Sturdy and well-designed.
I’ve been looking for a strong, sturdy phone holder that has many mounting options, will also work with tablets and other electronics (with the necessary magnet for each device) and, importantly, doesn’t require me to fiddle with a clamping mechanism to secure the phone. This is perfect. The window suction cup mechanism is one of the sturdiest and strongest I’ve seen. Works great. The only part I don’t like is that the magnet stays on the phone instead of the other way around. I’m not a huge fan of things sticking to my phone in my pocket or leaning up against a car and having my back pocket clamp against the metal fender. Notably, if you drop your phone in the dirt and there is significant metal in that dirt (which is true more often than not throughout the U.S.), you will end up with what is essentially metal powder all over this extremely strong magnet. Very time consuming to remove. Overall, just keep your phone off the ground and you won’t have this problem. Compressed air helps remove the last bits. Also, I was not a fan of the “removable adhesive” with the plastic backing that you stick the actual magnet to in lieu of sticking it directly to your device. My iPhone 13 pulled itself off that adhesive by its own weight. I ended up just sticking the magnet itself directly to the phone instead of keeping the reusable part.

A true hands free mounting system!
The only bad thing is that the ball adhesion would sometimes lose it’s grip when it would let hot in the car. Like anywhere over a 100* or so.

Works good but messes with S-pen
I put this on my case for my S22 Ultra and it interfered with my ability to use my s pen.Really strong magnet though. I could stick my phone to the fridge, oven fan, my car, etc.

Awsome!
I purchased Nite ize a month or so ago and these are the best cell phone holders I have used. They have a strong magnet that even going down country gravel roads doesn’t bother these guys. Always stay in place and you can twist your phone around up and down or on its side super easy. I got the Nite ize that has the ball stuck on the dash, the flat surface magnet for the phone on the ball and the plate for the phone. I went with this option to be less weight on my phone in my pocket. I have a black case on both my personal and company phone and can’t even tell its stuck on my case. Highly recommend and price was pretty decent. Great product!

Finally a solution that’s not an eye sore!!
Not only was my Mercedes lacking in cup holders or storage space but the fact that I couldn’t find a decent place to put my phone while driving was making me go crazy. I had tried numerous solutions.MISSION=Find a functional phone mount that looked as close to factory as possible.ATTEMPT #1: I purchased a phone holder that stuck to the dash via 3M tape that kept getting knocked off because it took up so much space. It was like an arm protruding from my dash that just wanted to poke me at the least optimal time. It was an eye sore.STATUS=FAILATTEMPT #2: I purchased a smaller phone holder that plugged into the cigarette lighter. This worked ok but was still bulky and didn’t have the factory look I was aiming for.STATUS=FAILATTEMPT #3: This ones laughable. I decided to try a dash mat after seeing how well they worked in a friends boat. Excited, I found the perfect sport just under my radio. I tore the package open, “stuck” it to my dash and watched in disappointment as it slide down my dash like under-cooked spaghetti. My fiance found this humorous. I began trying to get it to stick anywhere and eventually resorted to tossing it against my dash like spaghetti against a refrigerator. No luck. It wouldn’t stick to anything.STATUS=BIG FAIL(VENT CLIPS-I decided to forgo this option because I think they are the dumbest idea ever. I’m all set with sticking my phone in front of a heater. Phones aren’t suppose to get hot.)ATTEMPT #4=I accidentally came across the Steelie Car Mount and was intrigued by its size. It was the most expensive phone mount I’ve come across thus far but also appeared to be the most promising after reading all the reviews. I had to buy it. Aside from the magnetic ring that looks rather out of place on my phone, this thing is awesome. I mounted it in my car in the same spot that the dash mat was suppose to go, between the stereo and heater controls. It’s very functional and looks great. It’s definitely worth every penny. The only improvement I would like to see, is a decrease in the size of the phone magnetic mount or at least offered in other colors so it’s less noticeable on.STATUS=MISSION COMPLETE———————-UPDATE———————————————–I’ve had this for a couple months now and still love it. One thing I never thought of when purchasing this was, will it interfere with my wireless charger? I tested this out and it will work but I wouldn’t recommend it. The magnet gets ridiculously hot, so hot you can’t touch it which could be a potential fire hazard. I, also, travel a lot and one night I had my phone in my pocket along with my hotel room key. When I returned to the hotel my key wouldn’t work. The magnet on the phone wiped the data on the room key.

