Replaced an older model
This item replaced an older model that was over 10 years old. I used it weekly for meal preparation. Some of the legs broke off, and the temperature control unit was becoming intermittent. Replacement parts would be more than a new one. So bought this new model. It’s a little smaller than the previous model, maybe by 1 quart. But the next model up is way too big for me. I really like these Kitchen Kettles. I don’t do any deep frying, but make soups from scratch and these are the perfect tool. You can sear the meat first in the bottom, remove it, add the stock, veggies, and other ingredients and slow cook those. Then add the meat back and let it simmer for however long you need. The perfect cooking tool for me. I will keep using this style of Kitchen Kettle for as long as I cook.

Replacing old fryer
I love my new deep fryer, french fries and anything that I want to fry in a deep fryer coming out. Just this great as my other deep fryer. It’s not very deep but it does what I needed to. It doesn’t take long to clean it. Just for the old oil out. Wipe it out. Wash it if you need to, which is another thing. I can run water in it. I can clean the sides with water and soap because you can immerse it in water which is a good thing because if your family uses it, which mine does, they don’t always make sure that it’s cleaned up after cooking in it.

We use this every day
Because we don’t even have a stove. By choice, we do not own one. We have all the appliances that do everything a stove would do, so why give up the space in our old fashioned kitchen? We use this little pot just about every day and have for months. Works just as well today as day one, so if you’re planning to use it once in a while, you can imagine to mileage you’ll get out of it. And if it’s for your dorm? No problem. It’ll do the trick.Highly recommend.

LOVE THIS POT
I have bought this pot three times. The fist time was at Walmart 8 years ago. The second time was three years ago. This is by far my most used appliance. Now my first pot eventually had to be thrown out because the coating on the bottom wore off because I put it on and forgot it until the fire alarm went off. Whoops!!! I know it, I am not coming across as a very good cook. 😂 But I might surprise you. Anyway I damaged the bottom. My second one was used so much that the bottom coating eventually wore thin and I felt it best to buy another one for those times that I need a non stick surface. I don’t intent to throw the second one out until it dies. I love this pot. It is the perfect size for almost anything because of how deep it is, and it takes up very little space on the counter. I have a large Presto grill as well which I also love. I have never been unhappy with the Presto brand and am delighted to share this with the world. Or at least the Amazon world. I would recommend this pot to anyone because it is so versatile. Don’t think twice, just buy it. It has a lot of bang for the buck.

Large size fryer
Purchased to replace a small fryer that we had for 15+ years. We fry almost every day as my son likes French Fries. I like how easily the cord detaches and how this is a great safety feature. Unit has a temperature gage, which past unit did not. This can be used for cooking soups and other items, so it is more than a fryer. Basket is a plus. Some issues. The temperature control gets really hot, so you need to be careful before you go to touch it.Unit is larger than small friers so you will go through more oil, but we can cook larger batches of fries and chicken wings.

good for the price
This is a nice little fryer. I am using it every week. I wish the lid fit over the basket handle when it is submerged, but that would mean some type of recession would have to be made. It works fine though and I’m just careful with it. The basket feels a little flimsy, but it gets the job done. It would be nice if the cord were longer. That’s why the 4 stars.

Very Impressed!
I received this today in a package that looked like it had been thrown around like a basketball and I was really leery of what the contents were going to look like. It was packed very well, no inside damage and the cooker is in perfect shape. It goes together very easily. All you have to do is secure the handles and feet. I cleaned it up with soapy water, rinsed and dried well. Then I decided to deep fry some shrimp, okra and french fries. Everything came out perfectly. I had a very expensive older deep fryer that finally saw better days, so when I bought this one I was a little leery because of the price. It is just as good as my older, expensive fryer. I read some other comments that weren’t too happy with the results, so I am just going to give some common sense tips for good results, aside from the fact that some others might have a defective cooker. My cooking tips are mostly for deep frying as I haven’t tried other methods yet.1. Read and follow the directions, they are always important regardless of the appliance.2 Don’t overcrowd the food. It needs space to cook properly. For example: I deep fried 6 shrimp at a time and about 2 average servings each of okra and fries (average meaning something like you would get at a fast food restaurant). I would guess that the fryer would hold about 3 average sized peices of chicken, fish, etc. Use your jugement as long as the food is not crowded.3. The fill line is a ridge inside the pot and takes about 1 1/2 quarts of oil. The directions for deep frying say to heat the oil about 20 minutes, but I could not find how to tell when the oil is heated to the temp of 400 degrees. So I watched it and it actually heated up in about 15 minutes and the red pilot light will go off when it is heated. Your pot may vary. Just watch the pilot light.4. After the cooking process is done, set the basket on the side of the pot with the lip provided for a few seconds until no more oil is dripping and place the food on paper towels. It was a very good meal and we were both very pleased with the results. I am anxious to try other cooking methods according to the directions. This is a perfect sized cooker for 2 to 3 people. It surely will accomodate more, it will just take a little longer. The only critical thing for me is not having a removable container to store the oil in my refrigerator, but I cannot complain for the price and will just have to put it in another storage container. I recommend this to anyone wanting to spend little money for a quality product.

