery experience clear. The battery life is great if you turn off the crap and use it as a phone for calling and texting. If someone is complaining about the battery, I assume they are using this thing like a smartphone. Secondly, it’s size won’t change. It’s thick when it’s folded up but isn’t bad really when opened. I do hope they make the next version thinner, however. Lastly, the expandable memory. I have no idea how well it works, as I’ve not tried installing more memory. The only reason I would expand would be for music, which I’ve just turned my old Samsung Note 20 into an mp3 player. So, I have zero use for expanding the memory.What do I love about it?Battery life. When you delete or disable every possible unnecessary app, turn off WiFi, bluetooth, and mobile data & simply use this thing as a phone, the battery life will last for days. I mean like the entire work week, not a day and a half. If you have even just mobile data on, the battery life is absolutely butchered down to a couple of days, maybe three. With WiFi and mobile data, your looking at smart phone battery life numbers. But I keep all the unnecessary off and I get a solid 5 days out of it, which is great.I love the grippy feel of the phone. It feels made to last and of high quality. The button layout is fantastic and like I mentioned, will remind you of the Razr V3. The buttons click hard and feel sturdy and tactile.All apps can either be deleted or disabled, which I already went over but worth reiterating.Call quality is fantastic. Probably louder and more clear than my old Samsung Note 20.Most importantly, this phone allows me to shut out the outside world, allowing only those I want to contact me to contact me. No constant news articles or advertisements or social agendas being force-fed and other bull nobody cares about.For those reasons alone it’s worth the price and purchase. I wanted badly to give this phone at least 4 stars but can’t in good conscience, as it doesn’t deserve it. Almost but not quite.CAT, you guys are absolutely on the verge of having a true feature-less phone of the future. Fix what’s wrong, stop catering to Google and top this beast! The next Cat Flip could be the best basic, feature-less phone on the market by cleaning up these small problems. I promise the want exists and is only growing!

left it on top of my car while leaving a gas station; the rubberized chassis held on to the car on winding and hilly roads until i took a sharp left and it fell off in the middle of an intersection. only realized it was missing 5 minutes later and found it there. pretty scuffed up, not sure if it got run over, but it still functions. if it had been an iphone or other $1000 smartphone i’m sure it would’ve been toast.android OS in the form factor of a flip-phone; has browser, maps, email, apps, etc. but the touchscreen is tiny and not the most responsive, so it is great if you are looking for a dumb phone but might need maps/browser in an emergency.battery life is average, will hold a charge for a day of frequent use. speakers are a little quiet, but bluetooth functionality is intuitive and consistent, though it does drain battery faster. only complaint is that the T9 keyboard does not type letters by default, you need to install an app to do so (i recommend “Old T9 Keyboard”).a great conversation piece (“CAT makes a phone? the construction company? the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, off-highway diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives?”)

BAD: Comes already setup (past the agreement screen, everything is enabled for spying) no options to disable tracking/sharing (very smart from them). To fix and see the privacy settings, reset the phone in “settings”,”system”.Google, T-Mobile & phone manufacturer (China) make you agree to giving your personal information away. Small screenGood: Unlocked for T-Mobile/AT&T and their MVNO’s (did not test others) for T-Mobile (and MVNO’s) just insert the SIM, for AT&T (and MVNO’s) you need to get the “APN” settings from your provider and manually add it.First of all; the case-use for this flip is closer to a dumb phone (because of the small screen). BUT it is capable with Android Go. The phone is VERY THICK (Approximately: 12cms long x 6cms wide x 2.5cms depth) and HEAVY. Does not look good on my pant pockets because of the thickness and weight. If you will use it to make calls/SMS, WhatsApp, Authenticator, it’s fine. Email (emergency) is fine but the screen is too small. The same with everything else.If you keep it, don’t use your google ID to sign in (use the Aurora/F-Droid store), disable most of the Google/T-Mobile stuff (not Google Play if needed by your apps but Google Store can be disabled). When/If you disable all Google/T-Mobile apps make sure to do it in batches and restart the phone (everytime). Make sure to test your Wi-Fi. I believe if you disable Chrome it will crash your phones Wi-Fi. Just “reset” “networking” from “settings”. Also It might crash your router (your router will not give an IP to the phone) yes, that’s crazy! If that’s the case reset your router. If even that doesn’t work (you don’t get an IP from your router) then you will have to “reset” the “phone” completely and restart over. Make a note of the apps you disable to keep track (they can be re-enabled).Final thoughts: If used as an emergency and basic use (calls/SMS/basic messaging apps/WhatsApp) for $60+, it’s good. Did not get to try Universal Android Debloater…OTHERWISE get a small screen IPhone 4.7″/5″ inch screen (better battery life/better screen/faster/MINIMUM spying/NOT MAXIMUM) with a HUGE protective case or a dumb phone with same.

