    Simple intelligent toys!

Love anything by M&D….have several different things from them and love them all. I appreciate the feeling of nostalgia I get watching my grandkids play with the “paper dolls”…lol.

Great toy but was banged up

I love everything about this Melissa and Doug Magnet Board, very sturdy. Unfortunately, the one I recieved seemed to be a return and was banged up with hair strands inside the box. It was delivered inside of a unsealed plastic bag.

    Broken/missing pieces

Not all pieces were there and a large portion had where the picture side was detached from the magnet side due to bending of the wood pieces. Unfortunately I ordered this in advance for a birthday and can no longer return, so I’m stuck with it. Shame on me for planning ahead 🙄

    Fun. Creative. Educational.

Two year old grandson loved playing with the magnets by sorting, creating, naming items and colors. Because they’re magnets, it keeps the pieces from going everywhere. This was a great gift.

    It’s ok

I give it a 3 star because I wish the magnet pieces were a bit bigger. They are too small. My 3 year old plays well with it. But I have to watch she doesn’t drop them of my 1 year old can swallow them.

    Disappointing

Should come with pictures to determine where pieces go. Some are so small and can’t even tell what the piece would go to. Product is very disappointing

So much fun creating different scenes and searching through the pieces to put together the people, animals, cars, and buildings. Easy to store everything and close up when finished.

    It’s ok…needs some improvements

I liked the idea of this toy for toddler, but there were ALOT of little parts that just didn’t grab his attention much. Example, there are separate legs, shoes, body and arms. Once we actually made a whole person it was a bit big compared to the picture plus he lost interest by the time we found all the parts. He found it funner to just have a head and body go down the slide. I do love the concept but should have less pieces or atleast like a whole body with limbs and then just add the heads. For now we put all those little arms, legs & shoes in separate baggy and put them away for now.

    Good but could be better

This is a really nice self contained magnetic puzzle. My 2.5 year old picked it up rather quickly. The people and animals are a little hard for him and he needs some facilitation so he doesn’t lose pieces or destroy the scenes. My biggest issue is that the magnetic are not strong so if a scene gets bent just a little the magnetic a don’t stay in well.

    Fun activity

Some of the pieces were smaller than I thought, so a four year old has to be assisted so that pieces are not dropped on the floor.

    Great Magnetic Puzzle

There are 4 pictures that give you an idea of what you can construct. Then you place a background on the magnetic board and apply the pieces. My 3.5 year-old grandson loves to choose the scene he is going to make and enjoys picking the appropriate pieces to stick on the magnetic board. Here’s a hint for young children – Many of the pieces are quite small. So as not to have the number of pieces overwhelming for him and to make it easier to choose pieces, I separate the small pieces and put them in a small Ziploc bag. If he “needs” a small piece for his picture, we go to the bag.

Unique Gift, but lots of pieces

Great gift for a 3 year old. Unique gift in that it’s not a traditional puzzle, but has a puzzle feel. My toddler loves Melissa & Doug puzzles and when I found this on Amazon, thought he would give it a try. He definitely enjoys it, but I worry since there are so many pieces, some may get lost fast.

Melissa and Doug does it again!

Wow!!!! This should be way more expensive than it is. We bought this for a road trip. Comes with several scenes and tons of magnets. I love that the magnets stick but aren’t too hard for my 3 year old to pull them off. Love this!!!

Cute, but if the papers are slightly bent the magnets don’t want to stick to the board.

    Great for Speech Therapy/Play/language development!

This has been such a fun game to have for speech therapy for so many ages (3+). It’s been fun working on spatial terms, matching the pictures, actions (slide, climb, swim…) animals, and so much more! Would highly recommend for therapists and parents.

    My grandaugher likes it.

My grandaughter does like it. She is 2 1/2 and likes puzzles, so this is a step up where she can create her own scenes. Two things we don’t like is that the box is so big, it is hard to fit on her lap and it is hard to reach the scene when it is standing near the back of the box. Secondly we noticed a strong acrid smell when opened. Not sure what from, but we are airing it out to see if it goes away.

Missing some of the Magnets; Fun and Educational!

Love Melissa & Doug’s toys! I’m a speech therapist and I use these for my students. Upon opening the box, some of the magnets were missing, which was disappointing. I would love to have the missing magnets. 🙁 The box and magnets are sturdy; however the scene cards could be a little sturdier. If the cards don’t stay perfectly flat, the magnets won’t stick to them. Ovverall, it is a fun and educational toy that can be used in a lot of ways to teach different concepts.

    Sturdy learning tools yet toys!

Melissa & Doug make great toys, love the wood! Only things: this toy could have used add’l scenes to work off of. And scenes bend up too easily (too thin). My grandson loves this one!! Great idea. Make more like this!

    So many pieces!

I should have listened to the other reviews. I bought this for my two year old to stay busy in the car. Bad idea. Pieces everywhere. Too small of pieces for her and her younger brother. The board itself was too large to work well with her car seat. I think it will be fun for her in another year maybe but not for the car. Good quality.

Adorable but attention to the recommended age because there are some small parts

I was so excited to give this puzzle to my two year old granddaughter . I knew it was recommended for age 3 and up but since my granddaughter is advanced for her age , I ordered it anyway . When we opened it , her Mom immediately said “uh oh , there are some really tiny pieces here , we should put it away until she is older .” And she was correct . As all of Melissa & Doug products are high quality and I usually buy anything that is this brand , without reading the fine print . Great product but be mindful of the recommended age .

    Not as expected.