Not the best
This isn’t my favorite car mount for my phone but I have a loopy case and this is the only thing I’ve found that will work with the loopy. The magnet is not very strong and my phone constantly shifts and sags while I’m driving (which is kind of a safety hazard). I don’t love it but haven’t found anything else that even kind of works.

Magnet material is starting to chip away.
The small phone mounted magnet has a metal ring that has started to chip away causing it to have a sharp edge. Very noticeable to bare skin. Phone stays where you adjust it on the dash, it’s one of, if not the best mount I’ve found. I believe the materials could use a bit of a revisit however.

Definitely get one
We like the suction cup mount better than the little ones you can put on your dash.Which, granted, I haven’t tried nite ize, but usually sticker holders on the dash end up melting off in the south’s heat. But this is right at eye level, so that’s nice.

Best phone holder put
I have tried several phone holder/clips. I absolutely love this magnetic one. I was nervous about the strength of the magnet with the horrible roads and potholes, but my phone has never fell. I personally have a loopy case and this is the only holder that has worked. Highly recommend.

Addictive for sure
I love this attachement. I’ve had this Steelie magnet on my phone for the better part of 6 years now. Not the same phone, but several phones over the years. The ability to slap your phone not only onto the mounted ball, but car fenders, metal braces, weight machines, or other ferrous metal objects becomes super addictive. The only problem with that is that small amounts of metal “junk” accumulate around the red anti-slip ring in the center over the years and allow your phone to pivot or slide on the steelie ball after a bit, but who cares?! I love it. I have probably purchased at least eight of these over the years and have balls mounted in several cars, and one on a Nordic trac. I use it with phone and my kindle. Great little contraption.

This is the best phone holder. The ball is mounted in the car on the dash. Hands free viewing of maps while driving is so great. The magnet on the back of the phone is convenient cause you can stick your phone nearly everywhere. Love it. Highly recommended

Great item ….but
It’s a great item , however do not use it on a phone case … Over time the magnet plate will come off if you do so… Only use the plate on the phone itself only.

works better than most vent mounts
I love the Steelies. This is probably the worst one, but still better than any other vent mounting system I have seen. Youre still better off mounting the ball to your dash with the normal adhesion but if that is not an option, this can still provide at least a reasonable mounting experience. It will occasionally fall off the mount, especially when going over bumps with a heavy phone, but again, it holds better than any other vent mounts I have used.

Sometimes it’s hard to close
The Freemount Dash Kit is a great way to get into using Steelie. This is a long term review as I have been using it for almost 3 years. I like the freemount because I don’t have to have the large magnet on the back of my phone. I drive a Mazda CX-5 suv so I couldn’t mount it to the dash but I did mount it on the console next to the shifter and it’s fine there. The ball is still stuck on tight. There is a design flaw which recently caused it to fail but after 3 years I’m not upset about it. It can be tough to push the sides in and get it to click tight enough to my phone. If I could take off half a star instead of a full one I would. It was annoying but not a huge deal. The release mechanism is supported by a tiny piece of plastic on the inside. I took it apart and looked. That’s what finally broke and made the product useless. 3 years is very good though.

