Recently, Kanu Surf has launched its brand store which now offers its complete line of swim trunks and swimwear. Just click the logo at the top of the product page to shop high quality Kanu Surf products for the whole family in one convenient location.

Kanu continues to innovate and bring great new styles consistently to stores across the country: swim trunks, boardshorts, rashguards, swim shirts. Styles that are functional and colorful— for competition, relaxation, a day at the beach— for everyone.

    True rash guard sizing

It’s always tricky buying these type of tops. Many advertise themselves as both a fishing shirt and a rash guard. Which is a contradiction in terms as a fishing shirt is designed to run large and a rash guard is designed to run small/sung. Since I already have rash guards I wanted something that runs sung enough to be flattering, but not as tight as a true rash guard. I wear a medium in rash guard, but most fishing shirts run too large even in small. I found one brand that I really like, but they only came in gray. The small in this brand was too tight (looks too showy) for a flattering casual top, too tight in shoulders/ chest/biceps. I will exchange for a medium as I assume that will run a little larger than a rash guard would in that size. If that is still too tight/showy for a casual top, I may have to exchange for a large. If you have a gut (which I don’t), you probably will have to order a size up. But other than that, it seems like a very nice shirt for the price. I will update with the medium arrives.

It smells awful but by god is it comfy

Disclaimer: I don’t surf.I recently started working at a Wienerschnitzel. I work the hot dog station, where just about everything is steamed. The chili, the buns, the nacho cheese, the sauerkraut, everything except the meat is steamed. Needless to say, it gets VERY humid at my station. And after a few weeks of standing over a hot steamer for 8 hours a day, I started to notice that I was chafing something fierce, to the point where it stung just to take a shower. So, I ordered this. The first thing I noticed is that it stinks. Really stinks. Straight out of the package, it smells like someone dumped a pack of cigarettes into a tire fire. The second thing I noticed is that it is very form fitting. I’m a bit on the heavy side, and when I put it on, it pretty much left nothing about the shape of my gut to the imagination. But thankfully, I wear my uniform over it, so that’s not much of a problem. The third and most important thing though, is that it is SUPER comfortable. I don’t know how, but despite the tightness of this shirt, it is extremely ventilating. To quote Ned Flanders, “It feels like I’m wearing nothing at all!”So, this rashguard? Even though it’s made for surfing, it’s useful for other purposes as well. If your occupation makes you sweat a lot and you don’t like the chafing, consider grabbing this!

Fits small but good rash guard shirt

Sizes can differ. We bought medium in black, fit perfect. Bought medium in grey too small. Finally ordered xl and fits great. Husband about 160 lbs 5 ft 4 inch so order larger than you think you are 😉 it feels light weight and he said very comfortable not restricting his movement like previous ones have. Haven’t had chance to use on vacation but will update if there’s any notable surprises.

Great for swimming, careful of size

This is my second one. The first one was way too tight. Great for swimming, doesn’t chafe and protects skin from sun (still wear sunscreen!!!). The only negative is this is very form fitting so I don’t wear it unless I’m swimming (boob huggers)

Fits tight for endomorph body types

I know these are supposed to fit tight, but mine is restrictive. I’m 5’6″ and 240lbs of muscle fat strong man body, and I ordered the XXL. I had gotten the same Kanu shirt before in XXL and didn’t realize it. Had I known I would have ordered another brand. This thing is tight. So tight it is restrictive. If you were a normal body it probably fits tight but not too tight. If you are built like a Neanderthal cave man (like me) your chest will be squeezed and it feels like you’re going to rip the sleeves off when you move your arms.

  12. F. Gibbons

    4.0 out of 5 stars

Snug (but true) fit; mock turtle neck is uncomfortable on larger necks.

