It’s well made with a solid feel . The balls are wood so older kids (my 4 yr old vs 1 yr old) need to be careful throwing them. It’s super cute and my baby seems to like the xylophone and the push-ball portion too!

Endless play
I’m always amazed at how children can be so mesmerized by a toy that does the same thing over and over again. My nephew loved this for him bday. The only complaint was that the balls it came with got dented in pretty easily. Luckily, they had balls from another toy that worked well with this one.

Great Gift!
We love Hape Toys and this toy lives up to expectations. We bought this for both an older baby and a toddler and both seem to enjoy it very much. Even our 5yr old likes playing with it. It is excellent quality. Both the wood and paint holds up very well to repetitive, rough play. Our baby enjoys clapping the balls together and off the xylophone. Attempts to use the little hammer are helping her motor skills. The sound quality of the xylophone itself is good – my husband can even play a Star Wars themes on it!
I have only two reasons for giving it 4-stars instead of 5: 1) sometimes the balls do not roll after they are hit through the hole – which could be because of old uneven floors – but if I lift the handle ever so slightly they roll with ease… so the angle of the xylophone in the stand could be just a little greater to prevent this; and 2) although the toy is compact and stores away nicely, there is no where to secure the hammer. We place ours inside the stand on top of the xylophone but the opening where the balls to exist is too large allowing the hammer to fall out easily. BUT, all and all it is a fantastic toy that we would recommend to others.

My one-year-old grandson LOVED THIS GREAT QUALITY TOY!
This is two toys in one. There are smooth wooden balls that can be pounded with a hammer AND a removable xylophone with an attached playing stick. Bought this for my oh-so-busy-and-curious grandson’s first birthday. It was a big hit as he was able to pound the balls down onto the xylophone using his hands. Other benches I’d tried required more force and coordination than a one-year-old is capable of. His parents loved it because the stick for playing the xylophone was sturdily attached to the removable xylophone, which made it safer, and because of the GREAT QUALITY of the toy overall. Since the hammer is not attached to the bench and will fit in his mouth, we chose to pack it away for use with the bench when he is older.

This is just annoying that the box came with a hole in it and I’m giving this as a present. In addition this was delivered inside a box which was not damaged so not sure what happened. Just annoying……

Did not arrive with proper part
The Hape Pound and Tap Bench was described as safe for 12 + month old babies. The tapping tool for the xylophone was pictured as a safely designed, flexible tool which I had not seen anywhere else. It was the reason I ordered this one. When the set arrived, it came with a hard and pointed wooden stick instead, not safe for toddling infants just learning to walk. I called the company and they are out of the proper tools, didn’t know when they’d get more in. It appears sturdy and well made but in my view, not good for little ones.

My son’s favorite toy!
This was one of my son’s favorite toys when he was 1-3 years old. I got for him for his 1st Christmas (he was 10 months old). He is now almost 5 and I got rid of his old one, but my nephew is 14 months old and I just bought one for him for Christmas too! Great price, but I got on sale!

Grows with your baby
My 8-month-old granddaughter has found many ways to play with this toy. The mallets are apparently great to chew on. She also uses them to tap on anything she can find to see if she can make noise. I was concerned that she could gag herself with them, but this hasn’t been a problem. The balls also serve the same purpose. And the bench makes oddly satisfying sounds.There are two downsides to this toy. 1. The xylophone is tinny and off-pitch (baby doesn’t care but it bugs me) and 2. there are several parts to the toy, which means tracking them down if you want to play with all of it.

Could be better with a couple of easy tweaks
This xylophone bench is a pretty toy – it feels solid, the wood is good quality and the paint is vibrant. The balls are very solid and heavy, which is great now, although there may be a time when I have to take them away for fear of them going through a window. My triplets love picking up the mallet and banging on the xylophone and they also like rolling the balls around, although they haven’t gotten the hang of knocking the balls through yet. It’s nice that the xylophone comes out to give flexibility to the toy before kids are old enough to hammer the balls through. There are two things that would make this a better toy, though – 1. The xylophone is drastically out of tune. I read this in other reviews before purchasing and thought it was a silly complaint about a child’s toy, but it really is pretty annoying. It’s not that the notes are a little sharp or flat, they are just bad. When I try to play little songs like Mary Had a Little Lamb for the kids, the song is not a little off, it’s unrecognizable. Similarly, running the mallet down the xylophone does not create a pleasing noise. That means when the kids are too old to enjoy random noise and ball hammering, the toy will be useless because the xylophone cannot be used as an actual instrument, even a rudimentary one. 2. The balls (when knocked through the holes) roll too quickly down the xylophone. They basically bounce off two notes simultaneously and out the hole. I’m sure the kids will still appreciate that when they hammer the ball through it makes a noise, but if the xylophone had been a little less sloped, maybe, the ball would have rolled nicely down and played a soothing scale. Assume the xylophone tubes made a scale, which they do not (see 1. above). In summary – it’s a nice toy that looks like it will last, but the couple of issues I have seem like missed opportunities to create a toy that would be fun for older children (and their parents) as well.