A Brief Romance., and a Quick Break-Up.
This is the most well-made, highest quality item I’ve ever received from Amazon that I am sending back. From the get-go, I understood the limitations. It’s a flip phone that has a tiny, tiny touch screen. I just came from an iPhone SE (2nd gen) and I knew the screen’s real estate would be much smaller, roughly half the size of what I was working with before, but I was prepared to accept that. I assumed there were workarounds that would enable me to use it, with some restrictions. But right away, I had some trouble with the on-screen Gboard keyboard. I’d try to punch a letter, but more often than not I hit the wrong one. It was frustrating, because it took a very long time to sign into Google to even activate the thing. I must have fat fingers, I thought to myself, so I ordered a stylus used for touchscreens. That took a couple of days, and when it arrived I used it carefully, making sure I was precisely hitting the letters exactly — and in about half of the cases it still spit out the wrong letter. Sometimes I just got a symbol, not remotely resembling the letter I was trying to type. It was never my intention to use this phone for word processing, I knew that was out of the question — but to not even be able to do simple messaging, that was infuriating. I’ve used other Android and Apple devices before, over the course of nearly 20 years, but this was the worst typing experience I’ve ever had. I understand that this is meant to be a work phone. It’s incredibly well-constructed and very tough, I’m sure of it. The phone’s external speaker is nice and loud and I’m sure it’s good for years of service on a work site of some sort, but if I can’t use the keyboard, it’s no good to me. I’ve seen nothing but glowing reviews about how wonderful this phone is, but my real world use case says otherwise. I had high expectations for this phone. I really, really wanted to love it and I was prepared to deal with its limitations, but we’re completely wrong for each other.

Great phone for adventure sports or extreme conditions but too heavy considering battery life
I’ve been using this device for a few weeks now and there are pros and cons. I planned to use for my outdoor workouts but it’s practical enough and has become my main away from home device.The pros:- It doesn’t take much space in pockets like a full size phone. During workouts this can be very convenient.- Under extreme conditions, too hot, too cold, too sweaty, too rainy, etc, having a physical keyboard is a life saver and may be the only option to communicate.- Unlike other phones which typically run KaiOS in the best case, this runs Android which allows to install apps from the Google Play store which can be useful for many purposes.- Being a flip phone, the screen is protected from scratches while not in use, so no need to add an extra protective layer- The PTT (push to talk) button is probably the best feature. The zello app allows to use it and does not require to open the phone for it to work, sometimes I don’t even take the phone out of the pocket if I carry it in a running vest. I just press it inside the pocket and start talking to communicate. Messages are received without having to take out the phone or press any button, hands free so it’s very practical during a workout or competition.The cons:- UI navigation can be cumbersome with the keypad and it takes time to get used to the Kika keyboard to send messages. Some apps may not even support a keypad and most are implemented with a touch screen in mind so you’ll have to use the touch screen from time to time- Depending on the use and background apps, the battery may last from a bit less than a day to a day and a half, maybe 2 days with battery saver, but given the weight of the phone I’d expect more. I have another rugged phone, although a bit heavier, but with lots of apps, some background processes and heavy used it lasts about day and half to 2 days in a few occassions. I’m definitely willing to pay more for a more lightweight version of this phone or for an increased battery size at the same weight.- Android Go does not support the Wear os. I’d love to be able to connect it with my wear os watch. I still have to use another device for that. It would be great if I can answer income calls or receive notifications with my watch instead of having to take the phone out.

Small Screen
Bought this for my elderly mother who has tremors so couldn’t use the typical cell phone but she had to practice opening this phone and the screen is so small even on the largest text setting that she is still struggling with it. We will keep it for now until we can find a better replacement.

I REALLY want to love this phone…. but the battery…
Everything about this is what a flip phone needs/should have….almost.The touch screen is just the right size, you can change text and ui elements to be larger or smaller. It is also responsive enough to tapping the screen.The keyboard is… a dream, just like the good old days.The phone is TOUGH, water proof, and of course a flip phone.The real issue though is the battery. Due to the older processor onboard, the phone is very power INNEFFICENT. idle drain varies from 2-5% per hour with the phone resting on a desk. Using the phone can make it drop muuuuuch faster. Much faster than my “old” full-screen smart phone when watching even a youtube video at max brightness.EVEN though you can swap the battery out, it has a screw, and a rubber gasket on the removable back that will wear out over time. On top of just, I do not want to be rationing my phone battery in an 8-10 hour period. My expectation was to be swap batteries in the field every other day or at the end of a day of heavy map usage. Currently, It looks like id have to swap…. 2-3 times A DAY.The other issue is that this phone is SO QUIET. Calls on speakerphone will be hard to hear. Listening to any audio in an environment that is not perfectly quiet with the speaker will be impossible.Lastly, and most unfortunately, this device is basically abandoned by CAT. They never made a dock for this phone, even though the phone has charging pins on the back.Summary:+ Keyboard+ Screen Size+ Flip-Phone Form Factor- Insanely poor battery life with use OR idle- Phone is forgotten by CATYou wont really find an acceptable flip phone at this price that performs better, but if you need something that does perform better, and have a bigger budget, check out the Kyocera Flip phones, they are similarly hardened and mil-spec or the new Samsung flip phones if a mil-spec flip phone isn’t a requirement for you!