Sizing is as shown in the figure. I’m 5’10”, 180lbs, and the large was skintight as shown. Not uncomfortably so, but not flattering on a dadbod like mine. The neck on this shirt is very snug (on my 16.5″ neck), and is almost like a mock turtle (very similar to what my kids wear). I get that it’s for protection, but I’ll use a little suncreen to do my face and neck. Sleeves also quite snug. If you’re truly looking for a rashguard (as in, stop rashes from arms rubbing against the side of your surfboard as you paddle out), then the sizing is true, and I bet this is a fine product. But I’m looking for a shirt to swim in (and stand around in the water making sure my kids are safe), that’s comfortable without being baggy. There are other products out there that are a better match for my needs (‘swim shirt’)..

    Standard Rash Guard

I am a beach lifeguard and I got this rashguard so I could have something to wear while patrolling on the back of the jet ski. It is pretty standard, slippery surface rash guard like the ones I wore in the early 2000’s. Keeps the sun off my back and rashes off my chest and stomach, which is all I really need it for. The collar is a little uncomfortable for me because I am used to the looser, more shirt-like rashguards I wear while surfing. Overall, a good rashguard for the money if you go to the beach a few times each summer.

Happy with purchase…read this for size information…

Wanted a rashguard for kayaking…not for surf play. Sleeves are long enough and body fit just right for this kind of activity. It is a little loose in the right places for movement. Small stand-up collar just enough for helping with sun exposure on the neck. I am 6’3″ @ 165 lbs. and normally would have stayed with large, which would have been fine for the surf. I originally purchased a size large and exchanged it for XL (and knew this is how it would have all played out …but just wanted to know for sure). I hope this review helps others with their decision. And quality/fabric right onspot…would recommend once you can determine what kind of “fit” you are looking for. For those curious about what kind of kayaking, this for summer sea kayaking. I use all weather gear from NRS for cooler weather…but wanted lightweight wear for summer. Therefore…true to size for main use of a rashguard…but adaptable for other activities on the water.

    Does the job, comfortable

As a fair-skinned person, I tend to burn after ~15 minutes of direct sunlight. This certainly makes the sunscreen companies very happy, but in order to avoid the dermatologists down the road I have instead opted to avoid the burn entirely.First, this shirt fits fairly tight around the neck/chest. It’s supposed to. It would not be helpful if it fit loose or rode up in the front/back.It dries out very quickly after coming out of the water and clings to the skin after it is wet. Expect this too.I have only washed a few times now, but already the white emblem on the front is starting to peel off – not a deal-breaker, but it looks worn and a little tacky now. Maybe this should be a gentle-only cycle or hand-wash only.Overall this gets the job done! No more lobster skin for me!

    Order up 1 size

Order 1 size larger than normal like most reviews say. My hubby wears a US Large. I ordered an XL and it fits perfect. Here’s 6′ 1″ 220lbs. Blue color was as pictured. He wanted it for in winter at the water parks in WI Dells to be a little warmer. The places are heated but just a tad cold and we think this will help.UPDATE: it did help with the cold! Not 💯 but we knew that. We weren’t shivering like others when they got out of the water.I also bought the gray for my FIL. I ordered 1 size up again and he said it fit perfect! We are all happy with the shirts!

    This worked great!

I know a lot of reviewers are talking about sizing. I’m 5’11” and thin and lanky. I usually wear large regular shirts so I ordered a large here. Simply put, other than sleeves being slightly short, this fit me well. It wasn’t a super super tight fit. It was a bit loose. But for me that was fine. I’m sure people purchase shirts like this for a variety of different reasons. For me, it was just to go to the beach in Bermuda and not get sunburned while swimming.I don’t surf or do any water sports so I can’t speak to using this shirt for activities like that. But I do know, thanks to this shirt, I did not get sunburned. And I also know if I ordered a medium, the sleeves would have been WAY too short since it was already slightly short on the large.

    Love this rash guard shirt!

I purchased probably about 15 shirts and of those I think I keep this one and 3 others. Stylish, great fit and good color. WISH THERE WERE MORE COLOR OPTIONS!!! *hint hint* Quick easy clean, quick drying as well. Even in 100 degree weather I didn’t feel hot or overheated with the long sleeves. Simply wet if needed and ahhhh cool. Hopefully they will get more colors, I could use a few more color options. I did notice the pricing changed a few times. Think I got this on a try before you buy. (I ordered medium and sent back for small and the small works well for me).