It WILL cause your phone’s GPS/compass grief
I really did want to give this 5 stars. But, due to the 1 con below, 4 is as high as I can give.First off, before I run through the pros/cons, I installed this on a brand new 64gb iPhone 6+.PROSThis thing’s magnet is STRONG. There is no doubt in my mind that my phone is going to stay attached to the ball on the dash. There’s no wobble or vibration when driving. And the looks are far better than any other mount out there; trust me, I’ve either researched them to death or bought them. Hands down, this is the strongest mount I’ve found that doesn’t look like you’ve scabbed together pieces of an old erector set on your dash.CONSThis thing’s magnet is TOO strong, at least for my phone. It WILL affect the GPS. I spent over an hour doing random tests of the phone in and out of the case I attached the magnet to. What I concluded, is that with the magnet secured to the case of the phone, I was constantly having to calibrate it. If you ever close a map app, or any map I used that uses the GPS, you will certainly need to recalibrate the compass again. Other weird issues were that with the magnet attached, it would show I was driving backwards, sideways, North was South, East was West, etc. You could calibrate the compass, and for 5-10 minutes, things would seem to go right again, but, it would always get mucked up and show you were traveling in quite an impossible manner.Another con, which I’m hesitant to add, but, needs to be mentioned… Is that for any case that’s split (as in the top slides over the phone’s top, and the bottom over the the bottom of the phone, and t connects int he middle), you may have a bad time of the phone slipping out of the case. The case I have is a BB Pt case. You really have to make sure the snap part connecting the 2 halves of the case are secure after putting it on the magnet, otherwise the weight of the phone will pull it out of the top part of the case, leaving the top part of the case securely affixed to the dash steel ball, while the phone goes on an unfortunate plinko drop over everything on your dash, ending up in the floorboard. Yes, this is the fault of the case and NOT the steely mount, but, again, it needs to be mentioned. In conclusion, this is a GREAT looking mount, that holds just about anything within reason securely to the ball mount, without having some gaudy contraption glued and screwed all over your dash. But, no matter what Nite Ize says on their site, you’ll be fighting GPS accuracy and constant compass calibration issues. I will also add, that the iPhone 6+ is just nearly too big for this particular mount. I personally would recommend the larger magnet, which will still rest properly on the steel ball mount when mobile.

Fantast product. Highly recommend for everyone. Dash Mount orbitor!
“Dash Mount orbitor”Hands down the best phone mount I have ever found. I move cars for a living and I would see these balls attached to the dash and wonder what they were. So I did a bit of research and found out what they were. I then bought a new Semi, and it also had one on the dash. I tried to take it off the dash and couldn’t get it to budge, so I took apart the dash to see if it was screwed into the dash and it wasn’t. I was like hrmm, what sorta magic is this. Anyway all the pieces were there except the Steelie plate, so for $5 I picked one up to test on my Google Pixel 3XL. If you know Google devices, the fingerprint reader is on the back. So you can’t place the plate directly in the center, plus I have an otter box defender case which is a hard case with a rubber surround so I was a bit worried about the plate being able to hold up well.If you read and follow the directions, I don’t see how anyone could ever claim there is a problem with either placing it on the dash of their car, or the plate on their phone. As I said before, they use magic to make it work.I have a very strong feeling, those that did not get theirs to properly stick to their dash or phone, also don’t know how to follow directions. It clearly states you must clean the surface with the alcohol wipes they provide, and once you place it, it must be kept at a certain temperature range for 24 hours for proper adhesion. It sticks just fine to my rubber other box case, and I bought this one to place in my wife’s 2018 Dodge Durango GT which has a soft dash, and it works perfectly fine. Follow the directions, and it too can work it’s magic for you.Even though my plate is attached to the lower half of the back of my phone, it stays on the orbitor just fine in my Semi truck and wife’s Durango.I highly recommend buying this for your car. I will be installing one in every vehicle we have in our home so no matter whps driving, they always have a safe place to put their phones.Less distraction for drivers.

Finally, a car phone mount that we like
We’ve tried several mounts, and this one is it! The suction mount device to the windshield, with rigid arm, and swivel ball have been working strong for a few weeks. The swivel ball receiving mount (I’m not using correct terms) holds in place, even with my husband’s wallet phone that has some extra weight to it.Our family already had metal 3m stick pads on the phone case rear, so ready for this to work between both of our phones and share driving the family minivan.Only downside is this is a magnet, and you will need to pull your phone free, which logic tells me the suction cup would eventually not like this. No issues yet, so this suction cup is boss for sure, the way it locks and unlocks must be the trick.

There isn’t one better
I have had these for over 5 years, use them every single day. They have never fallen off the windshield, drop my phone, even on the bumpest of dirt roads. Definitely a plus yiu can mount it anywhere there is a metal surface, I would only recommend this. I have tried many others, this is the best one by far.One draw back it is a magent and it does attract metal, shavings and all. So beware.