I had this delivered to my grandchildren, so I haven’t seen it in person. However, I did see it today via video call, and it is not what I expected. Even my daughter was perplexed.I Interpreted the photo as shown online as a briefcase-style wood box, where the cover opens at an angle. In the cover’s cavity, I expected that each of the four picture cards would fit perfectly. It was not clear which surfaces are magnetic but I assumed that the kids could either stick on the pieces to match in the cover or build it in the box base. Not so. This not a hinged box. There’s what looks like a slide-on wood cover, but there is no apparent way to stand the picture cards on it,. However, I’ve looked at the photos again and now see what I didn’t notice before. The cover is actually leaning out of slots in the bottom. My mistake, although my daughter did not observe these slots in person. Also, in the straight on view of the cards, they appear to be the same size, but they are not. One fits perfectly in the box, and the other three are smaller. Obviously the puzzle pieces are too large to fit on the smaller cards, so we adjusted our expectations for this set and assumed the large card is for practice, with the smaller as reference for arranging the associated pieces in the box.Still, none of these discrepancies kept the kids from playing with it. The almost four-year old was happily matching pieces to the large card, while the newly two-year old was mostly interested in removing them from the box. With instruction, he was also able to find pieces and match them to the large card.In conclusion, the set is not what I expected, but not a total loss either. Ordinarily I closely examine items before I buy, but I must have been asleep at the wheel on this one. I also think it’s as a little pricey for what it is, and would not have bought it for that reason, except that my grandchildren were sick and stuck at home last week. They love puzzles of any kind, and I sent it as a distraction, hoping to give my daughter (also sick) a little quiet time.

    Disappointing

For a Melissa and Doug item, this was majorly disappointing. Upon the child opening the package, we had to take it away. The pieces are so very small, that they can easily choke a small child. Some of them are only about 1/2 inch in length. The magnets are weak, the paper backgrounds are flimsy and the box is too big for the amount of pieces. I can’t tell if all the pieces are there. Because we opened it, it’s not returnable.

    Not for younger kids

I bought these for a 2 and 3 year old, on the younger side of each.Normally, I think Melissa and Doug toys are great. And this may be too, my low star rating is for two reasons-the magnets aren’t strong, and the description is not clear that it’s a puzzle.I was thinking it was big pieces-a car, a kid, an animal, that you could put on magnetic scenes. It is, in fact, puzzles. An arm, a leg, a head, a car body, different wheels, that all have to be put together for a scene. While my older grandson is very good at simple puzzles, this was too complicated with too many choices. After one play session, I put it away for a year.Definitely not for preschoolers. And, the magnets slid down so that may also be an issue if they ever enjoy it. Not M&D’s finest.

    Toxic fumes are bad

I would not recommend. Obviously for kiddos but the VOCs coming off here are terrible. I got it for my grandson who is only 3 and he loves the idea, but I had to take it and air it out for over a month after we opened and I can still smell it:-(

    Inaccurate description

Only 2 backgrounds they flip over for a different scene. Ours unfortunately had duplicates so we only have the school bus & playground scene. There are some small magnet pieces so if your child still puts things in there mouth I’d not recommend. The lid to the box could’ve been designed better so it slides out. To be a Melissa & Doug product I’m rather disappointed in this item it’d been nice to have received the correct backgrounds as that’s a huge part of this toy. Amazon customer service Is of no help item can’t be returned for a replacement if it has been opened and of course you don’t know if something is missing until you open it. I’d only recommend buying this is you can catch it on clearance sale under $10.

Good concept, lots off tiny pieces

Great product. But be warned, there are lots of little magnet pieces. I was expecting them to be a bit bigger for my students to manipulate based off of the age designed for.

Not bad but not a favorite

I think this will depend heavily on the child. This doesn’t hold my son’s interest as much as his other toys but it’s definitely something different (magnet pieces) that will encourage his imagination and expand his thinking skills.

The product has a bad chemical odor.

When you take off the cellophane that it’s wrapped in, the product sticks like very bad chemicals. we all started sniffling and we just had to put it out to air on the porch. After hours the paper still has a smell to it but only when you put your nose up to it. Kind of ruined this toy for us. How can you share it with little kids after that?

Why are the images so small?

It’s supposed to be a matching game but the magnetic pieces are way too big for the images. And why wouldn’t the image take up the whole board like it does in the advertisement? I returned the first one I bought hoping the second one would be correct but it came this way too. It’s a cute idea but it’s silly if the magnets don’t actually match the photo.

Creative Toy for Ages 5 and Up

This is an activity toy that allows for creativity. Some of the magnetic pieces are very small, and I would recommend adult supervision with younger children. I was disappointed that not all the pieces that were shown on the suggestion cards were included in the 119 pieces. Quality control needs to be more diligent.Creatve

I love all things Melissa and Doug. I wish there was some kind of organizer for the magnets since there are so many of them and wish the suggestion cards/pictures were made of a more durable material or paper but its a great way for my kids to occupy themselves. Beautiful colors and images.

    not what I expected

I have never been disappointed in any of Melissa and Doug toys. I was very disappointed with this product. Besides all the pieces being toooooo small, I think it has just too many pieces and VERY overwhelming for ages 3 and up. My granddaughter is 5 and didn’t even want to play with it when she saw all the pieces. Pieces are way too small and just takes a child too long to look for what they want.

    Disappointed, close to perfect

This should say age 5+. I don’t think my 3 year old will be able to recreate the scenes. If the suggestion cards were full size, so kids could match the pieces, to the scene, it’d be perfect. The suggestion cards are too small to actually match. Also, the pieces move around in the box, the outside elastic is great, but it’d be better if the bottom was magnetic too.

Perfect toy to distract my 2 and 4 year old while my husband and I work from home. They have fun following the picture cards and making/adding their own, too. There’s tons of small pieces so I wish the box closed better, but still a great toy for the price.