Did not run small, was regular shirt size

I am 5’7″ at 148 lbs. Chest size around 36-37 inches. Biceps at 13″. I got the medium because some people say this runs small. I wanted something tight fitting so I can snorkel in it without drag. This shirt does not run small. It runs as expected like a regular medium T shirt. From just the looks of it, I could tell this is just a regular looking shirt size of M. When I put it on, it fit a bit loosely on my like a regular medium shirt. For those that are going for this look, then order your regular size. For me, I am returning it and going with a small. I need something snug/tight on me for minimal drag.Quality of this shirt is excellent. Made for water sports. Not that thin material for working out in.EDIT:So I bought a small, their smallest option. The neck is loose. Stomach area really loose, arms loose. My chest however look like it had ok fitment. This product fitment is not made to be snug against people with small stomachs that are similar to my build. You need to be buff , big or overweight to fit snug in this kind of rashguard. I realize that this product is supposed to be like a shirt to just block sun and not meant to be skin tight. Despite this fact, there are areas in this shirt like the stomach area that is extremely baggy. I have a BMI of 22.2 which is in the upper range of normal. If you jump into the water with this, the bottom of the shirt would fly up. Because it is so loose, it would create a lot of drag while swimming. I would NOT recommend if you are smaller than me. 5’7″ at 145 lbs.Images show size SMALL

    Nice sun shirt

Bought this to wear for an all day boat trip – knew we would be out in the sun all day and didn’t want to worry about applying sunscreen non stop so bought this so I could just wear it most of the trip and not burn. It did the trick and was comfortable and somewhat stylish.

Only bummer is I didn’t buy this sooner.

This fit just as it should. I am 6′ 0″ and weigh 226 lbs. and got an XL. At first it seemed tight but I think that is just because I am not used to wearing form fitting shirts. I was also trying it on at the house not wearing it in the water. I also don’t like things around my neck so the high neck on the shirt did not feel comfortable. I decided to give it a try anyway and just cut a V-neck in if I needed to. When I put it on at the beach I was busy getting kids stuff ready and didn’t even notice the neck, after getting in the water I never wanted to take it off. It fit well and I prefer the tight fit because the shirt doesn’t swing away and then come back cold. Instead it just stays against you slightly cooling you while you are wet and making it so you don’t feel the wind as much. Also the shirt is long enough that even when bending over to make sand castles with the kids my lower back was not exposed. The BEST part is no sun screen. Just hit your legs feet and face and your done. Super quick and no help needed. My wife missed a spot on my back less than a week before I got this at the beach that got pretty red. This material didn’t bother it, and the spot didn’t get any more burnt when I went for an 8 hour day at the beach. The burn actually looked better at the end of the day than the beginning. I won’t post a picture of me in it. I boast all the time that 6 packs are for beginners and my keg shows long term commitment but it looks like the model for this add worked pretty hard to get his abs and I wouldn’t want to make him feel bad.

    Great Rash Guard

This company is pretty incredible. Shipping was very quick. When the first shirt I got was too large I received the replacement the day after I shipped the first one back. The material is exactly what I had been looking for. I haven’t used it yet but I suspect it will do the job. I’ll repost if I have any problems. What I really would like to say in regards to this shirt is that they are sized correctly. I read some reviews on these that said you should get the next size up, which is what I initially did. That shirt ended up being too loose. If you intend to just wear this as a shirt getting a size larger would probably work well. However, if you intend to use them for their stated purpose, which is as a rash guard, then you definitely want the correct size with a tighter fit. If you get the larger shirt it will ride up too easily in the water. When I was in Hawaii recently I looked at a different brand. I tried on my size (a large), and xl and an xxl. Once I got the large on I thought I wouldn’t be able to get it off. Even the xl was too snug. The xxl worked with that shirt. I used it in the water and it worked well. The Kanu large fits me about the way the other brands xxl did but the Kanu has longer sleeves, which I like. If all goes well in the water this summer I’ll probably be ordering more of these.