Small but mighty! Steady temp
Small but does the trick. Holds temperature perfectly which is key for frying. Docked one star because the angle of the feet is awkward, causing it to use up extra counter space, and because the lid won’t close if the rack is resting on top (out of the oil/water) which can result in burns. Wish the fill line was easier to see as well. But overall a great buy – we use this for frying beignets, potato chips/pub nachos, Scotch eggs, and more. I love that the plug has a tear-away section, so if you accidentally knock the plug near the temperature dial, or run into the power cord, it will come apart via magnet so you don’t knock over the fryer and burn yourself. We’ve got small kids so it’s a big safety win. Easy to clean with a soft sponge (don’t use a scratchy one or you’ll run the finish!) and a bit of Dawn.

THE PERFECT FRYER
Rarely, do I think that there is a perfect product but, this is one! I have owned 3 deep fryers in the past 6 years or so and for one reason or another, I just decided to leave them alone and fry in my cast iron dutch oven. First, let me tell you what I fry and what I expect of a deep fryer and why the allure in the first place. If you imagine a male version of the comic strip Cathy, I am ALWAYS on a diet. I do well but my weight ebbs and flows. Occasionally, on my cheat day… or cheat week… or cheat month, I love fried chicken wings or drums. You know, seasoned well, shaken in flour and fried, like grandma. The only problem is, unlike my grandmother, I CAN NEVER gauge the heat on the stove just right all the time so, sometimes, the chicken comes out perfect and other times it looks like I mistook the poor chicken for a marshmallow. I like the idea of a deep fryer but my previous ones have a few issues that have made me hurl them into the dumpster; the heating unit goes out, the sides are so disgusting from grease that has spilled over time that I cannot REALLY clean for fear of ruining it or, the heathing unit CANNOT keep the oil hot enough for crunchy chicken… at least frying 5 wings at a time.I like my cast iron Dutch Oven but, gauging the heat is a skill I don’t practice enough to get right every time. I saw this Presto Deep fryer and knew I’d love it.First of all, it is spacious. You can pour an entire bottle of oil in it and theres still a TON of room inside for the grease to rise without splashing everywhere. The heating unit is accurate and does not fry too hot and can easily recover when you add fresh chicken. YOU CAN CLEAN THE ENTIRE THING without worrying about damaging it… it can even go in the dishwasher which is something I will never do.I used it for the first time yesterday. I fried 5 whole wings of large size from Trader Joes ( how on earth they call them natural wings given their size is beyond me as they’re twice the size of Amish wings*shrugs*). Nothing splashed out of the fryer. The wings were submerged and fried well done the way I like without burning them. The cleanup inside AND OUTSIDE of the fryer was easy. There was basically no grease on the stove ( I removed the metal grate and fried on top of the stove). This was fantastic.I love it! I am tempted to buy another one in case like with everything else, they stop making them or modify it in a cheaper way because of the cost of production. This is a great fryer and I would definitely buy one

This is a very well designed fryer and rice cooker. It performs better than those rectangular fryers with a heater that sits inside the oil. This fryer require that all you have to clean is the bowl and basket if used.

Love this multifunction appliance
Got this to fry with so that I could save oil and not dirty up a bunch of skillets. It’s not a huge size, but it’s big enough to fix a meal for my family. Not only was I able to fry and reuse my oil, I also used it as a saucepan and slow cooker. My oven went out and I was wanting to make sweet potatoes. Rather than dirty up a pot to make my sauce and then pour into the cooker over my potatoes, I turned the dial to melt my butter and dissolve my brown sugar. Once I got my sauce made, I dumped in my sweet potatoes and turned the dial to gently simmer. The sweet potatoes were cooked perfectly and did not scorch. Clean up is so easy. So glad I made this purchase.