This thing is nearly perfect! (**UPDATE — But careful with your credit cards!)
This thing ROCKS. I’m a Realtor and mom of 2 kids, so I spend tons of time driving in town and following GPS on my iPhone. It’s difficult to drive safely and see the map, especially when I have clients in the car who expect me to appear to know where I’m going! I like to get a visual of where to turn even with the voice directions on, especially in town where turns are close together. A colleague of mine had a Steelie in her car and I decided to try one. I hadn’t seen anything that looked like it would have a strong enough hold and could be adjusted easily so the screen is always in view. I was hesitant to stick the magnet on the back of my phone case, but it’s right in the center and it’s actually comfortable to put my finger there when I’m talking or texting. It’s also cool because I can stick the phone to my fridge or vent fan in the kitchen when I’m cooking or cleaning, stick it to the side of the washer when I’m doing laundry, etc. It keeps it out of the way so it doesn’t get misplaced or get dirty/wet.I was also concerned about attaching something to the dash in my car. It’s a 2015 Altima so there’s not a big, flat dash space within easy reach, and I am short, so not much reach! I placed it above one of the middle air vents. I can reach it without stretching too much, I can see it without looking down or becoming distracted, and my charger cord reaches easily. The only downer is that the bottom of my iPhone (5) hangs over the vent a little bit, but it isn’t a big deal. When I have the AC cranked up high I just turn the phone so it’s in a “landscape” (?) position and I can still see everything fine and enjoy the AC. When the phone isn’t attached to it, the Steelie ball doesn’t stand out at all. It looks like it’s supposed to be there, if you notice it at all. I love it. Well worth the twenty bucks or whatever I paid.UPDATE after a month or two of use– Be careful about putting your phone into your pocket or purse if you have credit cards in there. I usually carry my debit card in my wallet, but hastily stuck it in my front pocket a few weeks ago, and then stuffed my phone– and the magnet– into my pocket as well. My debit card’s magnetic strip was erased. I don’t know yet but I may have done the same thing to two different restaurant gift cards that were in the console of my car. Guess I’ll see when I send the gift cards to pay the check! I am still very happy with this item, but I am more thoughtful about keeping it away from my cards. It would be useful if there was something I could place over the magnet to block it when it’s not in use, but I guess I just have to remember it.

Simple Concept and It Works Pretty Well
Clean look, small and simple, a mounted metal ball with a magnet. Phone holds sturdy and highly suggest middle center placement of the magnet. If you set to high or low the phone will shift due to weight displacement.

Does what it should
Mounted easily, & is strong! No more phone falling down, or turning in it’s mount in the car while I need to use the GPS.My only concern was the removable mount for the phone, didn’t seem like it would work. I’ve had problems with the silicone mounts failing, so I didn’t want to risk it.The adhesion for the phone mount is excellent, so I just went with the normal way. Highly recommend

Save your cup holder for your Big Gulp.
Do you have a cell phone? Do you have a car? If you answered yes to both questions, you should seriously consider the Steelie Car Mount by Nite Ize. I’ve looked at car mounts before, and most of them are plastic, bulky, difficult to install, not really functional pieces of crap. You may be asking yourself, why shouldn’t I just continue to keep my phone in my cup holder or my crotch? If you asked yourself these questions, just skip the rest of this review and buy yourself some sanitary wipes instead. For the rest of you, This mount is super easy to install, equally easy to remove (without damaging your car), has an EXTREMELY strong magnet that easily holds your phone, and it is very unobtrusive. I even find it somewhat visually appealing. When your phone is mounted, it appears to be floating on your dash, it’s just clean! If you ever upgrade your phone, you can pull off the magnet, buy new double sided tape, and re-mount it to your new device (or car). The materials and workmanship are top notch, and the magnetic bit that sticks to your phone is really quite thin, I barely notice it. This car mount is great for hands free operation, long car rides, using your phone as a GPS, and if you ever get in an accident you won’t have to go digging for your phone on the floorboards, it will be right where you left it. As a bonus, if you have to change a flat, you can stick it to the side of your car (metal parts, of course) just be careful not to scratch your paint. It also sticks to the fridge, I like to stick my phone on the fridge while I’m making dinner and jam out to some tunes. Only drawback, the magnet on the back of your phone does make the phone stick up off of a flat surface while prone, so if you try to type while your phone is lying down, it is a bit wobbly. I find that it conveniently fits in the round space on the back of an Otterbox case, however, which results in a clean and smooth finish.