Fit a tall guy nicely and kept marine critters at bay

The fit was great for a tall guy. It was snug, but that’s what I wanted. A XL t-shirt is normally loose on me and a L t-shirt is a bit snug. I ordered an XL and it was well fitting in the water while snorkeling but never felt too tight. I feel like it kept a few baby jelly fish at bay.

    Ideal Swim Shirt

This swim shirt is everything I hoped it would be. My two primary needs were 1) sun protection; and 2) a fit that prevented any appreciable drag in the water. It met both those requirements perfectly. I’ll likely buy a second one to have as a back up just in case I’ll ever need it. The price was right so it makes sense for me to do so.

A great shirt for water sports

If you’re going to be out kayaking, boating, or fishing you need to protect yourself from the sun. Sunscreen is great but it wears off. A shirt like this is going to keep you safe in the sun while feeling comfy and looking great. The material is flexible, stretchable and fast drying. It’s markedly better quality than cheaper water sports shirts at the likes of Walmart.

    Super Shirt for the Sun!

Super shirt! The quality, fit (if you get the size you want), and comfort, are all excellent. As far as size, I have a 46 inch chest, 39-40 inch waistline, and am 6’4, 205 lb. I first bought the XL. It fits tight but is comfortable and was a keeper. Then they had a “sale” on the same color, so I ordered the XXL. My wife could hardly tell the difference in between the two. It feels just a little looser, but still very comfortable. Another keeper.Remember these are designed to fit as rash guards and should fit snugly. I wear it for any activity that needs a sunblock. Swimming, jogging, hiking..etc. Works great and is like a second skin. Even when sweating profusely, I never feel overheated in this shirt. Dries fast too.So if you are about my size, and like it a little tighter, get the XL and It will fit you like the model in the picture. If you have a gut that would show and you want to hide it, you will have to go larger or buy a shirt designed for your purpose.

Perfect compression fit. Feels like a second skin, not a bulky shirt in the water!

This product is great for beach and water activities. Sun is too strong in Mexico, I hate wearing a shirt, but can’t keep enough sunscreen on to prevent sunburn. A cotton, or loose shirt that bunches and tugs when in the water or drenched with sweat is miserable. This is very light weight, and keeps me comfortable and sunburn free. Dries quick when you get out of the water so you won’t get chilled after you get cooled off. No matter if you are on the volleyball beach or relaxing/swimming in the pool this is the perfect shirt. Put it on before you get wet as it is hard to put on when you are wet, and nearly impossible to put on when the shirt is wet. Peel it off as you will not be able to remove the shirt right side out (wet) either. Loved the first one so much I bought a second. It won’t make you look like the model in the picture, my gut is just as noticeable when wearing the shirt as with no shirt.

    Comfortable and Convenient Sunblock

Note: I expected it to fit a little large around the middle. I am 5’4″, 130lbs, and while the sleeves and neck fit well, the rash guard was a little loose around the midsection and had to be pulled down a bit while swimming. That said, it’s a great product. You notice immediately after putting it on: this is a very comfortable shirt that I would wear on the beach, on a boat, at a water park, even just anytime I expected to be in the sun a lot. Feels cool and smooth and comforting. Stylish too; obviously you’re still wearing a rash guard and most people don’t, but it looks good.Best of all, it seems to really block the sun. I bought this item to wear on a trip to a beach vacation in the northeast. We’ve just had a killer heat wave and there’s been a ton of direct sunlight for days, but despite going to the beach for several hours every day for the past week, I haven’t tanned a bit. I couldn’t be more pleased with this garment and would consider buying more than the 2 I already got. It’s so much easier than covering my whole chest and arms and back with sunscreen.

Bought these for my husband and I love how they fit on him. He wears a medium and he’s about 155lbs. Fit as expected and provided him with the protection from the sun he looks for – he enjoys swimming and it does not interfere negatively with his swimming at all.