Does NOT Rise To 400f As Advertised – Impossible To Get Steam Basket Out With Silicone Tongs
This is truly a weird product. A lousy product. Here’s why:1) Temperature does NOT go to 400f as advertised. Only 369. A correct temperature is imperative when frying Fries or coated products such as seasoned Okra or Zucchini. The Manual and Dial both indicate the temperature will max out at 400f. Using 2 (two) Instant-Read thermometers I found it only rose to 369. This is okay for most foods that need to be cooked at 350f.. but the RECOVERY is improper. When room temperature (or cold) foods are put into a fryer.. the temperature is going to drop. How FAST the recovery is and if it recovers to the correct temperature is the MOST important thing to know.2) Lid does NOT have Steam Vent – Lid will NOT fit over unit when steaming. This is REALLY STUPID! The steam/fry basket comes with a REMOVABLE Handle. Okay.. but it’s FLIMSY! To STEAM beets (which are heavy by the way ) or any other product.. one fills water in the bottom of the container and drops the product into the Steam/Fry Basket. Then the Steam/Fry Basket hangs on the SIDE of the electric container with a flimsy hook riveted to the basket. There is NO VENT HOLE in the Glass lid like many other lids. But it doesn’t matter anyway. Why? BECAUSE THE LID WILL NOT FIT OVER THE BASKET! So one is left to steam without a lid. Or try to put the lid on but at an ANGLE and leave a gap at the handle. If you’re not careful and bump the container.. the lid will slide into the floor and break. A truly stupid design!Note to the Designer: All you had to do is make a SQUARE POUR SPOUT into the top of the container which would fit the WIDTH of the basket handle with a removable hook on the handle or something similar.3) You have to REMOVE handle to steam. Yep. It’s that stupid. You have to slide the so-called lock UP and pinch the handles legs to remove it. Then the steam/fry basket hangs onto the top side of the container (i.e. Pot) by a little hook. The instructions state use TONGS to remove the basket after steaming. Well.. okay. If one uses METAL tongs they will have to clasp the opposite side of the basket from where the hook is. Very HARD to do. And the INSTRUCTIONS state NOT to use metal utensils so as NOT TO SCRATCH the so-called “Premium” coating. But there is no way in the world to pick up a basket with Silicone tipped tongs! No way! Especially a basket with heavy Beets in it or a basket full of Beans or Okra, etc. One has to use a hot pad or glove and pick up the basket by hand. A really DUMB method!4) Flimsy handle with stupid lock. Inconvenient and shaky! As I said, the handle has a little lock one slides up and down. So you want to make Fries? Want to make fried Zucchini or fried Okra? Well.. good luck with playing with this flimsy handle. It’s simple. Squeeze the leg’s of the handle together and insert it into the Steam/Fry basket’s slot. Push the so-called “lock” down so it stays in place. Pick up the basket and notice how shaky or flimsy the handle to basket is. This is just a stupid design!5) When cool.. cannot put on lid unless handle is removed. Stupid implementation! So now you’ve decided to make some Fries. Their manual states to turn the heat up to 400f. Okay.. but using 2 instant read thermometers I was only able to get 369f using peanut oil which has a smoke point of 410f. So the temperature is NOT correct! The Dial reads 400f but 2 (two) thermometers read 369f.Okay.. 350f to fry potatoes or zucchini or okra will work. But the recovery is slow because ALL food dropped into a fryer at room temperature or even cold is going to shock the oil and drop it’s temperature. The RECOVERY TIME to the preset temperature is what’s important! Now you’ve finished frying (whatever) and the oil has cooled off. Great! Any decent fryer has a lid that one can put on and LEAVE THE FRY BASKET INSIDE THE CONTAINER. Not this unit! With the Steam/Fry basket still inside the lid WILL NOT FIT! It will lay on at an angle and a big gap where it sits over the basket handle. Just bump the unit and the glass lid hits the floor. The reason to have a lid is to keep the dust or other foreign object from falling into the oil. Also to keep the oil smell inside the pot and not fill the room all day and night. So you have to REMOVE the Steam/Fry basket and set it somewhere (dripping with oil until it’s wiped down and washed). Totally inconvenient! In conclusion, this is an INEXPENSIVE (read CHEAP) Steamer/Fryer and you get exactly what you pay for! A unit who does NOT provide correct temperature. A Steam/Fry basket which doesn’t hold heavy produce such as Beets for a long steam without a lid. The inability to remove the Steam/Fry basket after the steaming process has finished… and a Steam/Fry basket that one has to assemble/disassemble the handle to use depending on if you’re steaming or frying! All in all it’s just a CHEAP, STUPID fryer (maybe good for a College kid taking a stupid course like “South Park and Contemporary Social Issues,” or “How to Watch Television,” etc). And yes these are REAL college courses! Look it up! I returned this unit and bought a REAL fryer to make REAL Fries and other fried food like KFC or Southern Fried Chicken or Fried okra or Fried Zucchini.