Excellent quality, cool toy!
We love this toy! Honestly I think it’s my favorite toy my kiddo owns, lol. My toddler who is now 20 months, has had this toy for a little over 6 months now and still plays with is almost daily.The craftsmanship is wonderful, it’s extremely sturdy, I’ve caught the little guy briefly standing on it(until mom comes running over to stop him, of course) multiple times and he’s 25 pounds. Even all the removable parts and constructed very well. You can tell that this company really cares about quality.Here’s a breakdown of how the toy works: when the xylophone and the balls are all in place, the child hammers each ball through (takes a 2-3 taps) and the ball rolls down the xylophone hitting the metal pieces making a pleasant sound on its way. It’s very easy to use, and it’s an easy concept for the learning toddler. I’d say at 1 year and up is a great age, earlier than that maybe just the xylophone part and close monitoring with the hammer as it could pose a choking hazard (long handle). The xylophone is removable if the child feels like just a jam sesh on it which is great, it has a little handle for easy portability and my little one likes to just run around with it sometimes. Another great thing is that other objects work fine at making music on this xylophone, even a plastic megablox piece for example, which allows a little room for creativity and exploration of materials.I do wish they sold extra wooden balls though, or maybe if it came with an extra set. If your playroom, or toy box is anything like mine, there are lots of little things and stuff like that can easily get seperated and temporarily misplaced. After all this time, that is the only draw back for me.(…)

Favorite Toy
We gave this to my daughter for her 1st birthday and she LOVED it. It was the perfect gift for her developmental stage. She favored it over all her other gifts (and other toys) and spent long sessions playing with it daily. She’s 15 months now, and still loves playing with it. This is a great bang for your buck toy. The balls are just the right size for her hand, and loves those on their own (she has many balls, but favors these). She’s always carrying them around the house. Pushing the balls through the holes is really fun to her. You have to push just a little to get them to go through, it’s a good challenge, but it never frustrates her. She always claps when they go in. The xylophone tinkling as it rolls down is very satisfying. It’s also fun on it’s own to make music. Then the hammer option is another element that she thinks is fun. All these things help her develop her motor movements. It’s a smart toy. It combines the Montessori ball drop, music, hammer, etc. Can’t say enough great things about this toy. Quality is fabulous and it looks nice. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. (My mom’s dog chewed up one of the balls, but we were able to order a replacement set that fit perfect from Hape.)

Love this produce
I bought this as a gift for a first bday. My kids loved ball hammer toys when they were young. I was hesitant because, usually, I’m not too fond of xylophone toys because they typically sound so bad. This one sounds great! As the balls fall through the holes they ding the music, which is a nice touch. The child can easily remove the xylophone and carry it around. This is one of the favorite toys for the 1 and 2-year-olds I watch!

Good except for paper songs
Good quality and my son likes it (as does his 5-year-old sister haha). Only complaint is that the songs that come with it are on a long paper, so that got torn right away. Thicker paper/cardboard would be much better

Fun for all
My daughter cracked up every time Miss Rachel used this so we bought her one for her 1st Birthday. She loves to bang on the balls and xylophone and her other toys with the mallet. Sometimes when I’m playing with the Xylophone she decides it’s her turn and takes over for me. She has yet to hit herself or the dog so that is great!

Very happy!
I gave this to my grand-daughter (7 months). even though the recommended beginning age is 1 year. She does fine with close adult supervision and limited play (she can lift it and bang it around if we allowed). I like to get toys with several developmental activities that will last a long time and this fits the bill.At her age, we played with the balls (very brightly colored and large enough so not to be a choking hazard). She could easily grab and hold them, put them in and out of buckets; she really was interested in tracking them as they slowly rolled on the hardwood floor.She tried to put them in the designated holes on the bench, but I don’t think she fully grasps that task yet.Very interested in the sounds when we pushed them through the holes and watching them roll out! Encouraged her to semi-crawl and reach for them. I tapped them in with the hammer to get them through, but it took some force (she can’t do it yet) and it’s a little loud!I love that it’s two toys in one with the xylophone that pulls out and used by itself. A WORD OF CAUTION WITH THE HAMMER: We will not let her play with the hammer without close supervision. The long handle is a definite choking hazard! She could tap it to play music when we held it with her. We also hit the keys with the balls and they made music – safer for babies her age. The sound on this one was fine – in tune enough as expected for a toy.Non-toxic; the colors are very bright and interesting to a child. Well built and seems it will be long-lasting. So much to learn (colors, numbers, shapes, fine/gross motor skills, cause-effect, music!). For all that – I think the price is very reasonable.

I bought this toy for my one year old, but my four year old has also enjoyed it. It is great quality, and I really like that you can take the xylophone out and use it separately. Plus it came with a fun set of instructions so you can play songs on the xylophone when your child is older. So far we love it!

He LOVES this. So many fun things he can do. The only reason I took away one star was because the green ball slot is just a little too large, and sometimes the ball just falls through on it’s own. But the wooden balls are amazing – he loves to hit them together and hammer them or push them through onto the xylophone. He also loves sliding the xylophone in and out. Great toy!

This is a great quality toy. Love that the xylophone can be pulled out to use as a music toy separate from the ball frame. My now one year old received this when she was nine months old and within a few weeks had figured out how to use the hammer to bang on the balls. She also enjoys banging the balls together and rolling them. My 2 and 3 year old nephews also enjoy playing with this toy when they come over. We’ve only had it a few months but it seems very durable and I anticipate using it for years to come. One feature that I do wish this had which I’ve seen on others is a built in tray to catch the balls as they do roll out quickly and on tile floors like ours tend to get lost.

Xylophone sounds amazing. Ball thing is weird.
I think I got this for myself. The xylophone sounds so good for the price that I find myself using it to make melodies for new songs to write. The hammer and ball thing works fine, although I thought it’d make the xylophone ring out a little louder upon dropping the balls on it. That part doesn’t really matter though. It’s been dropped a few times and still works great. Xylophone for the win.

Wonderful Gift for a Young Child
I ordered this for my 11 month old grandson. I was not sure if he would be able to use it yet, but the hammer that comes with it was perfect for his little hands. It teaches hand/eye coordination. He loves hitting the balls as well. This was a great gift. I highly recommend it. I am very pleased with my purchase.