Interesting
At the moment it’s a really nice phone, I’m still learning how to use it, it’s able to give hotspot, texting very nice, touchscreen very cool. You’re able to see videos on YouTube; just in case of an emergency 😅. The volume is very nice especially for calls and speaker 🔈. No complaints at the moment, just got it since it was cheaper than most smartphones. Wasn’t expecting that much from a flip phone, but this one is my tops. Do recommend it!

At the current price at time of this review (~$70) this an absolute steal. You can’t beat this phone for that price. It’s indestructible, and does everything it should. It does require a little tech savvy to properly set it up (The built-in T9 app is atrocious, but installing a 3rd party app called Traditional T9 takes care of that) but once you delete the bloatware, install a decent launcher like Before Launcher, and figure out how to navigate it with only the buttons, this thing comes alive. It isn’t the snappiest android experience, but that’s not the point. The point is to unplug and settle into a more minimal lifestyle while also being able to use some smart apps when necessary, as these apps have infiltrated every aspect of daily life.The phone does work with T-mobile, any T-mobile MVNO, as well as AT&T and its MVNOs. Some AT&T carriers may require some manual APN setup to get it to work. It will not work with Verizon as far as I know.If you’re considering trying to move away from a smart-phone-dominated lifestyle, you can’t go wrong with the S22. It lets you do what you absolutely need to do, but the small screen prevents doom scrolling and other addictive smartphone traps.

Spotty coverage with no 5G
If you’re trying to use your smartphone less (like I was), but still need some smartphone apps (like I did), then this phone is probably the best option available. You’ll hate using it’s tiny screen and slow processor… and that’s the point. I would’ve gone to a true dumb phone, but I still needed a handful of apps – like the Tesla app, Sonos, Google Home, etc.If you’re choosing this phone, just make sure that you have strong LTE coverage because it lacks 5G. I knew that going in, but didn’t think it would be an issue. After a few frustrating times where I lost signal in places where I never used to and missed important calls, I had to go back to my old smartphone for the 5G coverage. If this phone had 5G I’d probably still be using it today.

T Mobile only
This is a really nice phone but sent it back because it ies not unlocked. It is only through T Mobile. I verified this with a call to the Cat customer service department. The description is a little misleading. If you have T Mobile it would be a great phone.

Strong & works.
The media could not be loaded.
Can be Difficult to insert sim. Also, if Sim is inserted exactly right Cats22 won’t recognize it. Small screen; not recommended if vision isn’t good or fingers big.

It’s a phone with benefits
If you’re looking for a portable entertainment center, this isn’t for you. It’s a phone with functionality for other stuff, but it’s primary purpose is a phone. Screen is too small for playing games or reading, which is why I got it. I found the “phones” today a somewhat addictive; been spending way too much time on them. It’s time to get out of that rut, and this is the way out. I use it for what it is – a durable phone with a decent battery life. It’s time to find entertainment someplace else.

Not a perfect product but it works mostly.
The phone came in on time in new packaging. The phone appeared brand new which was great and I was very excited. Unfortunately it did not come unlocked as was advertised but i was able to unlock it myself with only a little bit of work. After unlocking it worked on AT&T with a few exceptions. There is an issue with the audio on the phone USB-C headphones don’t work. Ive tried multiple sets it just doesn’t register any of them. This wouldn’t be a huge deal since Bluetooth headphones work great. My big issue is the speaker phone doesn’t work at all. they cant hear me and I cant hear them the speaker works for all other apps just not calls. This is a problem i need a speaker phone unfortunately i cant return it because i need a phone. I’m a firefighter and a paramedic and need to call hospitals and other critical places when on shift. I love this phone but i need to replace it soon now because of this. also the battery is very weak not lasting a full day. I love the phone and want to give it 5 stars so bad but i just cant. The only reason i haven’t returned it is i cant be without a phone for the days it takes to return it and get a replacement. if all features worked it would be a 5 star phone though i love the thing

Buttons keep double pressing and it is incredibly aggaravating
I really wanted to love this phone. I switched to this from an iphone to kinda tone the app and phone usage and it worked. I used only whatsapp and spotify which this does work well except spotify is a bit laggy. Gmail crashes every time I try using it so that’s annoying. The problem I am having is whenever I type a number or try texting the “3” button keeps double pressing. This happened after about 2 weeks of use every now and then but now its constantly doing it. Currently number “6” is starting to have the same issue that I am very turned off from this phone. I loved it for what it was, phone calls worked well and everything. I am also having problems with the orange side button sticking into itself. not a deal breaker but I use it to open Whatsapp easily and also turn on my flashlight without having to go into the settings. Cool phone but very upset with how it has held up over such a short period of time.