Perfect!
This thing does exactly what I wanted in a car mount… complication-free, unobtrusive, inconspicuous, rugged (there’s no moving parts, so there’s nothing to break), and quiet. You barely notice the silver ball on the dashboard, meaning, it doesn’t “stick out” visually. If you’re not looking for it, you may not notice it at all. The magnet is strong, but not insanely strong (and there’s been *no indication of it negatively affecting the phone in any way). Attaching the phone to and removing it from the ball is instantaneous, doesn’t require two hands, or any fiddling to adjust it. It sits still, no slumping or shifting when traveling over bumps in the road and so forth. I thought having the magnet permanently stuck to the back of my (i)phone case might be an issue with slipping in and out of my pocket. It is *not an issue. The magnet is very low profile and doesn’t get hung up in any pocket it’s been in.I stuck the magnet in the dead center of the case, which means when I lay it on the table, it balances on the magnet, which means I can’t really touch the screen without it rocking back and forth. This isn’t really a big deal because it extremely rare that I’m trying to use my phone in this manner, like a tablet or something. If I had to do it again (and I will), I’d experiment with placing the magnet just a tad higher than center so that, when the phone is lying on the table, the bottom edge is flat on the table and the top is resting on the magnet. If you do this, just be careful not to go too far away from center or your phone won’t sit right and may be more apt to move when it’s attached to the ball and you touch the screen for various reasons. The adhesive seems to be very strong. There’s no indication of it weakening and doesn’t seems like it could pull away very easily.I’ve recommended this product to all my friends and family already.

I go through a lot of vehicles and that means I go through a lot of Steelies. I’ve bought a couple products that I thought I would like but I keep going back to the Steelie. I’ve learned my lesson and this is the only one for me.

Works for portrait mounting, but not landscape.
The magnet is very strong and does hold the phone well for the most part. My phone holds well when in a standard portrait mounting position, but if I put it in landscape, it twists and flops a little too easily. For my use, I think it will do well enough, but I would have liked to see it be strong enough to genuinely hold the phone without slipping as the advertising seems to indicate.

very handy
I bought this dash mount phone holder for myself a couple of months ago due to the advice of a friend. I didn’t realize how handy it would be until I had installed it. I was a little skeptical about how well it would attach, and if it would actually stay in place while I was driving, but so far it works perfectly. My phone easily sticks onto the dash magnet and stays in position no matter however I arrange it. I had to cut a hole in the back of my Otterbox to accommodate the provided metal disk that connects to the dash magnet, which is something you may want to consider, depending on the phone cover you have. Another thing to consider is what type of dash you have to attach it to. It needs at least a full square inch or more of a smooth, hard surface on the car dash for the adhesive pad to stick to. For me the biggest advantage is when I’m using my GPS. I also like the fact that it keeps my phone out of my hands while I’m driving, eliminating the temptation to thumb through my phone while driving. If I start having problems down road, I will come back to let you know.

Strong magnets!
I ride a motorcycle and this holds my phone/GPS very securely even on rough off roads. I also use one in my truck for the dash cam which allows me to easily adjust the camera.

Great Product
My company used these when I worked for amazon and they were great. I am a truck driver now and I use this in my truck. It takes up minimal space and it is strong and firm. Would recommend to others.

WORTH EVERY PENNY!
This ULTRA STRONG is a vent beast! It might lean a little tiny bit, here or there, but it’s not coming off till I force it off! Love it, it’s way better than a stick on plate!

Love these
This is a very strong hold for your phone. I love the fact that it does not block my view through my windshield. The only type of phone holder I will ever use. Holds your phone securely, it will never fall off.