    Sizing is key…

From reading the various user reviews, it is obvious there are wildly different opinions of ‘how well’ their shirt fit based upon the size they ordered. After reviewing the comments more closely, I think the befuddlement arises, in part, over what the product is meant to accomplish. First of all, it should be stated (again) that this Kanu is sized to be a rashguard, NOT a walk-about tee-shirt. That means it is MEANT to cling snugly over EVERY part of your skin – basically skin-tight without being restrictive. If it can flap in the wind, it’s too loose…if you can’t move freely, then it’s too tight.A rashguard is designed (and sized) to be functional, rather than stylish. And there’s the rub (sorry, bad pun)…very few people actually have a model’s perfectly proportioned body measurement. More than likely, many of us are used to buying clothing sizes to visually ‘hide’ some of our non-proportioned (aka less-than-spectacular) physical features. Get out of that mindset. For better or worse, a well-fitting rashguard should protect your skin, but it won’t make you look slimmer or taller or beefier or anything else. (In short, if you don’t like your ‘look’ standing naked in mirror, don’t blame it on the rashguard!)So how do you order from the size chart when you don’t have those (almost mythical) perfect body proportions? I wondered as well. I’m 6’0”, 180 lbs with a relatively athletic build (43” chest, 34” waist, 15” neck, 34” arm length). Using the Amazon Men’s Apparel Sizing Chart, my chest size would be Large, but my waist would dictate ordering a Medium. I went with the Large and the results in the photo were pretty much dead-on with what I expected. The chest and shoulders fit as they should (comfortably snug). When I first tried on the shirt, I thought it may have been too snug under the arms, but later realized it was simply because we rarely wear shirts this form-fitting in the underarm area. The material provided unlimited movement range in the shoulder joint, which was the most important. As to the waist, the material remained close to my skin, but could have accommodated an individual with a 35” or 36” waist without trouble. You might wish to notice the shirt’s length. As an individual with long arms and a long torso, I thought it was fantastic to finally have plenty of length in those areas, but shorter individuals will probably wonder what they will do with that much extra material. My recommendation is to trust the size range of the manufacturer (apparently 66% of Amazon purchasers thought the same thing). However, if your waist and chest measurements ‘straddle’ size groups (as mine did), make your order based upon the larger of the two sizes.I noticed a couple of user comments about an odd (‘green-ish’) color hue of the grey shirt. I didn’t see that at all in the item I just received, although I might argue that the color has a tint of Platinum or possibly medium Silver. In addition, the material has a slight satin sheen to it, but is far from shiny.Overall, the shirt is very nicely made and looks like it will hold up well – even after a few of my usual tragic spills on water skis!

Kanu Surf Men’s Rash Guard Fits Well and Blocks UV

I spent an hour or so reading the reviews and was still having difficulty choosing between L & XL. I have a 46 inch chest, a 36 inch waist and 34 inch arms. The XL would fit my chest, but the waist would be too big. The L would be tight in the chest, but fit my waist better. In the end I ordered a L in RED. Large turned out to be the correct choice. The chest was snug, but by no means too tight and the waist fit perfectly. The arms were a bit too long at 36 inches (came up to my knuckles), but that was not an issue as I folded them over to make a cuff. The shirt was comfortable to wear in the ocean and remained skin tight when wet.I wore the shirt at the beach while vacationing in Aruba this past March. The sun was almost directly overhead at noon (I cast an 8 inch shadow). I also had no base tan to start with. I used spray on SPF 50 on my head & neck and SPF30 elsewhere (my first rash guard and I was not taking any chances). I enjoy snorkeling and spend hours in the ocean, so the sunscreen gets washed off. In past years my shoulders and upper back would get too much sun. Not so this year. I did deduct 1 star for the overly long sleeves. So… The shirt fit well, arrived in two days, prevented any sunburn on the area it covered, and was less than half the price of similar rash guards that were on sale in Aruba. I am pleased with my purchase.

lightweight and form fitting rash guard

This bright red long-sleeve rash-guard rests snug at collarbone and is comfortable/open on neck. Sleeves and waist are form-fitting. Fits and feels perfect for warm water snorkeling, scuba, water park, and as a base layer for kayaking, rafting, sailing, wakeboarding, jet-skiing, and other active water sports. On the beach and in-town I prefer a lighter & looser top. I give this 5 Stars for being what I got it for – a great fitting active water rash-guard, get out & change into a dry shirt (don’t forget your towel). I hope this review is helpful for you.