Better than I thought
This phone is awesome, especially for the price. I bought the first one for myself from a different online vendor. It arrived and was exactly what I wanted, so much so that my husband wanted one too. Bring us to Amazon, where it was priced better and you have the Amazon A to Z guarantee. My husbands phone arrived and he was just as happy as I was. It can function as a sort of smart phone if that’s what you want, but we bought it for the opposite reason. We love that this phone actually gives you the option to shut down apps, you have control over what can run and what can’t, unlike other smart phones that have tons of unnecessary apps running in the background. The battery charges quickly and lasts much longer than other devices. The audio is loud and clear. The only change is that the keyboard is either on screen or an odd version of the number pad, not like the old school version but something drastically different. I’ll will be looking into the downloadable keyboard another review mentions. If you do opt to use the screens keyboard, it IS shockingly accurate for how tiny it is. Even my husband, who has larger fingers than I do, has no issues using the tiny screen pad to type if he has to. All in all it’s a great SOLID phone. Like a slightly thicker and more durable RAZR.

Can’t really give it an honest review…..
We didn’t need the phone after all…. But it was too late to send it back for a refund. I bought it for an elderly family member who constantly complains about their smart phone… Ok let’s try a flip phone. It’s a 5g running android 11… Perfect….the family member changed their mind. Well… We are stuck with the phone. I may give it a try for grins and giggles and see if it’s any good. I will update my review then.

Everything I needed!!
The phone works great on my 15 dollar connect by T-Mobile. It has wifi calling that works great and just enough smarts for me. Android 11 is a lot better than KaiOS!

Great phone
My son ordered this phone to try and cut back on screentime. He didn’t like it and ended up returning it. I figured as much would happen and he would want to ultimately keep his iphone…… first world problems.

Love my new flip phone
I like that it fits in a small holster that I can clip onto my belt. I had a smartphone but since I don’t use it for watching videos and it was overkill for my needs I decided to try a rugged flip phone that can be dropped without the screen cracking. Also I can wear it outdoors in the rain without worry. One of the features that I have found by accident is that I can get rid of telemarketer and politician notifications by scrolling down to the bottom of the notifications and click on the three stacked dots and select delete all and they all disappear. Of course I review them and I am scrolling down to make sure that none of them are important.

Good
Phones are too big now a days love the size ,and the fact it’s flip phone the touchscreen is small but after a while you get used to it. only complaint is the 16 GB of storage, but you can download almost any app or game no problem

Had to factory reset….
Just got this phone, it is sturdy, looks like it will withstand the abuse our phones get.Easy access to sim cardholder, the cover for the sim card flips up!Push back and up to open, insert card, Push forward them up to close.The issue is I had to factory reset… apparently, I have been sent a used phone sold as a new phone.Otherwise, this will probably be a good phone.Will update after we use it for a while or return, not sure what I’m going to do about this reset issue.

Lots of Bells and Whistles
For an older person like myself, I was a little overwhelmed by the technology after surviving with a dinosaur style flip phone from another company. Unfortunately, my SIM did not work on the phone and I ended up changing carriers to one more compatible. It’s a great phone for the price and I am very glad I bought it.

Really well made phone!!
I loved the design and construction of this phone. I think it can survive dropping out of a plane or speeding car. The holster for it is equally well made. Yes, it is big, but a construction worker or truck driver. etc. will love this phone. However, it did not seem to work properly with the SIM card for my network, so I returned it. Dang.

AMAZING
I don’t review products normally, but omg this is the best phone for the price. You can use it on Mint mobile too! (You have to manually enter the APN accesspoint, but the mint mobile website walks you through that)I don’t scroll, I have spotify, uber, maps and such, it’s the perfect phone for a digital detox with out loosing some nice to haves.

Downgraded my phone to upgrade my life
Was looking to for a way to reduce screen time and the endless mindless scrolling on the phone. I justified keeping my standard smart phone because I might need directions or may need to look something up on the internet on the fly. So I thought I would need to go down to a dumb phone that only placed calls and then purchase a GPS for my car. Then I discovered this beauty. For half the cost of the GPS, I got a phone that does it all. The screen is large enough that if I needed to find something on the internet or a map, I can. Its small enough that I won’t unless I really need to.