Not For Everyone
The product itself is very good. But there are some technical issues for those of us who only want to cook for one person – say, 3 cups in volume. I would be very concerned about putting less than 3 cups in it.I want to address the negative reviews (that may be warranted), but still put it in context of what can reasonably be expected from this type of appliance.Look, thermostats are not magic analog electric resistance technology. They only know two settings – ON or OFF. Your home heating/cooling thermostat works the same way. It is either ON or OFF, and when the thermostat triggers to close the electrical contact, that is all that can happen – the device gets power and the device has to turn ON. Then it goes at full power until the thermostat detects that the heat condition is satisfied. So the thermostat then breaks the electrical connection and the power is OFF.Obviously (or not), there is also an issue of sensitivity control – how often (or, at what temperature differential) should this device click ON and OFF.This particular item, which is basically an aluminum, or zinc, or both, pot… it employs a heating element whose thermostat protrudes from the side of the unit, where the dial is. Initially, the thermostat is not going to be the same temperature as the mass that is being heated above the heating element. If there is a low mass of unheated material in the pot, well, before the entire unit comes to thermal equilibrium, the thermostat will be cooler than the mass of food in the pot, and the thermostat will continue to drive power to the unit (by keeping the contacts closed). So what happens is – the unit boils over! This is unavoidable initially – you have to watch the pot until it heats up to equilibrium. Open the lid, stir, and give it some time to heat the thermostat to equilibrium with the entire pot.I mentioned sensitivity. The thermostat is capable of cycling very nicely between simmer (ON) and OFF. Mine will simmer, then OFF, simmer, then OFF about every 10 seconds. (I didn’t really time it.) The sensitivy is great, considering what you are asking it to do, which is control the temperature over just a degree or so before the food boils over.I recently did try putting a little more food, and denser food (a can of beans) into the cooker, and I am vindicated when I say that when you use it in a situation near it’s intended design intent of food capacity, it works even more beautifully. So look, it actually *is* very difficult to find the exact sensitive setting to get the food to simmer on and off if it is just heating a few cups of food. So don’t be surprised if it boils over while you are figuring out the setting. I have mine adjusted such that the third leg of the letter ‘m’ in the word ‘Warm’ on the thermostat matches_up/aligns with the power indicator light. If you set it higher, it will likely boil over forever. Some disappointments:1. You have to assemble this. You need a screwdriver. Preferably with a long extension. I actually thought it was cool to get an unassembled unit, like ‘Hey, I even get to put something together.’ I got the legs and handles on without looking at the instructions, etc.2. The cord is short. Well, if this is a counter-top unit, you probably wouldn’t want a 6 ft cord. (just sayin’) Actually, I found a cool appliance cord while I was rummaging for a place in my man-cave to plug this in. So I’m good to go.3. A magnetically detachable power cord. I think this is causing some people problems. I’m sure the lawyers won this battle for product liability’s sake. There is a magnetic plug that attaches to the thermostat. If this magnet is not strong enough, it won’t connect. If the magnet is dirty, or the connection point area is dirty, you will have a problem with the unit being able to stay connected. The magnet is not strong enough to keep the cord connected unless it is clean. The problem is exacerbated by the weight of the cord. Disconnect the chord from the power outlet and Clean The Magnetic Contact Area(s). I got a much better mechanical connection after doing this.Do you know how hard it is to cook split peas and lentils? (the split peas, particularly) Well, I put them on an hour ago when I started this review. Awesome Power – they are done!Addendum: As I said, it *was* difficult to get the temperature setting just right. I put a piece of tape on the thermostat knob to keep it in place – in case of accidental bumping.—-I have ordered one of the 6″ square skillets to see if it does not work better for my purpose of cooking a lower volume of food. This pot was definitely a great improvement over my 3-1/2 cup rice cooker that only turned on and off, but had no thermostat. Happy eating.—-Updated COMMENT on the 6″ square skillet – I tried it to make French Toast. When I warmed up the 6″ square skillet and put in the bread, it cooked fine, but then lost heat quickly and would not come back up to temperature soon enough to heat the French toast quickly and sear it both sides. For that application an electric stovetop was much better, and I think a propane burner would work nicely also.