Better than Sunscreen! Outstanding UPF 50 Rashguard

I chose this product because I am an avid swimmer. At the peak of summer, my kids and I are in the pool as often five times per week and, although I have built up a base tan and wear sunscreen, I always feel like I’m getting too much sun. .This seemed like an economical shirt so I bought one for my son to try out. He really liked his a lot, which we bought in red, and it has held up extremely well all summer. It has not faded, shrunk or degraded in any way that I can tell. So, I decided to get my own.Fit and ConstructionFrom my own experience, this shirt fits well and, as I mentioned before, has not faded or degraded in any way. The seams are very well stitched, too. That said, before you purchase this shirt, I strongly recommend looking at the sizing guide and measuring yourself. If I hadn’t checked, I’d would have ordered a size too big.UPFFirst, let me say that I live in Texas where we experience UV Indexes of 11 quite frequently in the summer. I have worn this shirt up to three hours per day on numerous occasions and each time, I could not detect any change in my tan. In fact, think it might be fading which is fine by me! Needless to say, I have not been burned while wearing this rashguard.ConclusionThis shirt is an absolute bargain for the price. I would highly recommend this rashguard to anyone who spends long periods in the water and sun.

Fits really tight. I’d size up

I expected that this rashguard would fit tight, and wanted it to fit relatively tight. I usually wear size large shirts: I’m 5 foot 11, 180 lbs. I ordered a large and it was as if the shirt was painted on. Super tight, and what really was the problem was that it was unfortunately too restrictive. Returned for a x-large and the fit is much better: Still pretty clingy and close fit, but not tight or restrictive and I’m able to move my arms and body around. The shirt material is nice and thick, but also dries quickly and amazingly provides warmth when I need, and cools me off when I need it as well. magic! The UV protection works well and I purposely bought a long sleeve so I didn’t have to worry about reapplying sunscreen on my arms when they’re wet.The only downside to the whole thing is that the material is just a bit on the shiny side. Not a true deal breaker, but I would’ve preferred a completely matte color.

    I really like this shirt

I purchased this Medium shirt in RED, to be a tight fitting rash guard that would protect from sunburn on a three week snorkel trip to the Cook Islands. I am a 54YO male 66″ tall, 160#, 40″ chest, 38″ belly, 12.5″ bicep, 12″ largest part of forearm, 7.5″ wrist, 20″ armpit to wrist, neck 16″.The shirt was a bit loose in the arms and would flap in the water and on the scooter. The arms were long on me, measuring 20′ from armpit seam to cuff. The body was form fitting but not uncomfortably tight. The body was very long and did not ride up and expose any part of the back while snorkeling. The collar is high and helps to protect your neck from sun and was not overly tight.. The very first time I wore the shirt was on a overland hike of about six hours, during which time we were soaked to the skin by heavy rains. On this first use the red color bled onto my backpack and the inner part of my pants where the shirt was tucked in. It did not seem, at least as far as I can tell, to bleed after that when worn in salt water or in open air. Maybe wash it once before you wear it. Temperatures were in the upper 80s and humidity probably at least that high as well, the shirt was very cool and comfortable to wear while out of the water. It also dried quickly after getting out of the water.I am not one to be fashion conscious, but two people mentioned that the shirt looked very nice. Given that I probably only wore it 6-7 times that speaks a lot because I can assure you it was not my physique that was garnering any complements

Great rashguard. If you’re a surfer, read my review re. size.

If you are using this for surfing, size down. I am between 5’8″ and 5’9″ and I weight 152 pounds. I’m mostly thin but have a bit of muscle. My suit jacket size is 38. The size medium was definitely too big and the size small is perfect. I wear a size medium-long in Oneil wetsuits.

    Excelente calidad-precio

El tamaño correcto para las tallas que compré (S&M). Producto de buena relación precio-calidad para la tela aunque el estampado parece no durará mucho.
